We get it—every shelter and rescue has its own way of doing things, and trying to figure it all out can feel like assembling IKEA furniture without the instructions. So, let’s break it down! 📝

For the majority of our pups, their journey to New England starts in Alabama. They hop on one of our monthly transports and, per Massachusetts law, must complete a 48-hour quarantine period before heading to their new homes. Now, here’s where things might get a little different from some other rescues:

🔍 Check the Bios: Each dog’s bio will tell you whether they’re arriving on an upcoming transport or already being fostered locally. Read carefully so you know what to expect!

➡️ Direct Adoption Model: For dogs traveling north, we can’t facilitate meet-and-greets before adoption day. Instead, we screen applicants ahead of time to ensure it’s a great match before the pup even arrives. This means less stress for the dog, fewer transitions, and a much smoother process for you! Once your pup is cleared from quarantine, you pick them up and start your happily-ever-after that very same day. 🎉

💸 Adoption Fees? No Surprises: We don’t tack on “transport fees” after the fact, even though we know some other rescues do. Our adoption fee includes transport, vetting, spay/neuter, and age-appropriate vaccinations, so what you see on our website is exactly what you’ll pay.

🏡 Foster-Based Perks: We know some adopters want to meet multiple dogs before making a decision, but since most of our pups are being transported north or are in actual homes across MA—not a shelter—we just can’t make that happen. However, this means we get to know our dogs really well—their quirks, their snuggle preferences, their favorite snacks, and what they’re like in a home setting, which is info you wouldn’t necessarily get if adopting from a shelter.

At 1.5 years old and just 42 lbs, Socks is still looking for a special family—one that understands that trust takes time, snacks are a love language, and patience is the ultimate superpower. She’s not going to rush into your arms like a puppy in a rom-com. Oh no, she’ll need a family that’s okay with a little “I’ll trust you when I’m good and ready” vibe. In return? You’ll get a girl who is SO worth it! 🫶

Socks needs a home with a playful dog sibling (or 2!) to show her the ropes, and plenty of room to romp and roll because this girl lives for a good play session. Fenced yard? Amazing! It’s Valentine’s Day, and while we should be celebrating love, we’re instead drowning our sorrows in a tub of ice cream because sweet, perfect, lovable Hershey is still single. Not a single adoption inquiry. No applications. Just total, soul-crushing radio silence. 💔

Hershey isn’t just a good boy—he’s THE goodest boy. He’s got a fan club bigger than your ex’s red flag collection: his foster family adores him. Our adoptions team sings his praises. The vet care team loves him. Even our volunteer photographer, who meets hundreds of dogs, said she’d take him home in a heartbeat if her resident pup was on board. But alas, this amazing dog remains single. 🥺

At 2 years old and 50 lbs, Hershey is the ultimate medium-sized, medium-energy love bug. He even has a quirky little old leg injury, so if you’re into the “imperfectly perfect” aesthetic, he’s serving main character energy. He’s the best road trip buddy, the ultimate co-pilot for your coffee runs, and a total pro at stealing hearts. Sadly, stealing a forever home? Still on his to-do list. 📋

The only thing Hershey doesn’t love? Cats. So, if you’ve got a feline CEO running your house, we regret to inform you that Hershey will not be applying for the role of their new canine sibling. But if you’ve got a bigger playful pup, older kids, and/or just an empty spot on your couch waiting to be filled, Hershey is ready to be your Valentine forever. 💙

His current foster fam is heading out on vacation soon, which means he’ll need somewhere to go. So, if you’re not ready for a full-blown commitment but are open to a “let’s see where this goes” situation, foster-to-adopt is an option. 😉

🚨 TRANSPORT HELP NEEDED! 🚨

Calling all local dog-loving drivers! We need 1-2 volunteers to help transport some adorable, adoptable pups TOMORROW, February 14 from Dartmouth to Hopkinton.

