Warning! Protect your Dogs! Whether naturally occurring, or man-made, it's reported to be very serious. The Veterinarian interviewed stated their clinic lost 3 young, healthy dogs in one day. Cases have been and are being reported on the West Coast, the East Coast, and the Mid-West.
So far, the canine outbreak mimics parvo. If the infection gets into the lungs as acute pneumonia, it rapidly worsens and often leads to severe illness or possibly death in as little as 24 to 36 hours.
* Veterinarians recommend avoiding dog parks, groomers, community water bowls, etc.
* Isolate dogs with a wet cough and lethargy.
* Immediately contact your veterinarian for an Urgent Emergency Wellness (Respiratory) Assessment.
* Reportedly bacterial in nature, the antibiotics doxycycline and chloramphenicol appear to be effective.
