🦃🍁This morning, just like every morning, animal welfare workers and volunteers woke up, cared for their own beloved companions, and then headed out into the day.

Where were they going?

They were going to do what they do *every single day*: care for the ones in need.

The ones without families *yet.*

The ones still waiting for their turn to be loved unconditionally.

These remarkable people show up knowing that while they may not be able to change the world for *every* animal, they absolutely change the world for *so many* of them.

No animal welfare organization can do what it does without volunteers.

And no volunteer can do what *they* do without the strength and generosity of a supportive community.

So today, on Thanksgiving, we offer our deepest gratitude:

💙 To the volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts.
💙 To the community whose support makes this work possible.
💙 And most importantly, to the animals, who teach us patience, resilience, love, and how to be better humans every single day.

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for making a difference. One life at a time.🧡

This past Sunday felt nothing short of magical 🐾✨️

Athens County Humane Society and Friends of the Shelter Dogs came together with one shared purpose: to support our neighbors and their pets. What happened next was a beautiful reminder of what community truly means.

Thanks to the incredible teamwork and generosity around us, we were able to distribute 117 bags of pet food and 50 bales of straw to families who needed a little extra help. The hustle was real, but so was the heart. Volunteers showed up with energy, kindness, and unwavering commitment, and we are endlessly grateful for each and every one of them. To the donors who made these resources possible, and to Friendly Paws Pet Supplies & Grooming for helping us get quality food into local homes, thank you. You made this magic possible.

As the day wrapped up, 22 more families arrived seeking support after supplies had run out. And we’re determined to make that right... because that’s what community does.

To provide food and straw for those 22 remaining families, we need $600.

📣STRAW/FOOD GIVEAWAY THIS SUNDAY📣

Where: 64 Connett road in The Plains
When: Sunday 11/23 from 12-3p

🌾 Best Bedding for Outdoor Animals? Straw!
It keeps animals warm, dry, and comfortable because it insulates well and doesn’t soak up moisture like hay.

❌ Avoid:
• Hay (gets wet + moldy)
• Blankets/towels (freeze when damp)

How often to replace straw:
Every 1–2 weeks, plus add fresh straw anytime it looks flat, damp, or dirty.
In cold/wet weather, refresh weekly for maximum warmth.

A thick layer of clean straw can make all the difference for outdoor animals! 🐾💛🌾

COURTESY POST - NOT WITH ACHS: Queso, Simba, Tuck, and Little were found a few weeks ago at a local gas station in a small crate.

Queso, Simba, and Tuck are males and Little is the only female. These kittens are roughly 8 weeks old. They have been kept inside and are litter box trained. They are all super playful but yet also super snuggly. They are so sweet and love playing with toys and each other. And after they get all tuckered out they will climb up and snuggle on your chest. They get along with my 3 adult cats just fine. Queso and Simba are the larger of the 4 and Little girl is definitely the smallest. I am not capable of keeping all 4 long term. Please help. Meet Alfredo, Reggiano, Macaroni, and Stormy! These kittens are almost 13 weeks old. They absolutely love to cuddle and play with people and each other. All are males except for the all-gray one. They are kept indoors and are litter box trained. If you are interested in adopting, call 614-716-8152
