Today was a special day at the Humane Society!

One of our star students from Ohio University had the incredible opportunity to assist Dr. Aanestad with a very special procedure.

A few weeks ago, a sweet kitten named Gabby came into our care after suffering fractures in all three major bones of one of her legs. Her body had tried to heal on its own, but the fractures were badly displaced, and without intervention her long-term health and comfort would have been at risk.

Today, Gabby underwent a leg amputation to relieve her pain and give her the best chance at a happy, active life. She’s now resting comfortably in recovery, and we’re so thrilled that this procedure will allow her to live without discomfort.

Working alongside dedicated, up-and-coming veterinary professionals is always such a rewarding experience, and we’re so grateful to help provide these learning opportunities.

Less than two weeks until our straw and pet food give away!

Meet Dusk and Raven 🐾

They might look like your average playful kittens, but these two are tiny superheroes.

When Dusk and Raven first came to us, they were extremely sick, emaciated, refusing to eat, and fighting for their lives. Found on campus and in desperate need of care, they were rushed to the vet, where we learned they had tested positive for panleukopenia, a disease with only a 10-50% survival rate in kittens under six months old.

The odds were not in their favor.

But thanks to the tireless efforts of our incredible volunteers and medical team, these two fighters pulled through. Today, they’re thriving, playful, curious, and full of life. 💪🐱

This is why vaccination is so important, the vaccine for panleukopenia is extraordinarily effective and can prevent so much suffering.

Dusk and Raven aren’t quite ready for adoption yet, but they will be soon. When they are, they’ll be ready to bring their heroic hearts to a forever home. ❤️

This majestic guy has recently joined a managed feral colony, where he has undergone neutering courtesy of his caregivers.

His imposing presence has caused a stir among the other cats.

The family overseeing his care seeks a suitable barn home, where his formidable appearance would be valued. Interested parties are invited to contact us directly for further information. 🐾

Meet Jax — The Bestest Boy Looking for a New Best Friend 💕

💔Jax just lost his 101-year-old mom — and he’s not ready to give up on love.

This spirited 10-year-old, 40lb mix is looking for a new human to adore. He’s house-trained, neutered, fully vetted, and ready to be your loyal shadow (and occasional couch hog).

He'd probably do best as the only pet, though we suspect he was just very protective of his mom. He might show a little leash drama with other dogs, but that could just be his way of saying, "I've got this, Mom!" No cats, please-he believes they're tiny ninjas plotting world domination. 😼
