Fun-loving, charming, resilient rockstar Rocco dreams of his own forever home. Could it be yours? Rocco is a 12-pound Terrier/Chihuahua (best guess) mix, estimated to be between 1-2 years of age. A tiny giant with a personality and heart as large as his spirit. Pal's Place rescued this little dude and his sister, Roo, from a tragic and heartbreaking situation in their home state of Kentucky. The siblings are now in a loving and nurturing foster home on Chicago's north side, patiently waiting to find their forever homes. Rocoo and Roo have already experienced too much in their young lives, and these resilient pups deserve to see their happily-ever-afters. They were abandoned in a rural area of eastern Kentucky with another littermate and left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, the third littermate was hit and killed by a car within a day or two of being dumped. With the local animal control facility over capacity and closed to intake, they were left to roam the area they were left in. A kind and compassionate resident in the area made them a makeshift shelter and fed them, but they were not in any position to take them in themselves. Unfortunately, another not-so-kind resident in the area was not as welcoming and did not like Rocco and Roo hanging around. This person wanted them gone and set out rat poison, which both dogs ate. If that wasn't horrible and cruel enough, they also kicked little Rocco so hard in the face that he needed to have one of his eyes removed from the damage. Thankfully, the other residents were able to get the duo to a local animal hospital on time. After several days of hospitalization, both responded well to treatment and recovered fully. Despite the cruelty they have suffered at the hands of humans, they hold no grudges and are happy, playful, loving, and affectionate dogs who still crave human companionship.

Rocco has adjusted incredibly well after surgery and has not let his experience damper his cheerful disposition. This cutie radiates joy and is an enthusiastic lover of life. He's energetic, playful, and adventurous and will be a fantastic companion for an active family. Rocco is a goof and will do anything for a laugh, but he also has a softer side. At the end of the day, this guy loves nothing more than curling up close to his people for snuggles and loves to give gentle little licks to those he loves. Rocco is being fostered in a home with several other dogs of all sizes and gets along well with his canine housemates. While Rocco and Roo love each other and have been through a lot together, like actual siblings, they bicker with each other and demonstrate some sibling rivalry. We will not adopt them as a pair and think they will thrive in separate homes. Rocco is well-behaved in the house, crate trained, and does excellent with his housebreaking when taken out regularly. He is a darling little snugglebug who will make one lucky household very happy!

Rocco is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested (neg), and started on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. His adoption fee to the rescue is $375. Rocco is being fostered on Chicago's north side and can be visited by appointment only after an adoption application has been completed and approved. Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for any reason. Please do not submit an adoption application unless you are ready to meet and welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. For more information or to receive an application, email [email protected] or visit palsplacerescue.org. Adoption applications and correspondence from the rescue may end up in your spam or junk folder. If you are waiting for our reply, please check those folders regularly.

**ROO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** This precious, adorable, and sweet tiny face belongs to one of our newest rescues, Miss Roo. Roo is a 14-pound Terrier/Chihuahua (best guess) mix, estimated to be between 1-2 years of age. Pal's Place rescued this darling little lady and her brother, Rocco, from a tragic and heartbreaking situation in their home state of Kentucky. The siblings are now in a loving and nurturing foster home on Chicago's north side, patiently waiting to find their forever homes. Roo and Rocco have already experienced too much in their young lives, and these resilient pups deserve to find their happily-ever-afters. Gentle and tender Roo is a lap dog lover's dream! She loves to be held, cuddled, and loved on by her humans. She can be a little bashful when meeting new people but is easily put at ease by gentle pets, kind words, and maybe a yummy treat or two. She's quick to accept and trust; you have a loyal life companion once she does. While Roo is a very cuddly dog who lives for snuggles, she's still a young dog with some puppy energy and playfulness and would do well in a moderately active household. Her other interests include walks, toys, bones, food, sunbathing, and being close to her people. Roo is being fostered in a home with several other dogs of all sizes and gets along well with her canine housemates. While Roo and Rocco love each other and have been through a lot together, like actual siblings, they bicker with each other and demonstrate some sibling rivalry. Patches had his double eye enucleation and neuter surgery on Wednesday. Social, curious, cheerful, adaptable, resilient, and incredibly handsome are just a few words to describe one of our newest rescues, Patches. Patch is a very special senior pup searching for a family as exceptional as he is. He came to Pal's Place from an overwhelmed animal control facility in Kentucky. An animal control facility is scary for almost any dog, but can you imagine how much more so for a senior blind dog? It's no secret that we at Pal's Place have a soft spot for seniors and special needs dogs, especially blind ones. As soon as we saw Patch's sweet face, we committed to welcoming him into our foster program. Our distinguished gentleman's age estimate is 10+ years old, and he weighs just under fifty pounds. We do not know much about his past or how he ended up at the shelter to begin with, but we know his future is bright, and we are committed to finding him the perfect home to spend his golden years in. Patches is entirely blind, but he does not let his disability define him or slow him down one bit! His tail is in constant motion, and his sunny, upbeat, and joyful attitude is contagious. He truly is a delight to be around. Affectionate and friendly by nature, Patch wears his heart on his sleeve. Kisses are freely distributed to all, and despite weighing close to 50 pounds, he identifies as a lap dog and often insists on curling up for a nap on his foster mom's lap.
Patch learned his foster home's layout and mastered the stairs in less than two days. He now independently navigates all the stairs in the three-level home and has no trouble finding his way around all three floors. In unfamiliar environments with stairs, he has learned the word "Step". If he hears that word, he knows there are stairs or a step nearby and will proceed slowly and deliberately, with a bit of guidance from his humans, until he finds them. Patch needs a little patience and encouragement when introduced to new environments, but he's very inquisitive, always eager to learn and explore, and is a quick study! Once he is familiar with an environment, you'd never know he was blind. There is not much a sighted dog can do that a blind dog cannot, and most blind dogs do not need any additional or specialized care other than a bit of guidance in new environments.
Patch loves chewing on bones, cuddling with his canine foster siblings, walkies, and napping in the sun. He is housebroken and well-behaved in the home and is trustworthy with free run of the home when alone. He is generally quiet but can be vocal when he wants or needs something. He will alert you if he needs to go outside, and he will not let you forget a mealtime :) This easy-going, adaptable dude will do well in most environments and be a phenomenal companion for one lucky household.
Patches has painful glaucoma in both eyes, and to provide him with a comfortable and pain-free life, he is scheduled for a double eye enucleation (removal) at the time of his neuter on November 20th. He'll look a bit different than other dogs once his eyes are removed, but he will be pain-free, and that's what matters. Patches also need a dental cleaning and, unfortunately, has also tested positive for heartworm. Thankfully, he's in the early stages of the heartworm infection and symptom-free. He is expected to make a full recovery after treatment. Patch's dental and heartworm treatment will be scheduled once he's fully recovered from his neuter and eye surgery. Patch is available for adoption before his dental and heartworm treatment so he can begin adjusting to his forever home, provided his adopters agree to bring him back to a partner veterinary clinic of Pal's Place for his remaining medical. Pal's Place will cover the dental and heartworm treatment costs, so there is no additional expense to his adopters other than our standard adoption fee of $275 for senior dogs.

