I was a bit sad this morning as I dropped my teenage daughter off at camp for the week until I realized that she won’t here to comment on how I chew or talk or dress or smell or breathe. Calllgonnnnn. 🙏

What’s with Door Dash?

“Okay so your total comes to $21.36 before tax, service fee, government donation, gas charge, tip for the person who put your Diet Coke together, delivery fee, driver tip, DoorDash app fee, and the guy sitting shotgun in the car who actually walks the food to your front steps tip. . .

So your new total is $176.49. Your food should be there in 45 minutes and we’ll definitely eat some of your fries before we get there.”

I was hesitant to post this because of the brutality of what happened.

On a rainy Thursday night, I brought my daughter to the middle school for basketball practice. After I parked the car, I could hear what sounded like a dog fight not far away. When I looked over, I saw a stray dog attacking an elderly man and his Bernese mountain dog.

The stray had latched onto the other dog’s neck and was shaking it ferociously. I had no idea how long it had been going on, so I immediately grabbed a leash from my car and ran to them. It took several minutes, it felt like hours, to separate the dogs. Both dogs were severely injured. Blood was pumping from the owner’s hands. He had too many puncture wounds to count.

I put the leash on the stray and poured a bag of dog treats on the ground. I unzipped my sweatshirt and made a tourniquet for the man’s hand. He seemed to be suffering from shock — I sent him to the emergency vet hospital so they could take care of him and his poor dog.

I called Animal Control. For 38 minutes I waited in the rain doing everything I could to keep this stray from attacking me. Thank god for salmon treats in the back of my car.

The elderly gentleman called me from the emergency room saying that both he and his dog were going to be OK. His dog had bite punctures on his back, chest, and throat. By the grace of God, this dog survived. I am feeling so grateful to have been in the right place at the right time.

*I’m not sure of the attack dog’s health at this time. I just hope that wherever he is, he’s getting the physical AND mental care that he needs.*
