****We have another member in need of some behavioral ****
I need some advice concerning my 20 month old Black GSD Titan. Please keep in mind that he is intact (for no reason other than I haven’t had the opportunity to have him neutered yet).
I’ve worked with dogs all my life in different capacities, but never in a behavioral or training way (I’m in human law enforcement).
Titan is a great and lovable dog. Incredibly smart and high energy.
I recently went though a divorce and have moved in with my girlfriend and her 11 year old son.
I am slowly and cautiously introducing Titan into the household. We also have a female old lab mix who is altered.
Occasionally when my girlfriend’s son tries to interact with Titan, Titan acts very defensive and aggressive. Low growls, lip curling, etc. I reprimand him immediately, and he goes back to normal. It seems to be only when my GFs son interacts with Titan.
Do you suppose him being an intact male is the cause of this? What other factors might I be missing?
I am NOT the type to rehome a dog over a behavioral issue, but on the same token I cannot keep a dog who could be dangerous to anybody in my family.
Any advice or considerations you could share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