**LUCKY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!**Mr. Lucky Ducky is a charming, affectionate, lovable, distinguished senior gentleman looking for a loving home! This adorable little old man was found as a stray and found himself at Chicago Animal Care and Control. A chaotic, loud, scary animal control facility is not the most comfortable place for any dog, but shelter life is especially rough on the seniors. Senior dogs should spend their golden years in comfort, surrounded by love and care, not in a small, cold, stainless steel cage or concrete run. Thankfully, a Pal's Place foster home spotted Lucky and immediately stepped up and opened their home and heart to him so we could bring Lucky into our foster program. Lucky appears to be a Chihuahua/Min Pin mix and is estimated to be between 10-12 years of age. His photos are a bit deceiving and make him look a little larger than he is, but our precious, petite little fella weighs just under 10 pounds.
Lucky is a low-maintenance, easy-going dog who loves practically anyone he meets. He is a couch-cuddling champ with superior snuggle skills, a true lap dog! Lucky loves his food and snacks, going for short walks around the neighborhood, his warm, cozy sweaters, and the companionship of other dogs (but can be overwhelmed by very energetic young ones) and cats. What he loves most of all, though, is simply being with the humans he loves. Lucky is also well-behaved in the home and housebroken. His eyesight is not the best anymore, and he prefers to be carried up and down stairs, but overall, he's a hardy, healthy senior. He doesn't ask for much of his retirement home, just a warm, cozy bed and daily cuddles. What's not to love about this guy?! He's pretty much perfect in our eyes and will make one lucky household very happy. Lucky deserves a loving home that will love, spoil, and dote on him in his golden years. Could it be yours? He recently had a dental cleaning and senior bloodwork (all good!) and is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested (negative). Lucky's adoption fee is $275. He is being fostered in Lake Geneva, WI, and can be seen by appointment once an application has been submitted to the rescue. You can complete our adoption application online at palsplacerescue.org/adopt/ For more information, you can email [email protected] or reach out directly to their foster mom, Sandi, at (773) 991-4004

