We've been busy planning for Aquashella Dallas! Booth #500 will be filled with more beautiful layouts by talented aquascapers and filled with so much knowledge and expertise. You'll have to stop by to see - so will we see you there?

Next month, we're at Aquashella and we couldn't be more excited. We have big things planned with some amazing talented folks and we can't wait to share. Will we see you there?

Where can you find Jen this year? "In 2022 I’ll be out ‘n about! Aside from the three Aquashellas where you can find me manning the Aqua Gallery and Creator’s Challenge or presenting to the attendees, I’ll be presenting at the Keystone Clash in the fall, a few club meetings, and some store demos here and there. There will also be a return of the Aquatic Gardener’s Association (AGA) Convention this year! I’ll be working with the other board members and the Chicago Aquatic Plant Society (CAPS) tirelessly to help make it the best one yet. I’m always forgetting to take pictures, but I’m hoping to be better this year so I can share my adventures on Instagram."

Where can you find Jeff this year? "I’m very hopeful that I'll be even more present within the community at the conventions, local fish stores and aquarium clubs. My first stop is actually Benson’s Fish Room on February 5th in NY. I’m also working toward adding some additional locations to my future travels like friend visits, mentoring, and assisting people who have reached out to me for help.

Beyond all this, that I already love doing, I want to really put myself on YouTube/Instagram this year and share my travels and experiences with the community.

You also will find me at Aquashella, giving demos in the AquaGallery booth. If you’re there, be sure to stop by and pick my brain!"

What aquarium projects does Jen have planned for 2022? "Aquarium projects for 2022: I can not wait to get my hands dirty in a ScaperLine! I’m not sure if it will host my next biotope, but I definitely have some ideas for it! I’ve been itching to get back into Pterophyllum (Angelfish) for some time, so I suspect I’ll acquire some soon and take care of that itch. Also on the radar is the possibility of a macro algae setup, although I fear I might get kicked out of the freshwater club if I have TWO salty tanks! For sure I’ll do a different local biotope, I’ve just loved this one so much and enjoyed the interest I’ve sparked in North American natives—not to mention being able to raise awareness that you can find really neat creatures in places you’d never expect, like your neighborhood creek. "

What aquarium projects does Jeff have planned for 2022? "For this year I generally want to expand on what I've already done in previously. Namely, public appearances have been the best most rewarding opportunity I could ask for and want to continue them first and foremost. Making friends and being there to mentor those that need it has been extremely gratifying. And then of course aquascaping and feeling the joy of creating layouts.

Contest entries for IAPLC using the "Miotke" aquarium which was started in October.

I really wanted to 3-peat in the China International Aquascaping Contest but it was postponed indefinitely. So, this is a moving target.

Setup my home office and dedicate it to my aquarium gallery. I currently have 7 aquariums of which only 1 is setup. Shuffling around furniture and objects to make room for all these aquariums especially the OASE ScaperLine 90. Above and beyond just setting up the aquariums and the room I want to share the journey. There are a lot of aspects that I've been struggling with to make this happen. Like space, lighting and travel time as well as balancing within my life. I think these struggles are real for just about everyone."

Jen's goals for 2022? "Honestly I’d love to just get back in a rhythm again. The last two years have just been so tumultuous it’s been hard to have consistency about anything for me (and I’d bet I’m not the only one). In the fishroom I aim to be more structured about maintenance so I can stay on top, since I’ll be doing a bit of traveling again this year (hello Aquashellas!). I’d also like to regroup a bit and really focus on what speaks to me…downsizing will help, and I have plans for another local native biotope. I’ll also get back on the competition wagon and try to submit to at least two contests this year. I don’t typically set big sweeping resolutions, since it’s so easy to miss targets and then get down on myself about it, but smaller, achievable goals can be conquered!"

Jeff's goals for 2022? "I like plans and goals. I started looking to next year back in October. Here are a few thoughts on what currently has my focus:

Redemption in the IAPLC after last year's wipe out and last-minute scramble

Learn, Learn and Learn. I'm fascinated with filming and social media and want to really expand my horizons. I plan on improving my storytelling, filming techniques and workflow.

Transition my home office into my aquarium gallery and filming studio.

Travel and share my insight and experiences in the aquarium hobby."

Since we're asking: are you a fan of working with cube aquariums? If you're on the fence, then we think this one by Bailin Shaw might change your mind - look at that hardscape! We like how he set this 7.5 gallon AquaLife aquarium up, powering it with our FiltoSmart Thermo 100.
