Looking Glass Animal Rescue A virtual award-winning 501c3 nonprofit animal welfare organization working towards the day when no

Looking Glass Animal Rescue (“LGAR”) is an award-winning nonprofit volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters, hoarding situations, puppy mills, animal fighting rings and more. While we welcome all animals in need, we specifically focus on animals that are often overlooked due to age, breed, special need or an illness or injury requiring immediat

e, often costly medical attention that shelters are unable to provide. Without a rescue outlet, these animals would otherwise be euthanized due to their issues. Hundreds of animals are euthanized every year due to overpopulation, irresponsibility and sadly, cost. This is particularly true with animals who suffer medical ailments, many of which are treatable yet they are often deemed “unadoptable” and withheld from public view. These animals in particular suffer the worst fate because they sit in pain and fear with no hope of ever being given a second chance at life. Because of this, we have developed a special focus within our rescue to save as many of these animals that we can. Veterinary expenses alone can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the severity of the condition which is often unknown at the time of pull. Yet, in spite of these costs, our mission for every animal we pull into our rescue is to provide the most advanced medical and pain management treatments possible in an effort to ensure the best possible outcomes for these previously neglected and broken animals. In addition to treating their acute medical needs, every dog rescued will be spayed/neutered, if they are not already, and vaccinated and microchipped as soon as possible in an effort to give them the best opportunity for a healthy, happy life. When people do decide to foster an animal or adopt from us, they should expect the animal will remain well and not pass disease to their resident pets. Lastly, for each animal that we place, we provide extensive education on how to transition the animal into their new life. Basics like crate training, housetraining, obedience training, and the best ways to introduce resident pets are integral for the success of the relationship. When necessary we will also engage professional trainers for those animals that need specific behavior modification in an effort to help our animals and their new family position themselves for success. Mental health is as important as physical health and we believe that every animal should be given the chance to lead a life free of fear and anxiety. Like psychologists, professional trainers are often the only ones equipped to transition an abused animal from the life that once "was" to the life that "could be". Our goal is to ensure that all of our animals become a cherished and welcomed member of their new family for the remainder of their lives. By working with a network of volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers and shelters LGAR is hoping to be able to rescue hundreds of animals every year. We also serve as a resource to our community by providing information on pet ownership, including resources for spay/neuter, positive behavior training, nutrition and veterinary care. We believe that no animal should be mistreated and are working towards the day when no companion animal is euthanized for lack of a home.

Happy weekend pack! We are desperate for FOSTER FAMILIES - can you help? We depend on our fosters to be the link between rescue and a forever home. A time for well deserving rescued dogs to settle into family life in a safe place, where having food and shelter is a given and the fear and loneliness of homelessness can subside. Our current fosters are stretched to their limits which means we can’t rescue others. However, we received a call about these 4 pups and we really want to help. One female, three males, approximately 7 months old, dumped at the home of a kind, older woman who simply has no place for them. We’d need to vet and alter them so we are looking at placing them in foster or loving forever homes by the end of May.

This could be a rewarding family project for the summer. Please consider helping out - we really need you!

Can’t foster? Please consider donating to their care if you can. We have already spayed the female to prevent any mishaps! Again, we really need your help. www.lgarinc.org

** Please share! Bonnie would love to find her forever home **

Another milestone we’d rather not be celebrating - Bonnie is now over a year and has been with her current foster for 9 months waiting for her chance at a forever home.

A note from her foster mom - Need a smart cookie of a girl to be part of your fam? Bonnie is one of my fav foster puppies in a long time: crate trained, house broken, medium energy and great in the house, walks great on leash, learns new tricks quickly and has many already installed, rides calmly in the car, LOVES to meet new dogs and is polite with new people! She's definitely got some Plott Hound characteristics: she loves her family and is super into them, but just polite with strangers. I find it a way better behavior than wanting to jump on everyone!!

She is still learning about the world but is exposed to more every day. She'd LOVE to go to a home with another dog or two (or three, or four!) because she's very into her pack....while also being totally capable of leaving them, don't worry! I have nothing but good things to say about her, and she has been a very easy dog to have in the house this winter because allllll she wants to do is cook in front of the pellet stove all day!

Available through Looking Glass Animal Rescue and fostered near Amherst, MA.

It’s so important to understand the harm puppy mills do. These dogs aren’t well bred by reputable breeders. They are mass produced at the expense of female dogs who never see the light of day and are dumped when they no longer produce. And the numbers of wasted dogs is staggering. Please consider adoption. Please know where your new puppy is coming from, who is his mother and father, are they safe?

BREAKING: Our new Horrible Hundred report is live. It exposes 100 known puppy mills that sell to pet stores, online and directly to the public. Top states in the report this year include MO, OH, IA, NY and PA, and they can supply puppies to all 50 states. https://www.humaneworld.org/en/issue/horrible-hundred

Good morning Pack! Happy National Pet Day!

The benefits of having a pet are well documented and many! Benefits such as increased emotional well-being, encouraging exercise, providing companionship, reducing stress, boosting social interactions with other people, and lowering blood pressure thereby reducing the risk of heart disease are some of the most noted and most valuable. However, my favorite is the opportunity to experience unconditional love while likely saving a life!

Help us turn our well deserving fostered dogs and cats into pets with forever homes and families to love so that next year they too can celebrate this special day!

