Teaching a dog the "wait" command can be a valuable skill that helps keep them safe and well-behaved. The command is a universal signal that tells a dog to stop moving forward and look to their handler for further instructions. It can be used in many situations to create a temporary pause before something happens, such as when opening a door, putting down food, or jumping out of a car.

Positive reinforcement
Reward your dog for good behavior, like listening and following directions, instead of punishing bad behavior. You can use small treats as rewards.

Don't complain about things you're not willing to change.

Just received this text from the rescue , I worked with a couple that was having some issues with their foster dog

Just got this text from April ☺️👍🏼. Thank you!!!!
Okay! Well Theresa is a wizard and Milo is a different dog. He still has puppy energy, but no/limited barking. Yay! And weve been acclimating with other people and dogs. YES! I feel so much better about adopting him out. He is SO trainable! All is good here. I really thought wed be driving him to the vet today. But we're happy with him here for now.

Followed by this just now
Really surprised at how one short session turned everything around!

Although many individuals have the financial means to purchase a dog, they may not possess the necessary knowledge or resources to train them. This can lead to a mismatch between the dog's breed and the owner's needs.

Many dogs are naturally afraid of vacuums, just like they may be afraid of thunderstorms. The machine makes a high-frequency noise that can hurt your dog's ears or cause significant distress. Keep in mind that dogs can hear at much higher pitches than the average human ear, which can increase that fear.

My poor girl hasn’t been feeling well, but she is no longer vomiting thank goodness, I have to say though, she was great for everything I had to do to her such as X-rays only needed one person to take them because she held still and was perfect for her blood draw. For those people that think your dog will be mad at you when you have to do unpleasant necessary things , well I feel my dog is actually pouring more love towards me because of the things I had to do. Trust is an amazing thing and it doesn’t come from over indulging and spoiling these dogs.

Some dogs are more prone to heat related illness. It may seem obvious that long haired breeds are more susceptible but did you know that breeds with flat faces are also at high risk? Some examples of these breeds are: Bull dogs, Pugs, Pekingese, Boston Terriers. The facial structure of these dogs inhibits their ability to pant effectively; therefore, they are incapable of taking in as much air as other breeds. Consequently, these breeds should never be allowed to overheat.

If your dog’s temperature is 105 degrees or more, take immediate action. ALWAYS COOL THE DOG OFF AT HOME BEFORE TRAVELING TO THE VET’S OFFICE.

Use tap water (luke warm, not hot or ice cold) to douse the dog. Water that is too cold constricts blood vessels and decreases the vessels ability to effectively transport sufficient amounts of blood back to the body; therefore taking longer to cool the dog off.
While dousing the dog with water, set a fan to blow on the dog.
Move the dog to shade or A/C.
DO NOT make the dog drink water. Your dog may be too focused on breathing to drink. Allow him to drink when he is ready.
Continue all cool down attempts until the panting stops. Stop cooling once the dog’s temperature gets to 103; cooling any further could lead to hypothermia.
Take your dog to the vet once he is cooled and at a temperature of 103.
Once a dog is cooled down, a Veterinarian will not be able to immediately gauge how much damage was done. This is why it is so critical that dog owners take the dog’s temperature at home; this equips the Veterinarian with the information necessary to help save the dog’s life.
