MinnieDog

MinnieDog MinnieDog takes in senior dogs (& cats) & fosters dogs who need time & TLC. Minnie is the inspiration for MinnieDog.

She is a mellow, sweet mutt mix, abandoned by her family when she was 9 years old. She's now 14 and loves life in Western Massachusetts. On her daily walks, she meets & greets everyone and lets them know adopted seniors are the best. 😍

Please don't use fake cobwebs to create a spooky atmosphere this Halloween. They are the stuff of nightmares for small birds, bats, butterflies and bees who can become entangled in them and can die as a result.

Working on getting to know a new to MinnieDog old gal as she comes out of hiding 🥰 Maybe sound off - voice irritates humans, but attracts shy rescues 😍

BellaCat came to MinnieDog about a year and a half ago after her "mom" Diane died. Diane had a special spot for older, crankier cats as does MinnieDog. BellaCat became known as The Princess - she was regal and surveyed her kingdom from the guest bed. She knew what she wanted (food) and what she didn't (no touching unless you received the nod).

She received the best of care from Lauralyn Brown, DVM Veterinary Hospital and forgave them for touching her while shaving her mats. Diane took her there regularly for thyroid checks and grooming and MinnieDog made sure to continue that. BellaCat had a spectacular visit there a month ago and we were all marveling at how well the 17-year-old ruler was doing. Over the last week though, her thyroid condition caught up with her and she stopped eating, giving a silent meow no to each serving of food, no matter how tempting.

However many dogs and kitties MinnieDog assists in crossing over, it is never easy. Today, the Princess took pity and decided to get in her crate all by herself before the ride to the vet. She was quite comfortable hanging out, letting all her subjects adore and attend to her. A very peaceful passing, made easier knowing her mom Diane was waiting for her. Rest easy, Princess. You are loved.

What you do when you have pent-up energy from being inside during a scary storm and multiple zoomies around the back yard were not enough 😍🥰😂 ( Dora from Next Stop Forever Inc. with her friends Nellie and Boydie )

An unlikely pair -- Maggie (the Big Gal) and Scooter (the little sq**rt) -- but they both get more time with me by hanging out together. 😍

More adorable Dora, especially for those who like zoomies! 😍 She is not running back to the safety of the garage as often and is now initiating play and chasing Peanut and Boydie. It's clear she is enjoying the fun of running and most importantly, not worrying. More exercise, less worrying. Small steps, huge progress! 🥰

Mimi is looking for her forever home. Her mom fell ill and could no longer care for her which prompted her admission into rescue. She is 9 years young, has lived with dogs, enjoys food and laps which she can lay her head in. Mimi is a chi mix, spayed, up to date with all medical and microchipped.
Please consider giving this poor girl a home again. Click the link to apply for Mimi: https://form.jotform.com/210196630119046

So, this quartet is a good example of shy, unsocialized dogs who came to MinnieDog --

🐾Dora (dark brown & white) has been here for a few months
🐾Boydie (tan & white) from NC has been here for >1 year
🐾Peanut (copper) came from a hoarding case in NC 4 years ago
🐾Nellie (black & white) came from San Bernardino, CA 12 years ago

All of them were afraid of doorways, noises, touch, and eye contact but were very comfortable with other dogs. MinnieDog provides a lot of structure & routine but unsocialized dogs learn best from other dogs 🥰

Dora is available for adoption from Next Stop Forever Inc. She's still working on noises and touch, but has learned to "give kisses" which is licking the hand before getting a treat.

A few months ago, Dora from Next Stop Forever was so shy she didn't want to come out of her crate and wouldn't take treats from your hand. So, we take great enjoyment in this new quirky talent of her's! In rescue, you take your giggles when you can 🥰😍❤️🥳 Enjoy!

We are hoping for better pictures soon. This is Penny from Poros. People always tell us that someday your going to open your home to a senior. Believe us when we tell you, Penny is your girl. Penny currently lives outside year round with other dogs and cats. She is a beautiful, friendly, senior who deserves a home to live out her final years on a soft bed perhaps in front of the fireplace. We offer a reduced adoption fee for our older pups and are committed to making sure we can help support these dogs for any vetranarian care needs that may arise. MinnieDog’s Story

My name is Minnie. I like to help dogs who need a home because I know what it feels like to be abandoned and scared. In 2017, my family moved and left me with animal control in NYC. I was a terrified 9-year-old with a cataract and typical lumps & bumps and that was enough to land me on the At-Risk List instead of in Adoptions.

I could have been euthanized if no one rescued me.

Euthanasia occurs in many crowded facilities in the United States. We don’t think of it here in Western Massachusetts because spay/neuter is common and encouraged. When my mom saw my video from the volunteers, she knew I was a good girl who was frightened and overwhelmed. And black dogs & senior dogs are typically overlooked.

So, my mom fostered me and then, she adopted me. We live with several senior dogs (and cats). We all get lots of exercise and 1on1 time. And love. Lots of love.