Sweet, sensitive, shy Penny seeks a quiet, loving, and patient retirement home; could it be yours? Miss Penny is estimated to be nearing eleven years of age and weighs in at 22 pounds. Her breed mix is unknown, and without a DNA test, we cannot say with certainty what breeds combined to create our beautiful girl, but we suspect Beagle and Jack Russell or other similar terriers in her family tree. This precious little lady was adopted from Pal's Place in June 2014 when she was about six months old. Ten years later, a now senior, mature Penny has been returned to Pal's Place and has again found herself searching for a family to spend her golden years with. Penny's previous adopters welcomed a new baby into their home several months ago, and Penny was having difficulty adjusting to the new, tiny human in the home. Penny was nervous and unsure around the infant. Her previous adopters felt she was living in a constant state of anxiety and stress and thought it best she be returned to the rescue for placement in a child-free home.
Penny has been in the care of a Pal's Place foster home for several weeks now and is adjusting to her new reality. After losing the only family she's ever known after a decade, she was very scared, confused, and depressed, understandably so, when she first arrived. Her wonderful, nurturing foster parent has given Penny lots of time, patience, space, and love to decompress and acclimate to her foster home. At first, Penny was not interested in interacting with her foster parent at all and would do all she could to avoid them. After a few weeks, she slowly started getting comfortable and would accept a few pets from her new caregiver. She's slowly getting braver and more relaxed. Penny now follows her foster around the house, sits on the couch with them, and offers up some tail wags and smiles when greeting them. She is food-motivated, so many yummy, small, high-value treats have helped Penny bond with new humans. She also loves a good game of fetch with one of her stuffies, and Miss P's foster parent incorporates several short play sessions into her day to help facilitate trust and bonding. She is still spooked by quick or sudden movements of her foster parent and still prefers a very slow, deliberate approach. Penny is and most likely will always be extremely shy and skittish with new people and will need guardians who will understand this aspect of her temperament. She is housebroken, crate trained, and quiet and well-behaved in the home. Penny is being fostered in a home with several other dogs and gets along well with her temporary canine siblings. We feel she may adjust more quickly to her forever home if another dog is in the home. Many shy, nervous, or timid dogs thrive in homes with other dogs as they will look to other pups for cues, comfort, confidence, and support. However, this is not a requirement for her adoption as she has lived for the past ten years as the only dog in the home.
Her ideal home is a quiet, adult-only environment with guardians willing and able to give her all the time, love, understanding, and patience she will need to adjust to a new home and new people. Guardians who will not expect her to be affectionate or lovey-dovey with them immediately and ones willing to put in the time and effort to earn her trust. While she may need some extra time and space to bond and trust, once she does, the love, affection, loyalty, playfulness, and companionship she'll return to you will be well worth the effort, and knowing you've helped heal her broken heart by offering her the retirement home she deserves will be incredibly rewarding for all. Penny is anxious for her happily ever after; please apply to meet her today!
Penny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with vaccines, taking monthly flea and heartworm prevention, and is a very healthy mature pooch! Her adoption fee to the rescue is $275. She is in a foster home on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted. **SCRAPPY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!** Scrappy is currently accepting applications for his forever home! Friendly, social, happy, and handsome, Scrappy is the total package! This guy was rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in Kentucky. He is now in a foster home in the Chicago suburb of Wheeling while he patiently waits for his forever family. His breed and past are unknown, but we suspect he's a combination of several breeds, a true super mutt! Border Collie, Shepherd, Retriever are all possible ancestors in his lineage. His exact age is also a mystery but he is estimated to be around 2 years old. Scrappy is the kind of dog we think will fit in most households easily and will make a great companion for a family looking for a dog that is still active, playful, and fun-loving but one that is past the young puppy shenanigans. An added bonus to his stellar personality is his size; just under 50 pounds, he's a medium-sized pooch, ideal for urban dwellings. He's got great house manners as well. Quiet, housebroken, crate-trained, not destructive or anxious when alone, walks nicely on leash, friendly with other dogs. What more could you possibly want in a dog?! Scrappy loves toys, going for long walks, and cuddling with his humans. He'll be a phenomenal, loyal companion for an active household. Scrappy was recently neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), and microchipped. With his clean bill of health, he's ready for his next chapter: a forever home of his own!

Meet Curly, a charming and cheerful little pup searching for a forever family. This adorable fella was born in the care of Pal's Place and has only known love and kindness since birth. Penny, Moe's mother (also available for adoption), was rescued from an over-capacity animal control facility in rural Kentucky. We did not know she was pregnant at the time of her rescue, but she surprised us with three precious and perfect little stowaways shortly after she arrived in Chicago! We sure are glad we rescued Penny when we did, an overcrowded, chaotic, stressful pound is no place for a mom with new puppies and we are so happy our sweet mama was able to raise her pups in the comfort of a safe, loving and nurturing foster home.
Curly's mother is a delightful, gentle, and loving 40-pound mixed breed, possibly with Husky and Chow in her family tree. The father of the puppies is unknown but Curly and his littermates appear to have some Shepherd and Great Pyrenees in their lineage. They are most likely a mix of several breeds, combining to create three exceptionally adorable pups. Moe and his littermates are 2.5 months old (7/1) and weigh 17-19 pounds. Given their current age and weights, we expect them to mature into very large dogs, with an estimated fully mature size of 90-110 pounds.
Curly and his brothers will make outstanding companions for active families with the time, energy, and patience to raise a young puppy. They get along well with other dogs and are working on their crate training and housebreaking in their foster home. Remember that puppies this age and size need potty breaks every 2-3 hours, with lots and lots of playtime, socialization, and mental and physical stimulation throughout the day. Please consider if you truly have time for a puppy before applying. Curly and his littermates are neutered, current with age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and started on flea and heartworm prevention. They are ready and anxious to meet their new families! The adoption fee to the rescue is $475
