VT Dog Rescue We rescue mixed breed dogs of all ages from high kill shelters in the South, rehabilitate and place them in loving homes.

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue. While there are many canine rescue organizations, our focus is on saving the underdog. The dogs who are passed over simply because they are not perfect. These dogs may have lost a leg or are shy. An underdog may be an older dog who is not as active as he used to be or one with a heart murmur. Dogs who have had a rough start in life but against all odds, ha

ve retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love unconditionally. We believe the underdogs deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

✨ Our girl Juniper is looking for her forever home! ✨

You’ve seen her story... from a mama in rough shape at the shelter to a thriving, vibrant young dog. Junie's puppies have all been adopted, and now it’s Junie’s turn! 💛

At just 2 years old and a compact 45 lbs., Juniper is the perfect mix of brains, beauty, and bounce! She's incredibly smart, active, and adores her human friends. Her zest for life might be a bit much for small kiddos and feline friends, but she’s got plenty of love to give the right family.

Junie’s past is a bit of a mystery. Whether she missed out on socializing as a pup or became extra alert from protecting her little ones on her own, she can sometimes be reactive in new environments. But with the amazing support of Clay @ Coast Peak K9 and her wonderful foster home, Juniper is learning to slow down, "soak it in," and relax into the world around her. And wow, what progress she’s making! 💥

All she needs now is a patient, active adopter who’s ready to continue her training and give her the forever home she so deserves. 🐾

Juniper would make a great adventure buddy, agility partner, or a fun and active family member. Reach out to learn more and please share this post.

9/15/25 PENNY HAS FOUND A FOSTER. UPDATES TO BE POSTED SOON. THANK YOU FOR THE OUTPOURING OF LOVE AND CARE FOR THIS SWEET GIRL. WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR THIS AMAZING COMMUNITY! 🙌

‼️URGENT - FOSTER NEEDED‼️

Meet Penny! Penny is an 11-year-old, 12-pound sweetheart who is a local surrender and is now in urgent need of a foster home. We had a foster lined up through VDR, but due to unforeseen circumstances, that plan fell through - and now Penny has nowhere to go. 🥺

Despite a few age-related issues, Penny overall is in good health. She’s up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and spayed. Penny is scheduled for a minor surgery on Monday. She’ll need a little extra TLC during her short recovery period.

If you can open your heart and home to help Penny during this transitional time, please reach out. She deserves comfort, care, and love—especially now. 💛

🐾 Forever Friday Update! 🐾

Leila has officially been adopted - by her foster family! 💛

She settled in right away, but from day one, she made it pretty clear who her favorite was... dad! These two just clicked instantly, and that bond has only grown stronger.

At a recent vet visit, it was discovered that Leila is deaf (or at least has significant hearing loss), which is extra heartwarming considering this pup was saved from euthanasia in the last hour by her amazing family. Luckily, she’ll have another dog in the home to help show her the ropes, but let’s be honest, she’s mostly just following dad anyway. 😄

Congrats to Leila and her family — this one was meant to be! 🏡

Here’s your daily dose of sweetness- courtesy of our beautiful boy, Biscuit! 🤎

Here’s what his foster mom recently shared, “Biscuit is starting to settle in! He is slowly trusting us more day by day. Having our dogs to look to and play with has definitely helped him relax and feel more confident with us. He is showing us his cheeky side more by taking our shoes and running with them, but hasn’t decided to chew any yet. He walks well on leash and is slowly showing us his affectionate side. He loves to cuddle up with pillows, blankets, anything soft and has discovered he likes chewing on sticks, bones, fire hydrant fabric toys, and ropes.”

Biscuit is a year old, 45 lbs, neutered and up to date on vaccines. He is now accepting applications!! To learn more, please visit www.vtdogrescue.com/biscuit

🐾 Meet Biscuit, our newest arrival!

Biscuit arrived on Saturday and has been getting settled into his foster home. About a year old, this sweet boy can be a little timid at first but is starting to warm up nicely. He's such a gentle, loving pup.

