Cole has got stepping over the line under control today.
Dash is progressing really well with his float training and is almost ready to walk in on his own. With my new float all the young ones doing float training find the first step onto the ramp a real barrier...plans to change that soon..
Something else Cole has shown me to work on.
One day we are going to step over the line!
Dash. Didn't I show you last weekend I know how to do this? BORING!
Dash much more at ease today being tied. "Oh, thanks for the tip Cinders"
Well done Dash! Yesterday on Dash's first visit to the float, he was sure he didnt want to go any where near it. Today we have front feet on the ramp.
Feed Time Fun! I looked up and saw Darcy poke her head in the container, wiggle it more open with her neck and disappear inside.
After a 10 minute look at the float and a little snack, back for a second quick tie up. Already Dash is showing how quickly young horses learn.
First time learning to tie for Dash and first time with a bum rope. Its a stressful time for Dash who is newly weaned and now I am taking him out of the paddock away from his mates but as a horse that is something he has to learn to cope with too. Dash shows he has transferred what he learnt with leading over to tying.
Three days of weaning and the first shift away. Brandy now in with the mares but Dash still not too far away. They can still see each other and the mares will give Brandy something else to think about. Dash is doing really good.
Dash in the paddock showing how he can be caught, haltered, pick all 4 feet up and lead, despite the pressure of yearlings around him.
Dash with Mum, Brandy who is 15.3hh. I think Dash will get to that height too. Check out Dash's feet, he had his first turn with the farrier today too. It wasnt about picking his feet up it was the big, scary stranger, that Dash found too confronting up close. So we have nicely trimmed backs and long toed fronts...until next time!
Cole getting his first trim. This is huge for Cole, who is frightened of any stranger or anything new. Cole is a fantastic young colt but always gets overlooked as he won't allow strangers close. Today Cole got all four feet trimmed and stood well once we had been through the drama of allowing a stranger close enough to pick up his feet. So proud of this boy.
Anzac Star, and what a Star today for her first farrier trim. Star was happy to stand as long as it took.
Moving groups to drier paddocks. Khandy, Halo and Pride straight in but as at every opportunity Diego is off trying to convince Evony she needs to be with a real stud not the young boys! Don't make me come and get you!
We have had so much rain. Dash shows how far his hair..duck down..can keep the rain away from his skin. Dunstan Breed n Grow mixed in the silage today
Shifting the foals and yearlings tonight. I try to put up postings of the two foals so their new owners can see them doing their every day things
After a very wet night the kids are a bit excited to see their food arriving
Winter paddock shift. The foals learn very quickly to come to the ATV and follow. Brandy is a nice, quiet influence for the young ones.
Cole and Star are still new to wearing covers.
You can see a fun run around the paddock changed to a frightened run for Cole as more and more straps over his cover came undone..not good. I stopped the video and stopped the foals running before things got out of hand. Those back clips and straps come undone too easily
