I'm so excited to announce I will be volunteering with the ASPCA for one week to assist in caring for pets displaced by the LA wildfires.

Selfishly I'm looking forward to getting back into something I loved so much, but thought was forever lost to the stroke, and also refreshing those rusty skills.

I'm also afraid of the emotional weight that comes with this sort of thing. But that's nothing compared to what the residents of LA are going through.

We can all do a small part.

I've been staying off social media lately, so only just found out that the groundbreaking Karen Pryor passed yesterday. She was a tremendous force that impacted the lives of countless dogs and people. You may have heard of this little thing called or the book "Don't Shoot the Dog," or perhaps the Karen Pryor Academy? If you're not familiar with her I encourage you to become so, as I couldn't begin to encapsulate the accomplishments and contributions she achieved, especially in a time when women were supposed to sit down and be quiet. If you are already familiar, then you know the magnitude of her life and of her loss. I had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and she was always lovely, upbeat and kind. They say don't meet your heros, but I'm so grateful to have met her. She was better than expected. If you've ever done something called clicking or marking, she impacted you and your pets as well. Let's all take a moments of gratitude to honor a woman who literally changed the world. Thank you Karen, you will be missed *Click*

Wheezy visited her great grandma who thoroughly enjoyed the surprise ❤️ Wheezy and I had previously been working toward becoming a team, but it occurred to me that she may be "too nosy" to sit still for visits, which is what I think elderly folks would enjoy most (the group I'd personally prefer to visit). She confirmed with my grandmother that, yes, she is indeed too interested in checking out every room, window, nook and cranny unless I pet her continuously. So we'll limit visits to Grandma Jones, I think.

I think there's an exception to most rules and very little is black and white. I typically don't advise putting clothes on pets, especially when they dislike it. That said, here's my girl who has very little fur and shivers in the winter when she's not under the covers or in a heated bed (of which she has multiple). So today she got a sweater to have more comfort. She doesn't care at all, runs and plays and uses the box and acts like her normal self, and IS moving around the house more (less time in heated bed).
