Meet Darcy

Darcy is my absolute best boy. He’s an 18 year old 14.3 cob who’s worth his weight in gold. I’ve actually known Darcy for 8 years now but had the privilege of having him on full loan for over 2 years.
In that time we’ve hacked for miles, done some jumping (if you know me you know this is a big deal) won some showing competitions and he’s even done a stint as an RDA horse.

Darcy is truly a dream come true and I hope to have loads more adventures with him this year 🐴⭐️

I mentioned in a previous post that I use the SMART method when I teach. This is something I actually learnt during my A Levels to help with developing revision techniques which was further touched upon during my equine degree for my dissertation.

SMART is an incredible tool to help develop goals and targets to reach that are…
🐴 SPECIFIC - what are you actually trying to achieve?
🐴 MEASURABLE - how can we measure your progress? Perhaps our transitions are cleaner than before or you’re getting better marks in your dressage tests?
🐴 ATTAINABLE - can you meet your goal? Your goals should challenge you but they shouldn’t be completely out of reach.
🐴 REALISTIC - just started riding and wanting to compete at Badminton next year? This isn’t realistic… but just started riding and want to be confidently cantering and starting to jump by next year? This is definitely something we can work towards!
🐴 TIMED - always have a goal date. I usually give months to aim for such as “by Christmas we shall be doing x” and allowing us to work towards that!

Now the smart method can always be adapted to meet riders needs. Goal posts can ALWAYS be changed and goals tweaked to continue to promote rider development.

The main focus of riding should be fun but also safety..

I always say “if it isn’t fun, why are you doing it?!” 🐴🐴🐴

So a bit of a change of plans… I am now the new head of client activities at Snowball Farm!
Very excited for this opportunity and a chance to develop my career further!
I’ll still be teaching just no longer at Goulds Green..

On another note, I currently am helping to school a gorgeous 16.2hh maxi cob named Sully. Having just moved to a new yard that has the luxury of a school we did a very gentle session today.
Working on the scales of training today we focused on having a consistent rhythm. Being unfit, Sully often struggles to maintain a consistent rhythm and finds being asked to work more actively hard. Today we worked on transitions that were clean and forward whilst also trying to crack the elusive right canter. I wasn’t too fussed on where his head was today but was pleasantly surprised to find he dropped into a lovely natural outline without much ask.
Onwards and upwards ✨

✨Hello✨
I thought I’d do a little introduction post to the person behind C.A.S Equine Coaching.

My name is Caprice and I have been a qualified instructor for over 2.5 years now having gained my BHS stage 2 at the Berkshire Riding Centre during a period of working there. Teaching has always been my dream, ever since I could remember I wanted to train police horses and the police how to ride, but fundamentally I just wanted to teach.

Having first sat on a horse at the age of 3 on holiday with my parents, it sparked a lifelong passion for me. At the age of 6 my dream began as I started to have lessons at my local riding school before moving to my beloved Orchard Cottage Riding Stables which gave me the fundamental knowledge I still rely on today. I cannot thank that yard or their staff enough for nurturing my passion and educating me on equestrianism, I owe them everything.
From there I started to have share horses through the ages of 14-18 as well as working on a variety of different yards, from livery to racing, before I decided to go to Moreton Morrell to study an Equine Studies degree in 2015. Graduating 3 years later I stepped away from the equine industry to get a “real” job (what even is a real job?!) before realising that horses remained my passion and I wanted to finally get my qualifications to teach..

So, that leads to now, I’ve been teaching at various riding schools for the past 2 years and am currently freelancing based at Goulds Green Riding School. I focus on rider goals using the SMART system (which I’ll explain more in another post!) working through problems and confidence issues, as well as giving you the support to have fun with your riding. I am hoping to develop my teaching further whilst also being open to taking on new clients for 1-2-1 training sessions in the future, so watch this space!! 🐴
