It was a busy day at Swift Dog Training HQ today.
Ellena led the Sunday pack walk which was attended by a number of breeds ranging from a schnauzer, Doberman, GSD. Ellena always starts these walks talking about each breed and the importance of how you as an owner need to understand what your chosen breed of dog was bred to do in order to understand what they find most rewarding and then use this to get them engaged with you when out and about. Ellena gives an enlightening take on going for a walk with your dog. One that is so more rewarding for both dog and handler. Well done to Diane with sparky who did amazingly well considering sparky has been rather a handful. I’m glad Diane let us persuade her to come!
Then we had Nathan Laffy here all day. In the morning he took a group of six novice handlers and dogs who are keen to progress to entering some tests later in the season.
In the afternoon a more advanced group of 5 dogs and handlers did a walked up session in cover - working on many aspects of training. Above all, Nathan has the ability to see what needs to be worked on and has the experience and knowledge to help all levels of dog and handler progress.

I do love this dog. She has become my go to for the most difficult runners. This cock bird came down about 10 yards out from the hedge. It was well over 200 yards to where it landed and ran into the hedge. This cover is the next drive so I had to be pretty certain that she would hit the fall and take a line and stick with that wounded bird. And if she failed would recall immediately!! This is where a dog that simply sweeps with no distance or whistle control is never ever going to out do a dog like her. She can sweep and hunt for herself when needed but has the control too. The field was covered with dead game but I was never in doubt once sent where she was going. Such a clever wonderful little dog 🐶❤️👏⭐️

WET! Wet, windy and miserable. However having had everyone out for their exercise or training, they are all back inside with heaters on and dry bedding. A treat for everyone and a couple of hours downtime. A hot shower for me & change of clothes needed!!

Sent a young dog for this. Thought it was odd he didn’t pick as a simple retrieve. Sent Keepa. He didn’t pick. Only 24 hrs after returning from the championship and briar is our picking up. Sent briar and she seemed to take longer than she should so I walked over. There is a ditch in this hedge meaning this bird was approx 5-6 foot off the ground. Rubbish video but what you can just see is briar actually climbed the thorns to pick!!! Such a clever girl ❤️⭐️🐶
