How pet sitters feel at the tail end of holiday rush 🤪

You were never an easy dog to own. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I considered returning you to the shelter several times during our first few months together. I knew you had been returned once already and as if you knew what I was considering you started to show us your softer side. You shelved the psycho act for a while and became a snuggler and that was the point where we started to fall in love with you, it was then that I committed and decided, I GOT THIS.

Your body could not keep up with your thirst for adventure and love for perilous physical feats. Because of you I am now near expert level in dog physiology. Your chiropractor taught me many things, including how to use kinesiology tape on you when you would hurt yourself because you refused to accept senior limitations.

I learned aqua therapy to help soothe your sore joints resulting from your self imposed parkour lifestyle.

I learned how to manage epilepsy without the liver damaging drugs that conventional veterinarians prescribe. Our go with phenobarbital did not go well and your liver responded unfavorably. Big shout out and thank you to all the integrative veterinarians out there who showed me the ropes!!!

I learned that avoiding chicken in dog food and treats is a tall order, nearly impossible, but chicken made you sick, so I became a brand detective.

Your extreme neediness and anxiety inspired me to up my game so I pursued a career in professional pet sitting and later in service dog training. Dog behavior & psychology is now my jam.

Add all that to your chronic lung issues and one time heart murmur scare and I will say that there is almost nothing I wouldn’t have studied to help you live your best life!

On our last day together we visited the typically forbidden dog park, enjoyed a juicy steak, and then went for a rugged hike where for once I didn’t care if you scaled rocks and hurt yourself because this would be our very last hike together. You were so exhausted afterwards that you didn’t even have the energy to get amped up for your very last car ride and had nothing left energetically to be overly emotional and dramatic walking into your very last vet visit.

Girl, you kept me on my toes and I learned so much, now you rest, now I exhale.

We had so many beautiful adventures together. Rest in peace my sassy sweet hiking, camping, trail running, rock scaling, swimming, boating, rabbit chasing, risk craving, no limits bad girl. You loved when I called you that and always replied with your signature howl!
