Simon Barere at home with his cat. They are both having a good time with music and the work inspired by the flight of fancy. He had an unjust reputation of speed for the sake of it. However, he was also profoundly a musical and sensitive man in love with the piano. He died at the height of happiness during his performance on the stage with the orchestra and Ormandy conducting in their first performance together.

Althea Crane, at the young age of 97 in conversation about her life and family, her dearest departed husband Irving and his 12 world championships, induction into the Hall of Fame and their wonderful German Shepherd when they lived on a farm in Livonia, NY. A friend to the last, a warm, hospitable, wise woman. She was a teacher and will be remembered with love by her very large family in their own lives and families through life.

I will always remember our many conversations, the tea, her quiet courage and grief, our conversations over the phone and the prayers she spoke about - for all that were in her heart.

Rest in Peace my friend. Thank you for your kindness and your insightful vision that transcended that of your eyes.

Claudette Sorel was one of my more outspoken champions and yet sadly it was only towards the end of her wonderful life that we met through one of my performances she attended in NYC. On this day, I remember her voice, her words and her passion to preserve what is left of great music in our quickly fossilizing world.

She was a force of nature, a strong woman and a wonderful musician that would not be bowed by the petty system or personal injury, nor in the end, by cancer itself.

There is a moment during the master class of Liszt when he is lost in thought as he sees a dove on the sill of the window while someone plays for him. This moment was preserved in history through a diary of one of his students. He writes that the Maestro raised his hand silently to point at the bird who came in to listen to the music. A perfect and an eternal moment, it was also a lesson in the sanctity of beauty.
