My thoughts for the morning:
Study all parts of the horse, educate yourself and learn what each part is for, it's functions, what it should be in relation to the other parts and its correct length, lay and angle for the job your breed was developed. If you do not understand these laws of motion and form, if can not explain each aspect then you do not have even a basic working knowledge of conformation or its purpose.
Educate yourself on pedigrees and how genes are inherited, for how many generations they can have an impact, how to use pedigree to breed better (or worse) if you do not place great importance on this you are not an educated breeder.
Study your breeds breed type, do not start changing it to suit your likes or needs.
AND look with great detail and be hard on your own breeding stock, don't keep it because you paid a lot or if it's sub par, be honest with yourself. Know the strengths and weaknesses each horse possess and how they, their sire, dam and grandparents bred. Plan accordingly.
Lasty, ribbons do not mean you have a good example of a Gypsy Cob, they just mean the judge who may or may not (usually the latter in Australia) have the in depth knowledge of the breed liked your horse on the day.
