Magdrl: the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc Like all humane groups, MAGDRL is in the unique position of helping both humans and pets. About MAGDRL:
The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. I. II. III.

In our case, the pets are Great Danes and mixed Dane dogs, and the people are those who have or want the companionship of the breed or, often, just dogs in general. (MAGDRL) was organized in 1979 to serve the seven states of the Mid-Atlantic region. The organization is a DC corporation and has a charitable tax-exemption under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. MAGDRL is staffed completely by

volunteers. MAGDRL helps people to:
•Determine the right breed of dog for their lifestyle.
•Find healthy and companionable Danes that fit their circumstances.
•Find loving replacement homes for Danes they can no longer keep.
•Become knowledgeable about the care and training of their Great Danes.
•Resolve their Danes physical/behavioral problem.
•Overcome the grief at the loss of their loved pet.
•Stretch their tax dollar by assuming the Dane burden from public shelters. MAGDRL helps Danes:
•By providing for the rescue and care of those who have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused by their previous owners.
•We spay/neuter and provide medical treatment as necessary to return the Dane back to good health.
•We also supply training/socialization to ensure their adaptability to new, good homes.
•We work to place rescue Danes to people who provide secure, loving, and healthy homes

This is the official Mid-Atlantic Rescue League's FB page. The information contained on this page is for informational purposes only. It does not represent the opinions or beliefs of any MAGDRL member or the Board of Directors. Nor does it reflect support by the membership or Board of Directors of MAGDRL. Please remember when responding to postings either for or against, you are doing so as an individual and not in any way representing the opinion of MAGDRL or its BOD. Basic Rules for MAGDRL Postings: By posting on our Facebook group page, users must agree to the following common-sense rules:
• No Impersonation – We don’t want members with offensive names (use your common sense). Minors use this site also. We also have zero tolerance for anyone who deliberately or maliciously posts something while pretending to be someone else. This will result in automatic and permanent banishment.
• No Spam/Advertising – The deliberate posting by members of pyramid schemes, chain letters, commercial advertisements, or anything illegal or illicit is not permitted. Of course, it should be noted that Facebook automatically lists some advertisements on pages. We have little control over this. Exception: Approved MAGDRL vendors may post as they are giving back to the organization.
• No Offensive Posts/Flaming – Personal or discriminatory attacks in the form of name calling/insults, harassment, defamation or other extreme or inappropriate comments are not acceptable. Remember that people from all walks of life may use this page. If members see any offensive posts, please do not respond to them. Instead, send a message to our administrators.
• No Modifying Posts or Group Page – Posts and/or the Group Page, must not be modified or deleted. This is to be handled by our administrators solely. If you have suggestions or want to report a post that needs modifying or deleting, please message our administrators.
• Respect Your Hosts –Enough said! We are volunteers too!
• No Stealing - We are a group of very photogenic people and Danes, as well as having some great photographers. We enjoy seeing photos on our page, however, if you did not take the photo, please do not “steal” one from the group page. Even if you are in the photo, this is disrespectful to the person who took the photograph as well as any other person that may be in the picture as well. If you would like a copy of the picture, please privately ask the photographer if you may have a copy of the picture. Do not post copyrighted photos. Exception: Photos posted may be included in MAGDRL’s Rescuer’s Record.
• No Postings by other Rescue Groups for adoptable pets. Please remember this page is for the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League. Other groups or people may “like” our page, but we do not promote or solicit other groups on the MAGDRL page. Some of these rescues are not legitimate rescues. If you are from another rescue and have a question, please privately message us through FB. Reporting Offenses and Accessing Penalties
Although we monitor our page closely, it’s still possible that members may notice a problem before we do. (Remember we all work regular jobs and can’t monitor 24/7.) If so, members are welcome to notify our administrators via private message. We will review the situation and if we find that an offense did take place, we will take appropriate action. This could range from a warning to banishment from the site. Naturally, we will attempt to work with the offender privately before taking any further action. Helpful Suggestions
The following, while not strict rules and certainly things that are open to interpretation, are suggested “best practices” for posting. Following these recommendations should make your Facebook experience more beneficial:
• Treat Each Other With Respect – We understand that some topics can become the center of heated debates. We also understand that not everyone gets along. Nevertheless, treat each other with respect. Avoid name calling and resorting to offensive posts such as those specified in our rules above. Simply agree to disagree and move on.
• Post about your Danes, pets, questions, and photos. Please do not post profanity or anything you wouldn’t want minors to see! This is an open page.
• Invite Your Friends to Like Our FB Page. Don’t forget to check out our www.magdrl.org page for more information about our organization. As you can see, the above Facebook rules and suggestions are based on good old-fashioned common sense. If something is wrong, don’t do it. Just remember to adhere to the adage “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Thank you!

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***
