Pet rabbits should be housed indoors. From parasites to Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus to prowling predators, outdoor housing is never safe. Housing your rabbit(s) indoors also enables people to get to know their personalities and integrate the bun(s) into their lives like cats and dogs. 🐰💜

Meet Walter White, the bunny who "hops bad" in all the right ways! He may not be a chemistry teacher, but he’s a master at cooking up trouble—of the cute variety. With his striking fur pattern, he’s the Heisenbunny of the rabbit world, always plotting his next adorable move. But don’t worry, there’s no breaking bad here; Walter’s as gentle as they come. He’s just looking for someone to share his empire of fluff.

And just like the real Walter had a partner in crime, this little guy is hoping to find a lady bun to be his accomplice in all things hopping and snuggling. Adopt him, and you’ll be the one who knocks...on the door to a lifetime of bunny cuddles!

Walter is estimated to be 2+ years old, he was adopted from Oregon Humane Society as a baby and found his way to Rabbit Advocates this fall. He is neutered and vaccinated for RHDV2. Walter is an active bun that needs space and bunny toys to keep him entertained. He can be a bit of a chewer so bunny proofing is advised.

Hop over to www.rabbitadvocates.org/adoption to meet Walter.

30/10/2024

Blaze had been hopping around a local neighborhood for a couple of months, but anytime he was approached, he would binky away blazing his own trail. He thought this was a super fun game to play and often taunted neighbors to approach him just so he could binky away. He still likes to play this game now that he is an indoor bun and will actually thump if you don’t chase after him so he can binky away.

He is an orange mini rex, which in rex rabbits is just called orange, but in Angora rabbits it's called rufus, and in cats it's called flame. We thought Blaze was a nice nod to his orange color and his playful personality.

Blaze is a pretty special little guy who plays hard and loves hard. He has a cleft lip. The vet is unsure whether it is congenital or the result of an injury. In any case, it has not slowed Blaze down one bit. He loves to eat and will stomp if you don’t bring him his dinner pellets fast enough. He has been a bit picky about his hay, but we have found that he loves 1st cutting and 3rd cutting Timothy Hay, cilantro, and parsley. He is very treat motivated, oats are his favorite followed by any fruit. He has the biggest brown eyes and most fabulous lashes and when he looks at you, it makes you want to give him all the treats.

Blaze is a hilarious, playful, and slightly mischievous bun. He is very, very smart and full of energy. He loves his dig mat, dig boxes, food puzzles, and applewood sticks. He also loves to chew on fabric and soft things like carpet. He does best on a non-slip mat and hardwood flooring. Blaze loves his daily runs and free time when he can be supervised on the carpet and around cords. He gets the craziest zoomies and loves when people play with him. He also likes to tuck in at his foster mom’s feet while she works and take his mid day nap. Blaze definitely likes to have space and is kept in a double x-pen enclosure when he cannot be supervised. This allows him to have enough space for his litter box, his tunnel, some fun boxes to hide in and chew on, and his food and water dish. This also gives him some room to run around and get his energy out. Blaze would not do well in a cage or a hutch.

Blaze is completely unphased by cats and dogs and actually likes to play with them through his pen. He has marked both of his foster cats and his foster dog and he now runs the house. Blaze has not been around little kids much, only teenagers. He still gets very nervous being held and is more of a sit next to bunny than a pick up and snuggle bunny. He does like it when his foster kids lay on the floor next to him. He has a great time playing on the human jungle gym and then will tuck in or flop on his side next to them when he is tired.

Blaze seems like he might like a bunny partner to play with and cuddle with. He has shown great interest in his foster cats and dogs and loves to snuggle next to the humans. He also gives huge sloppy kisses to the humans.

Are you thinking about getting a pet bunny but aren't 100% sure? Consider fostering first!

Fostering a bunny or pair is a great way to see if a bunny is a fit for your home, determine if allergies to bunnies or hay might be an issue, and learn more about house rabbits in a supportive community.

Rabbit Advocates often have more rescue inquiries than we do fosters, and we are always in need of more fosters! Foster providers offer a safe, nurturing home environment for rescued bunnies so the rabbits will be ready for adoption into loving forever homes and are essential to achieving the mission of Rabbit Advocates. Fostering saves lives 🐰💜

Sign-ups for the Oregon Fall RHDV2 Vaccination Clinic are now live!

The Oregon Fall RHDV2 Vax Clinic is coming up! This clinic offers both 2 doses vaccinations and a one-dose “boosters.” (Oregon bunnies who have previously completed a 2-dose Medgene protocol 9+ months ago are eligible for the booster.)

RHDV2 is a highly contagious, painful, fatal disease that is now endemic to Oregon. Since RHDV2 is no longer considered a “foreign disease,” public reporting of infections and State-assisted testing has dramatically decreased. Bunnies must be vaccinated yearly to be protected from the virus.

Appointments required for the vaccination clinic.

Meet Comet, the cosmic cutie who's ready to orbit your heart! With sleek fur and a twinkle in his eyes, this little guy is out of this world. Comet’s boundless energy will have him zooming through your living room like a shooting star, but don’t worry—he loves to land in your arms for some quiet stargazing (aka snuggles). He's a curious explorer of the bunny galaxy, discovering every nook and cranny of his universe. Ready to add a little stellar charm to your home? Adopt Comet, and watch your world light up!

Comet was born in RA care in Spring 2024 to Mama Aurora after being rescued by a good Samaritan. He is just 6 months old, he has been neutered and vaccinated for RHDV2. Comet is still growing but will likely weigh 6 to 7 lbs when fully grown.

Comet does well with other pets and respectful children and could be a good contender for bonding as well. He is still young and does need room for his bunny athletics. He enjoys having toys and sticks to play with as well as people to interact with.

So you want a rabbit! (Or maybe you know someone who does.) We don't blame you because rabbits are the best! However, it's best not to make any impulse decisions to purchase bunnies because contrary to popular belief, bunnies are not easy starter pets. Be sure to do thorough research before making a decision. Unfortunately, because bunnies aren't easy pets, they are often abandoned.

Consider adopting from a shelter. There are more than 200 rabbits living on the streets of the Greater Portland, Oregon area who need help, and most rescues spay/neuter the bunnies prior to adoption.

Have you heard about sweet Olaf? This little snowman may look like he’s from the frozen North, but he’s so warm, he’ll melt your heart. He’s still a little shy around people, but if you have food, you’ll have him eating out of your hand in no time. He takes food so gently, you would think he’d been hand-fed his whole life. But that isn’t his story.

This shy, gentle boy is looking for a forever home where he can be safe and loved and come out of his shell a little more. He was likely born in the Spring of 2022 and is fully-grown at about 5 lbs. Olaf is a sweet guy with a ton of character and sheer grit. He was roughed up from his time on the streets and is left with a “lucky” ear as a result. He is all healed up and his scars are part of what makes him unique. He still has mud-stained fur on the bottom of his paws, but once he goes through a big seasonal shed, he will be back to snowy white. No more hopping around in mud for this little snowman! Olaf might even have superpowers, too, because he can escape his enclosure. His foster family is convinced he can fly when they’re not looking.

Do you have the perfect home for Olaf? Grab your winter coat, gloves, scarf, and hat and head to the Rabbit Advocates website to learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application! https://rabbitadvocates.org/adoption

Rabbit Advocates is a non-profit that is comprised of 100% volunteers—from the foster and adoption team members to those who work the Spa Day to even those who respond to inquiries via email, the helpline, or social media. We wouldn't be able to do the work we do without the time and dedication of all our volunteers. That also means that 100% of the money donated goes directly toward the care of the rabbits we rescue. 💜
