T-Rex

T-Rex T-Rex was born on or around November 19, 2012. He was born with two deformed front legs. He can't walk like normal dogs but gets around just fine!

T-Rex was born with a heredity condition called ectrodactyly or "split digit." The deformity, seen in cats, humans and dogs, is a little different in each case. The long bones of the foot split and the separation also sometimes extends up the forearm. The webbing is the skin stretched between the bones. T-Rex is currently living in his forever home, thanks to California Animal Rescue. Some "man" w

as trying to give T-Rex away outside of a store. When he couldn't find someone to take the poor puppy, he tossed him to the side of the store and left him there. Luckily, a nice lady found him and brought him to a shelter. From there, he was offered to rescues only, due to his deformity. His foster mom saw his picture and fell in love. California Animal Rescue stepped in and pulled him from the shelter and off to his new foster home he went. Foster mom thought that T-Rex was the perfect name for him because of how he walks and waves his little arms around. T-Rex went thru 3 different surgeries to help correct one of his front legs. He now qualifies as at least a 3 legged dog! He also found his forever home with his foster mom as she became a "foster failure" to the happiest little dog around.

T-Rex update! T-Rex has had a lump on the left side of his rib cage - between skin and outside of ribs. We've been keeping an eye on it for a while now. Early on when we first noticed the lump, we did a test and it was determined to be a fatty tumor. Last month, it appeared to be a bit more solid and larger so off to the vet we went. He got an x-ray and a lot of poking and prodding. The vet wasn't too pleased with how the x-ray looked, nor how the tumor felt. It was decided to come back in a few weeks or sooner if his behavior changed.

I counted down those weeks very carefully and watched T's every move. We went in for a recheck on Friday. This time, T was seen by his normal vet and then had the other vet come in & advise. The tumor has doubled in size but the x-rays show no tumors other than that one. We took another sample of the tumor. This time, the vet thought he saw a few mast cells which would mean that it could be a cancerous tumor now.

Because of the mast cells and the fact that it has doubled in size in a short amount of time, the vet is recommending surgery asap. Luckily, the tumor hasn't become entwined with the ribs. It appears to be outside of the rib. He's predicting that he will be able to get it all out. We can then check to see if it's cancerous or not. If it's not, then we will all do a happy dance.

So, my little old man will be having surgery a week from today. The surgery will be a success, the tumor will be totally removed and no cancer will be found anywhere. Positive thinking is always the way to go. And, of course, we appreciate any and all positive thoughts from his Facebook community.

I was scratching T's belly and noticed that he has a birthmark shaped like a heart. Usually T hates to be on his back so he doesn't get many belly scratches where I can actually see what I'm scratching. Today, the sun hit it just right when T was half way over and voila, there it was!

Yes, T- Rex is spoiled. Yes, he gets to bug daddy when we eat in the living room. And yes, I am used as a stepping stool to get closer to the food. But, seriously, look how cute he is...like anyone could resist.
