The 2023 Great Dane weekend of specialties is in the books now! And, it was a great weekend! Thanks to all the club members who supported our specialties by volunteering to help with stewarding, set up, lunch, and much more; and thanks to everyone for supporting our auction, and to the exhibitors who supported our specialties with their entries. Congratulations to all the winners!

UPDATE on judges for our September Specialty Show. Dr. Tom Davis will be replacing Philip Gray as a judge for our afternoon specialty on Friday, September 8.
If you haven't already made plans to attend our specialties - Do it now! Four specialties and two all-breed shows Sept 8-10. Six opportunities for majors. Closing date is August 23!

Please join us for our Specialty Shows on September 8-10, 2023. There will be 4 Specialties, as well as 2 all-breed shows and obedience.

Location is The Varied Industries Bldg at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, Dea Moines.

We will be offering lunch on Friday (donations will be greatly accepted) and our after show dinner on Friday. Location TBD.

Happy 2023! It's a new year, and time to set your goals and schedules for the year. Be sure to mark September 8-10 for the Great Dane Club of Des Moines Specialty shows. We've added two concurrent specialties to the weekend. There will be four specialties and two all-breed shows. Six opportunities to make majors in one weekend!

In response to the tragic story of a woman in NW Iowa being killed by five of her Great Dane, our local WHO station reached for a comment. This is our club response: While our club members did not know the individual, we were very saddened to hear the story. Overall, Great Danes live up to their reputation of being a gentle giant but there can be exceptions. Temperament has a genetic link and we urge anyone considering adding any dog to their home to purchase from a responsible breeder or adopt through a responsible rescue group. Additionally, then enroll in a training class, to start off on the right foot. For Great Dane breeder referrals in Iowa, our club, the Great Dane Club of Des Moines, can assist.