📍 Pickup: 2:30 PM in Dartmouth 🚗 Drive Time: About 1 hour north to Hopkinton 🏡 Destination: To meet up with their new foster families, where they’ll be safe and cozy until they find forever homes!

We’ll provide crates and blankets—you just bring the ride and some good tunes! 🎶

🎶 Guess who’s back, back again. Buck is back, tell your GSP-loving friends! 🎶

This scruffy boy is making a return to our rescue, and while it wasn’t in the original plan, we’re all about finding the right home for this big, goofy fella. After being adopted back in 2023, Buck and one of his canine housemates just haven’t been vibing lately, and for everyone’s happiness (especially Buck’s), it’s time for him to find a fresh start. 💙

At about 3 years old and 51 lbs, Buck is likely a German Wirehaired Pointer, which means he’s not a couch potato—he’s a full-on adventure buddy! If you love long hikes, endless games of fetch, and a dog who will absolutely outpace you on a morning run, Buck might just be your dream dog. He needs an active home with a fenced yard and no other pets, please and thank you. 🏠

Introducing Hazel’s Nut Litter – Now Accepting Foster-to-Adopt Applications! 📝

Acorn, Almond, Cashew, Coconut, Macadamia, Peanut, Pecan, Pignoli, Pistachio, and Walnut are wiggly, snuggly, nutty little lovebugs who are officially on the hunt for foster families who are interested in adopting their little wiggle worm once they’re a bit older. 💕

These pint-sized potato pups have been living living their best little lives with their mama Hazel in one of our local foster home, but now they’re ready to take on the world—one accidental p*e puddle at a time. 😉

Whether they’re tumbling around with their siblings, giving the best puppy kisses, or curling up for a cozy nap, these little nuts are pure perfection. 🫶

Here’s the deal: 🏠 They need homes where someone is around more often than not. Their bladders are smol! 🐾 They are not house-trained, leash-trained, or, well… trained in any way. 🤪 They have zero respect for personal space and will absolutely try to nap on your face. 🦴 If you have an adult dog, make sure they’re actually cool with puppies—most grown-ups don’t appreciate being used as a chew toy. 👦 Kids should be older and gentle—these little smooshballs are still in their “fragile” phase.

Roses are red, violets are blue, Petal’s the sweetest—she’s waiting for you! 💕

This 8-month-old, 33 lb beauty queen is even more stunning in real life—seriously, photos don’t do her justice! But she’s not just a pretty face—Petal has been perfecting her best-girl skills in her southern foster home, and now she’s en route to Massachusetts with one mission: to find a forever home. 🏠

Her southern foster says, 💬 “Petal is a young pup. She loves to play, and at this age she is eager to learn and she has plenty of room to grow and learn as you teach her. When she goes for walks she loves to jump around trying to get you to play. Petal loves to go for walks and hikes. But at the end of the day she just loves to be near the ones that she loves, whether it’s laying on the couch next to you while you watch TV or read a book or laying beside your feet. She uses your feet as a pillow and as long as she is near the one that she loves she is happy. ✨ Volunteer Appreciation Post! ✨

We could not do what we do without the kindness, dedication, and expertise of our incredible volunteers! Today, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to Laura from All Dogs Are Good Dogs—a phenomenal positive reinforcement trainer who has been generously donating her time to help our locally-fostered pups get some more training skills under their belts while they wait to find forever families. 🫶

Most recently, Laura has been working with adoptable Mikey’s foster family, helping them navigate some resource guarding training and fine-tune his leash-walking skills. With her expert guidance (and plenty of treats!), Mikey is making amazing progress. 💪

At BDC, we firmly believe in the power of positive reinforcement training—so much so that we require it in all of our adoption contracts! Every dog, no matter their age, breed, or history, can learn through kindness, patience, and science-backed methods. Trainers like Laura make all the difference in setting our adoptables up for success. 👏

PS: Mikey is still on the lookout for his forever home! He’d thrive as a solo pup but would love a family with older, dog-savvy kids. Okay, what gives?! 🤨 Duncan has been searching HIGH and LOW for a family, and we are baffled—yes, BAFFLED—why he keeps getting overlooked. Like, do y’all not see this catch of a canine?!

