Most of you know, I have recently been into hospital for surgery. It actually took twice as long as expected and the surgeons exact words were ‘you’ve been severely under diagnosed and put up with so much’. It makes a lot of sense as the last year or so I have struggled a lot. However, I am now back home with a zillion tablets and injections to take but I’m home! Thank you so much to everyone who’s taken the time to message, come see me, call etc. it really is appreciated.

For the next week or so, please can all clients email [email protected] and not me just until I’m a bit better. I don’t want to miss important bookings and cannot guarantee my reliability!

Lastly thank you to the amazing team who are keeping everything going whilst off. Please be patient and understand we will continue providing the best service we possible can.

Cannot wait to be out with you all in the spring for some training 🐶⭐️🥳❤️

Ellena x

19/01/2025

It was a busy day at Swift Dog Training HQ today.
Ellena led the Sunday pack walk which was attended by a number of breeds ranging from a schnauzer, Doberman, GSD. Ellena always starts these walks talking about each breed and the importance of how you as an owner need to understand what your chosen breed of dog was bred to do in order to understand what they find most rewarding and then use this to get them engaged with you when out and about. Ellena gives an enlightening take on going for a walk with your dog. One that is so more rewarding for both dog and handler. Well done to Diane with sparky who did amazingly well considering sparky has been rather a handful. I’m glad Diane let us persuade her to come!

Then we had Nathan Laffy here all day. In the morning he took a group of six novice handlers and dogs who are keen to progress to entering some tests later in the season.

In the afternoon a more advanced group of 5 dogs and handlers did a walked up session in cover - working on many aspects of training. Above all, Nathan has the ability to see what needs to be worked on and has the experience and knowledge to help all levels of dog and handler progress.
Thanks to Ellena and Nathan.
A great day of learning 🤩

Massive well done to everyone on the second (of many to come hopefully!!) of our new Passive Neutrality groups. We have many people mailing in with problems with reactive dogs so in response to this we have put together passive neutrality groups where your dog is able to train and engage with you in a controlled environment around other dogs and handlers. Today these dogs smashed it - doing structured play, impulse control and even remained extremely calm when James recalled his dog at speed through the centre of the group. We had a right mixed pack - Norfolk Terrier, Doberman, German Shepherd cross, Beagle cross, Labrador Retriever

These groups run on Fridays at 11.30. Bookings can be made via the online bookings form.

A few years ago, the lovely team at asked if I would collect and foster two black lab girls. Very little history was known but they were very withdrawn & stressed. I had them for a little while and in that time I realised how lovely they were. They were unbelievably lucky to be adopted by a very good friend
He has done such an amazing job with their training and today proved it. He brought them out on a shoot for their first time ever. Not a lead in sight, they walked to heel, hunted when asked, recalled every time and even picked their first bird. Ben could work them individually or together. I was so so impressed. These girls are just so lucky to be where they are. Their story could have been very different. Well done to the rescues like this who work tirelessly helping dogs. Especially those who understand a working breed deserves to work. Literally has made my day today.

‘Trialling is easy’ ‘dogs are robotic’ ‘dogs won’t hunt cover or have any natural game finding ability’.
Today River ran in the 3rd trial of his career. He’s had next to no training having spent just over a year with his BFF (my 9 year old nephew!). Even so today, he turned up at some of the best trialling ground I know of, consisting of unbelievably steep banks, running water, ditches and extremely tough cover. River smashed it to bits. He ran such a good trial & showed me just how good he is. We sadly didn’t quite make the awards, however the way he ran I came home very happy. It’s not all about the awards but it’s how your dog ran. It’s wonderful to get a award but If you come home 110% thrilled with the dog you have in the car, then the awards don’t matter. Tomorrow he’ll be back out picking up and fingers crossed we might get another run in January. What a good boy he is! ⭐️❤️🐶

These poor working dogs … Nala shivering a bit after 3 days hard work on the trot, she is (understandably) tired today. So she is under the blanket (somewhere!) being cuddled by her half sister; briar and we’ve lit the fire for her. To be fair she seems pretty content now!
