As we look back on 2024, I’m reflecting month by month on all the incredible moments from my view as the director—sharing the ones I remembered to catch along the way. Starting with January, it was a whirlwind of rescue missions, adventures, and progress! From picking up a bunny in Moab to saving a puppy in Delta, it was a family affair—reminding us all to find joy in the journey. Alongside my kids, I made time for adventures and encouraged our staff to do the same, balancing the emotional weight of rescue work with the beauty and fun along the way.
We took big steps toward our mission of creating a happy, stress-free environment for pets and people. With donations, we transformed mealtime for our animals, introducing puzzle feeders, canned food, and treats—making every meal exciting! Our volunteer participation skyrocketed, helping us rehabilitate 14 dogs from a hoarding situation in Gateway and eight others who endured freezing conditions at a municipal shelter.
From giving a matted kitty a soothing spa treatment to Moose’s journey to find his perfect match, every effort was a step closer to better lives for these animals. Community support poured in, with hay donated for the entire year for our sanctuary animals, and Chow Down Fruita packed my SUV full of supplies after a successful donation drive. Kannah Creek’s Kannah Kares Fundraiser chose Happy Little Rescue as their January recipient, giving us a much-needed boost to kick off the year.
Speaking at the Christi Reece Group’s quarterly circle fund presentation and at Alpine Bank locations brought even more support, with several Alpine Bank employees stepping up as active volunteers. Our first adoption event at Whitewater Hill Vineyards was a highlight—dogs enjoying the vineyard views, supporters coming together, and funds raised through wine sales.

Tonight, as she was closing up, Pops (our sweet older Jack Russell Chihuahua mix) was crying for company. Stephanie didn’t hesitate—she scooped him up and took him home for the night to keep him happy and loved. 🐾❤️Stephanie heads to the front range tomorrow for Christmas, so Pops will need a buddy for the holidays. Sweet Senior Cookie Needs Your Help ❤️Our dear 16-year-old poodle, Cookie, is at the vet today. 😢 She came to us after a kind soul spotted her being given away on Craigslist. They updated her vaccines, treated her to a spa day, and brought her to us so we could find her the love and care she deserves.An amazing foster, who’s also a former adopter, stepped up to care for Cookie and has been doing a wonderful job. But over the past two days, Cookie’s health has been declining.She has a mouth full of infection, but she isn’t stable enough for anesthesia right now.