Let’s run this down one more time:
✔️ 1 year old, medium-energy dreamboat who lives for sniffy walks and couch snuggles
✔️ Built-in weighted blanket—just imagine how much money you’ll save on heat when you have this guy to keep you warm!
✔️ A perfect 45 lbs unless you cave to his elite puppy-dog eyes and start handing out snacks like a vending machine…which, tbh, we get
✔️ Total lovebuy—prefers to be the only dog so he can soak up all the attention,
✔️ Would do well with older dog-savvy kiddos and will happily accept their undivided adoration

His fan club in Massachusetts is growing daily, and we don’t know how much longer we can hold back from keeping him ourselves. So, someone better adopt him ASAP before we start drawing straws to see who gets to call him ours! 😉

We can barely contain our excitement because our latest transport is officially ON THE ROAD. 🚐 And that means this Friday is going to be an EXTRA special day for the 15 lucky pups rolling into Massachusetts later this week!

Sweet, adoptable Shira was all set to meet her new family—she had her bags packed, her tail wagging, and her heart wide open…only to get stood up before they even met her. We get it—things happen. Junior, a certified 10/10, traveled all the way to Massachusetts with one simple goal: get adopted. And yet…here we are. Wondering why the applications aren’t rolling in for this Good Boy! 🤔

Is it because he’s house-trained? Crate-trained? A+ leash skills? Loves his humans? We don’t know what more Junior could possibly do to get some much needed attention—grow opposable thumbs? Blaze is officially packing his bags (okay, fine—we’re packing them for him 😉) and getting ready to say goodbye to his southern foster as he embarks on his grand adventure to Massachusetts! 🚐

This snow-loving boy had an absolute blast during Alabama’s surprise snowfall a few weeks ago, and he is going to LOSE HIS MIND when he finds out that in New England, snow is a regular thing! ❄️

At about a year old and 60 lbs of pure perfection, Blaze is currently living with several playful pups and dog-savvy kitties, and he’s been a total gentleman with them all. 🫶 If there are tiny humans in his forever home, we’d recommend ages 8+ because, well, Blaze is a big, goofy dude who doesn’t quite grasp that his zoomies might send a toddler airborne. 🤪 He’s doing excellent with house training, doesn’t mind hanging out in his crate when needed, and lives for playtime in the yard with his foster siblings.

His one tiny request? A fenced yard, please! Leashed walks? Blaze has heard the rumors that they’re fun but remains unconvinced. For now, he’d love a home with a fenced yard so he can practice his leash skills in a safe space before venturing onto the trails. Oh, and if you’ve got treats? We’ve been keeping the teeniest, tiniest secret…and we can’t hold it in any longer! 🤩 A litter of small-breed puppies and their sweet mama, Sweetie Pie, have been growing up in a loving foster home, and they’re FINALLY ready to start their search for forever families! These 4 adorable cutie pies—and their mama!—will each be ready to go to an individual home on Sunday, September 1st! 🐾 4 year old Sweetie Pie is all of 11 lbs and while we don’t know who the dad was, these 8-week-old pups are only clocking in at 3-4 lbs a piece which means we can make some educated guesses that they are going to stay on the smaller side once fully grown. Just like their mama! 🧡 Each of their future families should remember that puppy training classes with a certified positive reinforcement trainer are a MUST for these little ones—and mama could use some ongoing training support too. 💪 Let’s make sure these pups grow up to be the best versions of themselves! Look at our girl Julia! 🤩 This sweet 10 month old, 25 lb. adoptable pup recently learned how to swim in her foster’s pool and we can’t stop watching this video on repeat. She’s already a pro!