Meet Chance, a beautiful 7-month-old Lab mix with a heart full of courage and a story that’ll tug at your soul. 🐾💔

For months, this sweet boy wandered alone, terrified of humans, surviving on scraps and kindness from a distance. One of our incredible senior fosters never gave up on him—leaving food and water daily, earning his trust after 120 long days. By a miracle, she finally brought him into the warmth of her home.

But Chance’s journey is far from easy. Covered in fleas and ticks, he tested positive for severe heartworm and, heartbreakingly, is now battling chronic kidney failure. Despite his pain, he’s finally learning to feel safe, even wagging his tail and playing with his foster family.

We’re fighting for him with daily kidney flushes, meds, and all the love we can give. His prognosis is tough, but Chance deserves every moment of happiness and dignity we can provide after a life of fear.

We need your help to cover his mounting vet bills. Every dollar brings Chance closer to another day of love and comfort. Please share his story and consider donating to give this brave boy a fighting chance. 🙏

Recently we celebrated a milestone with beautiful Aurora, but sadly not the one we hoped for at this point. Aurora has just turned a year old 🎉🎉 which is the good news. She survived what so many puppies born as strays don’t, their first year of life. But sadly, she is still looking for a home and a forever family after a year of waiting to be chosen. Aurora is well cared for, fully vetted and spayed. She is well behaved and will do great in any family environment Although well loved with her foster, it’s not the same as being home. Help us find a forever home for Aurora so her next milestone can be a “gotcha day” celebration.🎉🎉 www.lgarinc.org

Here we are again, we just couldn’t say no. Two more dogs we rescued—beautiful souls who deserve a chance—have been diagnosed with heartworm. But here’s the gut punch: our finances are already stretched thin, and now we’re facing up to $1,000 in treatment costs thanks to Murphy’s Law kicking us when we’re down. We need your help.

This isn’t just about money—it’s about life. Heartworm is a brutal disease, and without treatment, these dogs don’t stand a chance. The pictures here aren’t just of our two newest rescues—they include some of the existing dogs we’re currently treating, and this isn’t even all of them. Small nonprofits like us are fighting to survive in today’s world. So many rescues have shut their doors, overwhelmed by rising costs and fewer resources, leaving the rest of us to carry an even heavier load. We’re still here because we believe every wagging tail, every hopeful glance, matters. But we can’t do it alone.

We’re not asking for a fortune—just $5 from each of our followers. It’s not grandiose. You won’t even miss it. But for us, it’s a lifeline. For these dogs, it’s proof their lives are worth saving. Please, if you can, donate $5 today.

Together, we can show them they’re important again.

Thank you—for them, and for us.

I’m gonna try to share this again in the hopes that the Facebook algorithm reaches people that care. It’s hard not to be despondent when you see so many animals suffering and we can’t do anything about it. It’s easy to look past these faces and move onto the next thread, but we can’t. We get the personal request. We get the heart felt stories. We get the desperate pleadings. And we’re the ones that have to say no because we can’t even garner a five dollar donation, on a consistent basis, from half of our followers. It’s amazing to me how little it takes to make a huge impact and yet how easy it is to overlook and just simply “tag” and say prayers in the hopes that somebody else will do the work. Well, we do the work. But we won’t be able to continue doing it for much longer.

Happy Monday, Pack! This week we are asking you to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! Even if it’s not your time to adopt, you may know someone we don’t know! 🙏🏻

Like so many rescues right now, we have an amazing group of dogs looking for homes. Some really special ones, including young pups who need a family to grow up with, middle-aged pups who need a person to grow old with, and some who are just a bit more needy and are simply looking for a friend to open their heart and make them feel safe and loved. All those pictured here are described on our website. There’s only so many pictures we can post here, so please check the entire crew out while there.

Area friends!

Mia has been safely trapped after 11 days on the run!
This little pup had us so worried she was on Rte 2 ramp median heading towards Wethersfield. Sightings started coming in of her being seen last week running inside of the guard rail of the median. CTDGRV Karen together with Glastonbury Animal Control Alex set a trap for her. She finally showed up last night first time we had seen her on camera in almost 2 weeks. This afternoon she was finally trapped and safe! Thank you everyone who called in sightings, those of you who searched and shared her post and worried about her along with all of us. Special thanks to Glastonbury Animal Control Alex for always being there and ready to help these lost pups! Thank you ACO Dominic for closing and rebaiting trap, thanks to Glastonbury PD for watching for this poor scared pup on the highway, thanks to her owners and friend Debbie who searched, went door to door, set feeding stations and never giving up! Thank you CTDGRV Jen and friend Tessa for hanging posters and setting feeding stations. Seriously just Thank You all!
Welcome Home Mia!!

Update!
If you live in and around the Griswold st area of Glastonbury and have security cams please check your footage for this litlle scared pup. If you could also leave a little food out in view of your cams it would be appreciated. The hope is if she finds food she will stay in area long enough for capture. Update! We now know she is no longer dragging the leash!

Lost East Hartford/Glastonbury!
This pretty girl got frightened this morning and bolted dragging a leash. She is not from the area and is very timid. We ask for the safety of the dog if seen Do Not Chase or Call out to her. Please call her extremely worried owners number on flyer if seen.
