This gorgeous young lady is Penny.. she has been doing some amazing work in the show ring world and has just won “again” with her young pup over the wknd!

When she wins she donates her winnings to Hungry Dogs of Tepuke - what an inspiration she is!

She has been doing training with me for a little while now and shows huge talent. Penny you are gorgeous and I appreciate you so much more than I can say in words.. the dogs are fureva grateful to you 🙏🏽🐾🩵

I am happy to be working with a candidate who is passionate about dog welfare and extremely passionate about representing her constituents in the best and most honest way possible.

I really believe Tauranga City Council 2024 Candidate Suzie Edmonds - Community1st will help us turn the Tauranga Dog Pound into the countries best run pound and become the standard for animal welfare across the country.

I heard a comment saying animal control is getting out of control…

I want to see Tauranga’s animal control be respected in the community for doing an amazing job and treating people with kindness and respect along with animals in their care… and voting for Suzie will ensure this happens.

Personally I think the reception area could have been done last but it is still good to see upgrades done to the Tauranga dog pound.

Imagine a world where rescue shelters were all empty, dog pounds were empty and the dogs needing homes were hard to find.

How did we let things get so out of control?

More so, how do we ease this problem?

Sounds harsh but the only solution I can think of is mandatory desexing and registrations to breed. It’s not a government problem but investing more into desexing could also really help this issue by making desexing more affordable… seems we can’t rely on human sensibility.

It feels like nothing is being done about this problem and everyone is just hoping things will magically get better by voicing concerns… but it won’t. People are aware about this tough situation but we still think that “it’s okay if I do it” when it comes to breeding for money.

It’s time governments started looking into this or more dogs will be forced to live on the streets or killed to make more space in pounds.

Remi has medial coronoid disease in both her elbows and urgently needs your help.

She is only two years old and her owners are trying to do everything possible to help her live a long and painless life.

It’s heartbreaking to see such a beautiful girl walk around in so much pain so if you are in a position to donate please do to help her.

She is booked in for surgery on the 29th May and unfortunately this is not covered by insurance. Her owners are not in a financial position to afford this but they refuse to give up on her.

One thing I find myself trying to work out is how dogs are capable of making us feel so emotional without actually saying a thing.

I watch Benji run around the park and I know he is so happy, but then I really think about the moment and it’s so silent.

Does anyone else think about this or am I overthinking? 😂

I also think this when Benji just stares with what I’m guessing is a big smile on his face for no reason.

We are so lucky that all those years ago wolves were domesticated into what they are now. It’s very disturbing that there are people among us that don’t have this appreciation and are happy to torture and neglect dogs of their own or of other peoples.

All dogs deserve to be respected and treated with kindness. I judge those for how they treat dogs or any animal in that matter.

Anyone that tortures a dog deserves severe punishment and not just a slap on the wrist… especially those in government organisations who we trust to care for dogs.

It is a shame that it is near impossible to bring any change or updates to the dog act

Since we lost Chopper I want to ensure nobody is going to go through the same horrible situation that we had to go through. I think about this all the time with my boy Benji and how easy it is for a corrupt council to take them off you.

Let’s not forget after the first case we were cleared by the judge of any wrong doing until a year later that same judge decided to back flip on his decision.

Throughout I showed how terrible the Tauranga Councils actions were and how badly the TCC dog pound is run.

I’m still preparing to fight for dogs rights but the first change that I want to see is the Tauranga Dog pound changing its reputation from being the worst run pound in New Zealand to the best run…

How will this happen?

I believe there are candidates running for Tauranga Council who will realise the importance to the community of dog welfare. Yes there is an obligation for safety but the council should also have an obligation to properly care for dogs too… not neglect them which is what has been happening.

Any candidate that will look into…

• Bringing in a competent dog trainer into the pound to ensure all dogs are walked and can learn basic commands. Even better, give the management role to someone with dog experience.

• Ensuring all dogs have a chance for mental stimulation daily

• Extending the visiting hours from two hours a day.

• Allow owners to visit their dogs who are awaiting trials (Currently banned).

• Removing ALL dogs when high pressure hosing the cages

I want to see the killing of dogs dropped drastically in Tauranga which is up there with the highest killing rate in the country.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful mums out there.

Thank you for everything you do throughout our lives. My Koro always told me the people you always have to look is your partner your mum and your nanas.

If you are lucky enough to have the family around today then my advice is make an effort to get a photo together. I can guarantee it will be something you cherish forever.

Charity update!!!!

Had a few people asking g about Chopper’s Legacy Charity. We are so so close to getting registered, just updating some pieces of information and then hopefully sometime very very soon this will all be complete. 😁

We want to ensure Chopper’s Legacy has one of the best reputations for a charity in the country so we would rather take our time now to get this all correct instead of rushing through and getting caught out in the future.

I can not wait until we are registered and can start helping the amazing rescue groups across the country get a little extra funding 🖤🤎🖤

Here’s some excellent information to know. But ensure you Always respect a dogs space and never force yourself onto them no matter how experienced you think you are with dogs.

Dogs do give out warning signs if they feel threatened. Be vigilant of these and respect the dog and you will not suffer the consequences.

Also know when a dog is over hyped or when they are feeling relaxed.

Wagging tail, means I’m happy and friendly?
No!
I wanted to share this chart to debunk this myth.
Tail up high, super tense, means uncertainty or asking for space.
Tail wagging in a ‘helicopter’ mode, means I’m relaxed and happy.
