Guernsey Friends of Dog Rescue & Rehoming We are volunteers who assist selected dog rescue & rehoming groups that wish to rehome dogs in Guernsey; via fund raising, raising awareness and fostering.

Welcome to the Guernsey Friends of Dog Rescue and Rehoming, Guernsey Registered Charity CH539. Established in 2015, became a registered charity in 2016. We are a group of volunteers who fund raise for and facilitate the rehoming of rescue dogs in Guernsey, Channel Islands. We assist selected Dog Rescue and Rehoming Centres by raising awareness of dogs looking for their forever homes and fostering

those in need. All potential adopters for any rescue dog featured on this page will be required to undergo a home check assessment as required by the Rescue looking to find the dog it's forever home. Adoption fees / donations vary depending on the Rescue Centre involved, as do their terms and conditions for adopting. Most dogs will be of mixed breed origin, although some pure breeds may be available occasionally, please ask if there is a particular type of dog you would like to adopt - there are so many dogs needing loving forever homes. email: [email protected]

Today we are once again proud to be sponsoring a neutering campaign in Romania, our second this year with veterinary surgeon Luana Sabau and Fundatia Noroc - Help for Dogs and Cats from Constanta.

This is the only real long term way of helping the stray dog issue there, and we are so grateful we can help make a difference by enabling the real heroes to do their wonderful work. Last months campaign saw 70 dogs and cats neutered, of those we funded neutering of 40 dogs.

If you wish to donate to help us fund further campaigns then please do so via PayPal friends and family option using [email protected]

❗Attention all dog owners and walkers🐾

A reminder that dogs should not be walked during the hottest period of the day. Dogs are at greater risk of heat stroke when walked during the midday sun, especially those with brachycephalic (flat) faces, such as pugs, and ill/elderly animals.

We would suggest using mentally enriching games/treat toys at home instead and save the walks for early morning/late evening.

If dogs are exercised during the hottest period of the day, they must have continuous access to shade and water and be given the opportunity to stop and rest as and when they desire.

From today, seven beaches in Guernsey are dog-free until 30th September. Dogs are still welcome at all of the Island’s other beaches, excluding Lihou Island.

Please make sure your dog is always under control in public places and to pick up after your dog. For full details, visit www.gov.gg/dogsonbeaches

Have you paid your dog tax for 2024 yet? 🐾

Dog tax is payable annually at a rate of £10.00 per dog and must be renewed each January.

Tax is due for all dogs over the age of 6 months – the only exceptions being in respect of a dog kept solely by a deaf or disabled person for their hearing or guidance (e.g. guide dogs for the blind or hearing dogs for the deaf).

Please contact your parish constable to pay dog tax for each dog that you own. https://gov.gg/parishes

Dog owners failing to pay the tax could be liable to a fine.

Dogs must also wear a collar bearing on it/having a disc attached to it with the initial letters of the Christian name and surname of the owner, along with the distinguishing letter of the parish in which the owner resides.

Please share, thank you 🐾

Please help us keep our posties and your dogs safe!

It’s a natural instinct for dogs to become territorial when the doorbell rings, so please hold onto your pup when you answer the door - it’s an easy way to ensure everyone’s safety.

If you'd like to know more about how you can help please see our tips and tricks from dog behaviourist Anna Brehaut on our website here https://www.guernseypost.com/other-customer-information/dog-awarness

⭐️ BEN, ELLIE, And RUBY UPDATE ⭐️

They arrived at Dogs 4 Rescue about 2pm, having travelled well with The Pet Bus.

Em just sent us this wonderful photo of them settling in and says reports all good so far - it’s so good to see the three of them together looking relaxed and happy - however we suspect someone had just rustled a treat packet from their expressions 😆

If you’d like to donate towards the cost of their transport there and their supplies for the next few weeks we’d be extremely grateful. Donations can be made via PayPal friends and family option using [email protected] 😊

⭐️ BEN, ELLIE and RUBY UPDATE - FRIDAY 28th JULY ⭐️

After six months of trying to find these wonderful three dogs a match for their forever homes, it sadly seemed that it was never meant to be here on Guernsey.

Em and the team at Dogs 4 Rescue kindly once again offered for Ben and Ellie to go to them, and they also said they’d be prepared to take Ruby too. The three dogs have become firm friends whilst in foster with our founder Jan, and so it was an easy decision to keep these three together for now in the next chapter of their lives. The Pet Bus are kindly transporting them there for us overnight tonight and they will arrive there tomorrow lunchtime if all goes to plan.

With a change of location, a much larger local population of potential adopters and the huge following Dogs 4 Rescue have, we have everything crossed that it won’t be too long before these dogs steal someone’s hearts and have their forever homes. Naturally we will be keeping in close contact following their progress and will post updates when we have them. There is simply no other rescue we’d have trusted with our dogs and we know they will be loved and cared for whilst the search for their forever homes continues.

We thank everyone who has donated to give these dogs a better life, to everyone that has wished them well and enquired about possibly homing them. We have spoken to and met with some lovely people but sadly not found the match these dogs need. We have had such positive feedback from people along this journey and are truly grateful.

This has been a difficult decision for our team, especially for Jan who will miss these dogs hugely, but the dogs’ needs have to come before our own. Please may we ask for any comments to be kind and respectful.

If anyone would like to make a donation towards the costs of transporting them, and for their supplies for the next few weeks, we would be hugely grateful. Donations can be made via Paypal friends and family option to [email protected]
