Raise a Glass Ranch is going to be temporarily closed starting May 21st 2022, as we will be relocating to the east coast. We are wrapping up our current engagements and will not be taking on any new projects in California. We are happy to make recommendations to others in the area if you wish. Once we get settled at our new location we will resume operations.

Baby updates

28/07/2024

It seems I've been remiss in posting foal updates! So here's photos and videos of the nursery herd today!

Prince (Purebred Registered Clydesdale c**t) has returned from "Weaning Camp" in Aiken. He loaded and hauled the 3 hours home without a buddy or mom. Such a little champ!

Georgia (Purebred Registered Clydesdale Filly) has been claimed, and is just taking some more time to grow and gain independence, but will be moving to her new home in South Carolina when weaned.

Duchess (Purebred Registered American Cream Draft)is growing quickly! She's getting bolder and enjoys eating out of her own bucket at feeding time. She's shedding out a light golden color.

Polo (Clydesdale x Friesian/QH) is gregarious and spunky, but LOVES people and being scratched. He's the most naturally independent baby and has no trouble leaving mom to visit people or hang out with other horses.

Paul got a wild hair and decided to continue a project Wendy started a couple years ago.
Wendy had installed the insulation a while back to prepare for a winter trip deep into Canada, so this weekend we framed out the walls, ceiling, and windows to start installing bead board.
Put in a new floor and built a raised water tank stand.
Added a battery and inverter along with some new lighting.
Got a new bed and built a solid frame with some extra storage.
There’s still a ways to go, but the big white whale is used to being a work in progress.

Upgraded the pool today.
Put in a little more sand, filled with washed pea gravel. Hopefully deter cats from ‘using’ the sand, and it’ll keep the sand out of our toes. 👍

What a lovely day! Went out riding at Ocmulgee Bluffs with Melody and Jess this morning. Got in 9+ miles and rode some trails I don't recall riding before. Even got in Cali's first canter under saddle. Ended the ride by going to the swimming hole, where Cali showed she's a water horse! A few good swims and some long breaks just enjoying the cool clear water. All in her bitless bridle!

Then home and I had enough daylight to grab Lexie and head to Dauset Trail for another 4 miles horseback. No photos of that ride though. Left my phone in the truck. Still had enough energy back at the barn to clean up Lexie's trim.

All kinds of things getting done this memorial weekend…
Replacing the crappy MDF shelves in the shoe closet with red cedar from the tree we felled last year.
Finally installing a garbage disposal.
And rebuilding the command center in Paul’s office.

Day 332 and we have wax! She hasn't progressed to belly kicking or dripping milk or pacing. It may not be tonight but it will be soon. You can see how relaxed her muscles are.

Straw in her stall and tail tied up. Let's see how much she keeps us up tonight.

As predicted, leaving Paul alone this weekend on foal watch was effective in getting a mare to go into labor. This morning, as Wendy and Megan left Louisville. In broad daylight, after keeping Paul up all night.

And it's a Filly! A perfectly adorable bay filly that looks like she'll have lots of Clydesdale glitter like her mama! She's nursing, pooping and doing all the right baby things. But mom needed some extra help finishing things off, so both girls got to go see our wonderful vets at Piedmont Equine Associates. All is well though, and both are back home.

Please Raise A Glass...To Georgia!

Now where is Wendy going to go to get Lila to foal?!

We found another source to watch Wendy in today’s Derby Parade at 3pm Eastern (“Pegasus Parade”).

Random weekend update from the Ranch.
While Wendy is out preparing to ride in the Derby Parade today in Louisville Kentucky with the American Sidesaddle Association (it’s 3pm Eastern TODAY!!), Paul is holding down the fort catching up on random chores.

Mare Stare 2024.2 and 2024.3 are off to a slow start. Lila and Annie are keeping Paul up most nights triggering their Foal Alert system… (that’s Annie, right, and Lexie in the picture, Lila was being shy).
Got some tiki torches in for the outdoor swing, along with some neat underwater lighting for the pool.
5.5 hours of mowing and w**d eating.
Continuing to work on the ramp remodel, all the wood work is finally done, time for painting now.
Found Wendy a perfect day-trip size cooler.

In case anyone wants to watch Megan and Sampson and Liam and Me in tomorrow's parade : info From my mom Tricia Deini Davis: I found a streaming service called Very Local that is reported to be streaming the Derby Parade tomorrow! When they ask for your zip code, put in 41005 for Louisville. That came up Cincinnati, but when I clicked on change city, it came up Louisville and the one to select is WLKY, which is the station that is going to stream the parade.

The American Sidesaddle Association is entry number 14 in the parade. The first equestrian entry

It’s either a late update or an early update, we’ll go with early. Working on a small maintenance project at the Ranch, on the house of you can believe that… 🤣
The front porch ramp had plastic lattice that didn’t match the house and started to fall apart so we’re updating it. Just finished the new wood, still need to paint it, and we’re moving the lattice to the bottom to keep the armadillos out.

Can any of my Georgia friends recommend a towing company? Trying to help a stranded horse owner get her truck from Claremont Rd in Chamblee (Atlanta) to a shop to replace a wheel bearing.

A- Don’t tell Liam that Wendy’s cheating on him.
B- Could she really be learning a new skill??

She’s in the background chasing the lead horse.

Thank you Randy King for the experience today. We will be back 👍
