Student Mappy out with his owner during their follow-up lesson!

Mappys owner loves him and just wanted him to listen to her. Her goal was to be able to take him places and have him be polite and follow commands. Before training he'd pull on the leash and get distracted by everything around him.

A trainer can get your dog to look great when with them. But at the Canine Training Co., we believe real training success is when a dog looks great with their owner.

This was Mappy and his owners first time around this much chaos. They handled it beautifully!

Recent student Bean came to the Canine Training Co. to work on her fear of people.

She would fear bark, excessively, at people in the house and anyone she didn't know. Her owners reached out to us to help her feel more confident. They knew she was a sweet girl under all that uncertainty. They just didn't know how to help her.

New student Jack!

Jack had a rough start to life. He was adopted as a puppy and then abandoned on the streets of Durham. Fortunately he was microchipped and animal control got him back to his breeder. After being adopted by his new owner, they realized he had some serious fear aggression towards people and reactivity towards other dogs.

He is with us to help him learn to trust the world again.

Training tip, if your dog actually enjoys outfits, dressing them up is way more fun.

Getting your dog to like clothes:
1. Pick an easy option to get on and off. (Velcro vests usually work well)
2. Place it on your dog while offering treats.
3. Take it off your dog. Offer them more treats, or play with them.
4. Don't expect your dog to wear it for long. Slowly introduce them to wearing outfits for longer durations.

Tao is going to be a service dog for his owner. He is with us not only to learn great obedience, but to also make sure his introduction to the world leaves him feeling confident.

While the Canine Training Co. doesn't train service dogs (that should only be done by organizations that specialize in service dogs) we do help owners with making sure their potential service dog has the right foundation to be a successful.

Muffin is with us to learn a reliable come when called. She would ignore her owner and go on walkabouts if she got loose. She's also learning leash manners and confidence out in the world.

Small dogs often get overlooked when owners think about on and off-leash reliability. But little dogs enjoy off-leash romps, adventure walks and being out with their owners just as much as larger dogs.
