Happy National Pit Bull Awareness Day (and Month!)
The dogs commonly known as "pit bulls" have been woven into the history of the United States since their introduction to the country in the early 1900s.
Due to their loyal and loving temperament, especially with children, they quickly gained popularity and became integral members of families all across the country.
It didn't take long for "pit bulls" to earn the nickname "America's Dog."
And because they were considered American icons, "pit bulls" were adopted as mascots for all branches of the military as they were seen as representing the unwavering spirit of America.
They still represent that unwavering spirit.
Today, bully-breed dogs have a variety of functions in society, including police K9 officers, search and rescue dogs, arson dogs, bomb and drug-sniffing dogs, and therapy dogs, just to name a few.
Perhaps their most important role today, however, is the quintessential family dog: loyal, affectionate, comedic, extremely intelligent, and intuitive, they are the very heart of millions of families in America.
In fact, U.S. News and World Report recently collected industry data from Rover and the American Pet Products Association, and found "pit bulls" to be the FOURTH most popular FAMILY DOG in the United States today, and they represent the true "spirit of America" like no other dog.
October is National Pit Bull Appreciation Month.
Share the bully love. 💜
