So week 4 of our Albany Creek Reactive Class. I wanted them to see how far they have come already. Part of doing my job is recognizing at what point and when you can demonstrate or push the dogs further safely. I could see they were ready. The owners blown away as they hadn’t realized and also that confidence boost they are doing great.

We put the petition up in a previous post. In moreton we all know the vast number of attacks go unreported (my clients tell me they don’t report it) yet when you look at the statistics the volume of serious (not non serious attacks) are significant. I fail to see that the couple of homeless who are breaching the rules is driving an existential crises as it is being made out to appear.

So we just got sent a message about our new in house designed halter from a client complete with video. I think it says it all.

“Just wanted to say a HUGE thanks for fitting Maisy with a new halter yesterday! We took her out this morning for her first walk with it. My 10yo walked her the whole way! She walked calmly beside him and did not try to pull ahead of him or paw at the halter - not once! Amazing, thanks again!”

There is no doubt that some individuals are causing some problems but alcohol/drugs etc are for law enforcement agencies. We see on social media all the time people having to give up pets to find somewhere to live and everyone cried how can you do that. Well this is a good example of how a council for all kicks those who are down when they need help the most. Because some nimbies with $$$ are inconvenienced- try having the threat of losing your best friend and having nowhere to live. Council needs to step up and more than lip service and provide solid solutions. People in this region with compassion have long memories. Sounds like we are closing the borders to those who need it most - our own citizens with pets. The 2 amendments requested in this petition are both fair and equitable- consequences for rubbish behavior- but allowing those in need some leeway.
At any time any one of us could be in this situation- be it a mortgage or renting. If I had the time and money and backing like others I know - I would run as an independent to get rid of outdated entitlement. Just sit and think for a moment how you would feel in their boat. And then please share the petition and help get real change not lip service for those in need.
