Breeding is an art and we hope this publication will help individuals grow their lines and our amazing breed, as well as give individuals the opportunity to showcase their hard work to others who otherwise would not have known what was available.

The deadline is quickly approaching!!!
Last year we curated almost seventy pages of ads to showcase our hounds and our hard work, I’ve seen some of what’s going on out there since the last issue was released and it’s exciting stuff!

US and international breeders/owners welcome.
If you would like your previous ad(s) rerun with or without edits please let us know.
Ad creation remains free this year to all interested individuals.
Whether you have one dog or a whole pack, there’s an ad category for almost everyone!

Happy Hounding, Paige

Guess what?! It's time to start thinking about next year's Studbook submissions! After reviewing all of the feedback from last year, we are making a few changes for this year.

First, by extending the timeline for submissions. We are opening submissions for our 2025 Studbook starting June 1st, 2024 through November 15th, with final approvals being due by December 15th, 2024. This will give more time for submissions as well as avoid the Christmas and New Year’s holidays that created a bit of a time-crunch for some.

Second, by requiring all dogs in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, and Litter Announcement categories to have listed on their ad the minimum of Heart, Hips, and Eye health testing in alignment with the recommendations by the breed club and OFA. Individuals who have not completed the testing will have “Not Completed” listed in that section and are still encouraged to participate!

Third, by including international dogs to be included in our Studbook. They will be required to include the same health testing of Heart, Hips, and Eyes and anything not completed will have “Not Completed” by that health test. While understanding that international clubs may not require/recommend the same health testing we do here in the US, we will hold them to the same standard as the country of origin. This is geared towards international breeders who are interested in working with breeders in the US, though that is not required to participate.

Fourth, we have created a website to make everything simpler! All of the forms and this year's Studbook can be found on the website. We will still be posting updates on our page, but we are hoping this will make ad submissions a lot easier for everyone.

A reminder that you do not have to be a member of the American Black and Tan Coonhound Club to submit an ad for the studbook, the project goal is to bring breeders and fanciers together for networking and not contribute to a split that already exists. Your dog must be AKC registered if here in the US and follow the same rules listed.

Our goal is to help breeders make educated breeding decisions and to help better the breed we all love.

Ad submissions and Ad creation services will continue to remain free for the foreseeable future to the best of our abilities. This is to maintain our long-term goal of accessibility and breed longevity. We will be setting up a link for anyone interested in making a friendly donation to help offset the cost to maintain the website and for the ad creation software. We thank you for your support and can't wait to see how great we can make the 2025 Black and Tan Studbook.

From owner, Teresa: “Sheridan quickly incorporated herself into our lives, charming my husband and teaching him to give her multiple treats throughout the day. She is athletic and opinionated and has a large personality. She lets random strangers hold her for Fast Cat and sniffs out her human friends at scent work trial parking lots and shamelessly begs for treats. Her favorite activity is canine parkour. Her breeder, Traci Mitchell, contacted me and said I have a puppy for you and although I wasn't looking, I was smitten when I met her. Sheridan's call name comes from CJ Box's series of books featuring Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. Thank you Carlin Kennels for such an amazing dog!”

Instead of our usual Monday Ad Feature this week we’re going to congratulate all participants in the American Black and Tan Coonhound Club’s national parent club specialty over this past weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. A very large entry with a lot of promise for the future of our breed! The list (of nearly 60 entries) was simply too cumbersome to list out in Facebook, we’ve featured those who placed in the ribbons on Friday (Specialty day) and added a link to the full catalog of entries.

From owner Shelley, “Tucker is a big, easy mover with a great personality. He’s a fun-loving and playful dog who’s just now maturing and coming into his own. He finished before he was a year old and has been spending time maturing in body and brain since then. A beautifully blended pedigree that makes me very excited for the next generation!”

Kennel Ad, a note from breeder, Paige: “I got started with my first coonhound from Shelley Campbell eleven years ago in 2013, and have been researching and learning ever since. I have a network of mentors and friends who share my love for the preservation of this wonderful breed and are the foundation that has allowed me to endeavor to produce dogs with good health, structure, and temperament. I place heavy emphasis on the “whole dog”. Without Shelley, I would not have the foundation of breed knowledge and access that I’ve been blessed with. I’m always striving to educate myself, make sound breeding choices, and advocate for the dog above all else. My next generation of puppies is growing up and will start showing in early 2024, and have been introduced to raccoon scent. I hope to find the right match for Sam in the near future.”

Frozen Stud Dog available to approved females, from Owner Karen: “GCh CSG Clover Creek Big Daddy CD RE NJP was the first Black & Tan Coonhound to ever be elected to the ABTCC Versatility Hall of Fame. Always owner-handled, and lightly shown, Big Daddy achieved 26 placements in the regular Hound Group. At 3 different ABTCC National Specialties, he was awarded Best of Opposite S*x, First Award of Merit, and Best Veteran.

Big Daddy combines some older hard-to-find bloodlines. His sire Ch. Southchase's Can You Do Magic (Merlin), won the 2002 National Specialty, and was OFA Excellent. His dam, Ch.CSG Clover Creek Velvet Touch RN was BOS at Westminster, and was sired by BIS Ch.Designer's Southern Tradition (by Traverse Hill Trail Boss) and out of Regional Specialty Winner Ch. CSG Highflyer Sugar Magnolia (by Ch Britt's Bounty Hunter).”