Here's what we know about Biscuit so far:

* Loves being outside and plays great with other dogs
*Crate-trained (just needs a bit of encouragement getting in)
*Hesitant with the leash, but walks like a pro once it's on
*Loves cuddling on the couch and in bed

We will have more of an update to share soon - in the meantime, his foster pack is helping him to come out of his shell and feel more confident. 🐾 He's such a good boy and would make an amazing addition to the right home!

Juniper is a bright, curious 2-year-old pup who takes her job as “Professional Supervisor” very seriously. Whether you’re folding laundry, working from home, or making a snack, she’ll be right there to make sure everything’s going smoothly (and to check if you dropped a treat 😄).

She’s also got a keen eye for neighborhood watch - no squirrel, mail carrier, or passing dog escapes her attention. Juniper loves to be involved in whatever you’re doing and thrives in a home where she can be part of the action.

Looking for a companion who doubles as a security patrol and cheerleader? Juniper might just be your perfect match. 💛

Meet Saffron (aka Ronnie)!

This sweet girl is in Vermont and is settling in beautifully. Now 10 months old and around 40 lbs, Ronnie is a gentle soul with a medium energy level. While she enjoys playtime, she’s just as content lounging quietly by your side.

Ronnie is great with other dogs and is doing well with the cats in her foster home, making her a wonderful fit for a multi-pet household. She’s crate-trained, house-trained, spayed, and up to date on all vaccinations.

Though still young, Ronnie isn’t overly puppy-like...she’s calm, easygoing, and listens well. She responds nicely to gentle guidance and has already proven to be one of the easiest foster dogs her foster mom has had.

Ronnie would thrive in a home where she can be a loving companion, whether to a single person, couple, or family, and would also be perfectly happy with a bit of independence throughout the day.

Patty (beagle mix) was a local surrender who's now thriving in her new home alongside her brother, Stanley. Aren't they the perfect pair? 😉

Thanks to the support of Potter's Angels Rescue and our amazing foster mom, Morgan, this sweet pup is living her best life.

Right now, Vermont Rescues are seeing a surge in local surrenders. Fosters and volunteers are urgently needed. If you can help, rescue needs you! It takes a village! 🙏

✨Forever Home Friday✨

Our sweet boy, Sammy, has been adopted! Sammy will live in MA with his new family which includes a canine sibling and two rescue cats.

We recently received an update...

"Sammy is wonderful! He is such a happy dog and has adjusted easily. Thanks to your rescue and Meg, Sammy came to us happy and healthy! Our existing dog, Buffy, accepted Sammy right away and they get along great! We are thrilled! Sammy starts puppy kindergarten Tuesday, and I think he will love it. He is so much fun and smart! Thank you for the important work you do and for Sammy! Meg is fantastic! She made the adoption process stress free and has been so very helpful."

A huge thanks to our foster extraordinaire, Meg, and our southern partner for saving Sammy. Happy Life sweet boy, you deserve it! 💛🐾

💡 A Gentle Reminder to Our Community 💡

We know that reaching out to us when you’re struggling with your pet can come from a place of stress, frustration, or even heartbreak. Please know: we truly want to help. Every message we receive matters to us.

But here’s the reality — rescues and shelters across Vermont have been at full capacity for months. When you contact us asking us to take your pet today, we want to be honest with you: we simply can’t. Not because we don’t care, but because our fosters are full, our resources are stretched, and our team is running on empty.

👉 What we can do is help guide you toward other solutions that might ease your immediate stress:

Trainers who can support behavioral challenges

Boarding facilities for short-term housing needs

Community networks who may be able to step in with advice or support

We’re committed to working with you to find options — but we ask for patience and understanding. Just as you’re feeling overwhelmed, so are we.

If you’re reaching out, please know: we hear you, we care, and we want to help — but we cannot always be the instant solution. With kindness and teamwork, we can find a path forward for both you and your pet. 💚🐾
