On behalf of the Barczyk family and our entire team at The Reptarium, it is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Brian Barczyk.

More than the guiding light of our organization, Brian's fervent passion for reptiles and wildlife, along with his steadfast dedication to education, has touched innumerable hearts and minds globally.

Our deepest sympathies are with Brian's family, his friends, and all those whose lives he has touched. We've lost an exceptional individual – a visionary, mentor, and friend. For those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, Brian's absence leaves an immeasurable void.
As we navigate this difficult time, we find comfort in the memories and the lasting light of Brian's work. He will be deeply missed but indeed, never forgotten.

The Barczyk family invites you to join us for a Public Memorial Walk-through to honor Brian’s memory. The event will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Heritage Church, located at 44625 Schoenherr Rd. Sterling Heights, MI 48313 from 1-3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to show your support by visiting https://thereptarium.com/pages/brianbarczyk . Your engagement and involvement are greatly valued during this time.

Also, at LegaSea's opening, visitors will find Brian's handprints. Guests place their hands in his, continuing his legacy in a simple, yet powerful gesture. Please continue to follow this page for updates.

Brian, we will see you in the next one. Everyone else, see you at LegaSea.

- The Reptarium Team.

Many turtles including Matamatas, Alligator snappers, Common snappers, all Broad-headed map turtles, Red-crowned roof turtle, Indochinese box turtle, Neotropical wood turtles, all mud turtles, all musk turtles, American softshell turtles, and Leith's softshell turtle will now be listed under CITES (Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species).

Appendix I:
Batagur kachuga
Cuora galbinifrons
Kinosternon cora
Kinosternon vogti
Nilssonia leithii

Appendix II:
Chelus fimbriata ,C. orinocensis
Macrochelys spp, Chelydra serpentina
Graptemys barbouri, ernsti, gibbonsi, pearlensis, pulchra
Genus Rhinoclemmys
Claudius angustatus
Genus Kinosternon
Genus Sternotherus
Staurotypus triporcatus, S. salvinii
Genus Apalone

Captive bred turtles make up 88% of reptile exports from the US. Listing under CITES Appendix I makes export virtually impossible. Listing under Appendix II and III will increase the paperwork burden to export animals and makes export difficult.

Animal rights groups like Center for Biological Diversity have advocated for a failed "War on Turtles" law enforcement crackdown. However, when legitimate captive breeding is discouraged, demand is more likely to be filled with wild caught animals by the black market. This has already happened with Diamondback terrapins and American box turtles, which experienced spikes in demand after being listed under CITES, which resulted in an increase in poaching and smuggling.

Other h**p species proposed for CITES listing include Chinese water dragon, Pygmy blue tongue skink, Jeypore Indian gecko, Helmethead gecko, Desert horned lizard, Timber rattlesnake, Puerto Rican boa, and Glass frogs.

Every baby is raised with bugs and love. Quality is our #1 goal!

At Modern Day Dragons we breed the best quality lines in our ambanja, ambilobe and tamataves. We believe in hands on with our babies who are raised until 3 months old before we release them to their new homes. Our business is run out of our home so our chams are never far away. The adult breeders and hold backs are in our garage which has been converted for their care requirements according to temperature, humidity, hydration and lighting. Enclosures are on rack systems with casters so they can wheeled outside for natural Florida sunshine. The baby nursery and incubators are located in our master bedroom so they can be monitored and cared for 24/7. Every egg laid has a piece of our heart in it and every baby hatched is cared for individually daily to make sure all eat well, stay hydrated and grow to the best of their ability. When you purchase a Modern Day Dragon you get much more than just a baby. You get free lifetime consultations and advice. No question goes unanswered and is usally responded to very quickly or within a few hours at most. We don’t just want your money, we want the best for our babies and for you to enjoy your new addition and know you have someone to turn to when you have a question or concern that you don’t know the answer to. You don’t buy a baby from us, you become part of the Modern Day Dragon family.
