When checking the websites the other day there were 456 puppies available on one and 420 puppies available on the other. Way down from the 972 puppies shown early Spring in Oak Ridge alone.

Looking at just Bernedoodles – both websites for the most part show the same dog photos names with a total of 30 or 27 of this breed respectively. Zoey, Grace and Logan are the additional ones and are older puppies.

Taking a look at Cavalier King Charles Spaniels – there’s a little more of a difference. 19 on one and 18 on the other respectively. This breed too reflects some of the same dogs photos/names. Susan appearing on websites has just the cutest face and expression!

Maltipoo’s, some noted as “Teacup Toy” or F1b where there are 8 on one site and 59 on the other site respectively. Some are 4 weeks old.

Are you aware of what an F1b or an F2 are referring to when labeling a puppy? There are many other generation labels to be learn about with all the mixed breeds available today.

Staying with the breeds above and what’s on the websites-

F1 means first generation the cross between two purebred. An F1 Bernedoodle for example would be 50% Bernese & 50% Poodle

-F1b Bernedoodles are also known as second generation mixes. The F1b Bernedoodle is the result of crossing an F1 Bernedoodle with one of the parent breeds (usually the poodle)

-The F2 Bernedoodle is the result of breeding two F1 Bernedoodles

A total of 39 different breeds are available at this time. This information is a partial glimpse of the puppies available on the day we checked the sites out.

Is this enough information for you to render an opinion if you consider this to be a Puppy Mill or a Breeder?

“A puppy mill, also known as a puppy farm, is a commercial dog breeding facility characterized by quick breeding and poor conditions.”

“Puppy mills produce the highest number of puppies at the lowest possible cost without regard to the dogs’ health or well-being.”

“Dogs rescued from puppy mills were more than twice as likely as other pet dogs to exhibit a fear of unfamiliar people in an animal welfare study of more than 1,000 caretakers with companion dogs.”

“A puppy mill is a commercial dog breeding facility that prioritizes profits over the health and well-being of their animals. These operations tend to house their dogs and puppies in squalid conditions, overlooking healthy breeding traits and safe practices. Puppy mill proprietors mass-produce puppies by over-breeding dogs, often regardless of health or genetic defects. The breeding dogs spend their lives being bred repeatedly until no longer deemed useful. The animals are kept in cramped, unsanitary conditions (usually very small wire cages) with little or no chance to play, exercise, or become socialized with humans and other dogs. By six to eight weeks of age, most puppies will be sold to pet stores or marketed directly online. Sadly, a large percentage of puppy mill dogs will develop health and/or behavioral issues. Are you thinking of purchasing a new puppy or know someone who is? There is so much to take into consideration before making the final choice. This series will put you into the best position to make the right choice for you, your family and the new puppy. Reputable/Ethical Breeders is a good place to start.

Ethical breeders (or known to some as kennels) care deeply about producing well-rounded puppies, ready to take on the human world. They understand how crucial the early weeks and socialization is to set a solid foundation for any puppy.


Listen to the answers!


Ask your breeder how they socialize their puppies?

Are they allowed in a run with other puppies several times a day or how often?

Are they taken to stores out in public, how often, how did they behave?


What experiences have they been exposed to? Shopping? Car Riding? Parks?

How did they do?

Will they share photos/videos of what your puppies' daily routine consists of?

Remember we “can” do anything!


What are their current living conditions? Preferably you want to see this first hand.

Are they running around a house? Do they have a separate area allowing them

space to run and play as well as sleep and potty.


How often are they allowed outside to run, play?

We want the puppies to feel the grass, sniff, and expand their world.
