With hunting season right around the corner, please remember that CWD sampling is mandatory. I will, once again, be a depot ONLY to those who drop off their deer/elk/moose for me to work on (such as a horn mount, euro or shoulder mount). The government has asked that all Hunter’s learn how to collect their own samples and submit them. Once the government has updated their website with drop off locations, I will share that information here.

All right everyone! With the 2023 hunting season just around the corner, here are some things to know and remember!

CWD - I will be a depot this year BUT with ONE MASSIVE CHANGE! I will ONLY be sampling for those that leave their deer/elk/moose with me to work on - such as a horn mount, euro or a shoulder mount. I WILL NOT BE A GENERAL DEPOT THIS YEAR!! I’m sorry about this, but last year was very crazy for me and I need to pay respect to my clients. I will not be sampling anything if you are wanting to do your own mount or have a doe. If you have any questions, please private message me.

CWD - the gov has changed their drop off time from 48 hours to 7 days. If you shoot a deer/elk/moose and are looking for me to mount it, please get it to me prior to that 7 day mark, especially in the warmer weeks. And especially for those shoulder mounts, I don’t want a 7 day old cape coming in that hasn’t been frozen. It will be trash in 7 days.

CWD - the gov is asking for legal land description or gps location. I don’t share this with any hunter that comes in. Please don’t complain to me about giving me the location. I’m only doing what I’ve been asked to do. If you have a concern with the program, I can forward the phone number to contact. I am simply proving a service to help out the Hunter’s. I have no control over how this CWD program is ran.

CWD - mule, whitetail and elk are mandatory. Moose are by Hunter’s choice. I have been asked to submit the whole bottom jaw this year instead of one tooth. Euros still can be done, but I will no longer be offering the bottom jaw.

Prior to shooting your deer/elk/moose, have an idea on what you’d like to do with it. Are you thinking that if it is smaller, you’d like to get it mounted as a horn mount? Or you really want a shoulder mount done even if it’s a small buck (or doe!), look at your wall space, see where you’d like to hang it. How much ceiling height do you have? Which way the deers nose would turn, think about different poses such as full sneak all the way to a full upright. Think about the cost that goes into mounting your kill. It’s better to know prior to hunting than to shoot something and leave it laying around for weeks.

Well, hunting season is over, which means the CWD sampling is over as well. I want to thank everyone that was patient with me, with this new program. It was a crazy-busy time for me. I had well over 100 heads that came through and were sampled.

I know a lot of people had their opinions on the program - I heard it all. But for the most part, on my end, things ran pretty smoothly.

There will be changes made for next year (yes, this program will be continuing on, it’s a program that we all just need to get use to). But until then, enjoy your hunt, the memories that were created and the people whom you hunted with.

A couple of things to keep in mind this hunting season.

The mule tags - you are only allowed ONE buck and 2 does. Not 2 or 3 bucks!!

Also, if you are taking your heads into any big buck night, you will need to show them your yellow receipt from your CWD testing.

Euros, horn mounts and shoulder mounts can still be done even with the CWD testing.
