Well I had a couple hours free between clients so I got to attend SUPERZOO after all!
Highlights for me were the grooming floor where I got to see some very cool dog dos… dreads, insane dye jobs and some SUUUPER fluffy dogs. Sorry pics weren’t allowed! 2nd highlight was seeing many gorgeous service dogs (lots of GSDs 💛) with their handlers.
I found the exhibitor floor energetically underwhelming. I suppose vendors are tired being day 3 of the convention. Burnout in the retail sector is real!
Saw a couple in attendance wearing fluffy bathrobes embroidered with “crazy cat lady”. That’s the spirit!

When I first met Elijah, I was told he was not social and would not come out during visits. Instructions were to scoop his box and plate his food, then I was free to go. Challenge accepted!
First visit-I found him on a closet shelf and enticed him with a feather wand so I could snap at least one pic for mom. Soon after, as I sat on the sofa uploading the petsit summary, he surprised me by joining me and we immediately became friends 😻🥰
That was 18 months ago, he is a vacation client so I haven’t seen him since those 2022 visits.
Forward to July 2024, I thought I'd have to reintroduce myself, assuming I would even be able to find him. But noooo! Elijah remembered me and came out to greet me the moment I called out to him and he stayed close to me during every visit. I had to slink out the door with serious agility and stealth because he even tried to leave with me!
Just one of the many encounters that make my chosen career path so very satisfying.
Moral of the story, I love cats and as Elijah will attest, they love me back!! I’m most certainly in the right line of work 💛🐾

A tribute to sweet Bella 💔 After an exhaustive and astronomically expensive intervention, cancer still took our sweet friend from us. It’s rare that I get to say goodbye, I’m so grateful that this time I did. Bella was in good spirits, weak but playful, and ever affectionate as always during our last few visits together. Rest in peace sweet angel 🐾 🌈

Gizmo was recently adopted into a household that already has a cat. Having been his “big sister’s” sitter for several years, I will say she is on the spicier side. Here are some tips for smoothly integrating a new kitty into the mix. Pro tip…don’t expect a fast transition. Slow & steady!!!
1. Slow Introductions
* Allow your cats to sniff and observe the new kitten through a closed door initially.
* Use a baby gate or a cracked door to facilitate visual introductions. Always with supervision.
2. Safe Spaces
* Ensure the kitten has a separate room or safe space to retreat to.
* Gradually increase the time the kitten spends in shared spaces.
3. Swap Scents
* Exchange bedding between your cats and the kitten to help them get used to each other’s scents.
* Use a soft cloth to rub down each cat and then let the others smell it.
4. Supervised Interaction
* Monitor all interactions closely in the beginning to prevent aggressive behavior.
* Keep sessions short and positive, gradually increasing the duration as they grow more comfortable.
5. Reward Positive Behavior
* Use treats and praise to reinforce good behavior from both the existing cats and the new kitten.
* Avoid punishing any aggressive behavior; instead, separate them and try again later.
