VT Dog Rescue We rescue mixed breed dogs of all ages from high kill shelters in the South, rehabilitate and place them in loving homes.

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue. While there are many canine rescue organizations, our focus is on saving the underdog. The dogs who are passed over simply because they are not perfect. These dogs may have lost a leg or are shy. An underdog may be an older dog who is not as active as he used to be or one with a heart murmur. Dogs who have had a rough start in life but against all odds, ha

ve retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love unconditionally. We believe the underdogs deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

Thinking of adding a furry friend to your family this season? Be sure to fully discuss this decision with all household members before bringing them home. Although many forms of media portray gifting an adorable puppy or kitten as a heartwarming surprise, it can end poorly for the new pet. The recipient may not always be in a space where they can fully commit to the financial and time commitments that come with a new pet. If this is something you are considering your new potential pet will benefit immensely from the lack of surprise associated with their joining of your household.

Meet ChristoFUR, a Gentle Soul Seeking His Forever Home

Topher is a gentle boy with a heart of gold. Recently, he faced a difficult time after losing his previous owner. Despite his past, he's shown remarkable resilience and is ready to find a loving family.

This sweet boy is looking for a quiet home where he can be the center of attention. He enjoys cuddling, going for walks, and simply being by his human's side. Topher is good with other dogs and can be independent when needed.

If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion, Topher may be the perfect match for you.

Greta is in VT and ready to find her forever home! She is two years old, house trained, crate trained, and ready to steal your heart.

Greta loves to hang out with her humans and is very affectionate. Car rides and running around the fenced yard are some of her favorite activities. She is a champion ball player and would be a great agility dog, farmhand or hiking sidekick.

Greta is a young dog - guessed to be around 2, but her foster mom feels she may be a bit younger than that. This pup has great eye contact and aims to please. She does tend to have a short attention span and get distracted with that young brain of hers. Once she knows what you want, however, she responds well to her training.

Greta is friendly with all people and likes to be a companion to other dogs. She is interested in cats, squirrels, rabbits, and chickens, but is very responsive to training. Recently her foster mom cleaned the chicken coop with the door wide open and Greta did a great job with the "wait' command. She will need continued work on her impulse control.

Meet Rex! Rex is searching for a new home - no fault of his own. His current owners are in poor health and looking to move into assisted living. He needs help quickly. Rex would do best in a home with another dog and/or cat, as he’s used to living with other animals. Young children would be too energetic for Rex, but we think he could do well with older, gentle children.

Rex is 6 yrs old and is guessed to be a Shepard/Husky mix. Rex is a shy and gentle guy who appreciates having time to warm up to new people and situations. His sweet nature shines through once he’s comfortable. Rex is highly food motivated which makes training easier. If you have treats, you are an immediate friend. He knows “sit”, “paw” and “gentle”. Rex has mostly been in a fenced area, so will need support and training with his leash walking.

Rex has lived a quiet life so still gets a little nervous in unfamiliar environments or with new people. He's best introduced slowly and given time to adjust at his own speed. Rex is not aggressive; he is a sensitive boy and is unsure of himself. He’s still figuring out how to navigate the outside world. He can jump when excited, but with the right training, he'll quickly learn to keep all four paws on the ground!

Rex is ready to bond with a new family who can support him through his journey of becoming the confident, happy pup we know he can be!

Finn found his forever home and we couldn't be happier for him! Here is what his new mom had to say "Finn came to me as a potential foster to adopt. Though it was instant adoration on my part, it took at least an hour for Finn to agree that I was his new person. It’s like he’s been my dog forever. He is such a happy pup - outgoing, affectionate, confident, and playful with both humans and other dogs. Though still a little nervous about his new life here in Vermont, every day he gets more comfortable in his surroundings and more comfortable with showing me his mischievous side. I am the luckiest dog mom ever to have this sweet boy in my life." Happy tails, Finn!

What is at the top of Lolli's wish list this year?

Active, experienced family to call her own. Lolli is full of life and loves to run, jump, and explore. She's an intelligent pup who is eager to learn and bond with her new humans.

Ideal Home Requirements:

No cats or small animals: Lolli has a strong prey drive and would be best suited in a home without them.

Fenced yard: A secure outdoor space is essential for her to burn off energy.

Another playful dog or doggy daycare: Lolli would thrive in a home with a canine companion or enjoy attending daycare.

Very active family: She needs lots of exercise and would do best with owners who enjoy walking, running, or hiking.

Children in home are 10+: Lolli is still learning manners and may be a bit mouthy or jumpy, making her a better fit for older children.

About Lolli:

Endless energy: Lolli is a high-energy dog who loves to play and explore.

Some training is done: She's already crate-trained and eager to learn new commands.

Loving and affectionate: Despite her playful energy, Lolli is a sweet and loving companion.

If you're an active family looking for a loyal and energetic companion, Lolli might be the perfect fit for you!

Giving Tuesday is right around the corner!

There are many ways to give. Of course, a financial contribution is always appreciated and goes directly toward our dogs, but there are also ways to donate that do not require finances at all. Sharing our Giving Tuesday posts helps our reach spread much farther, and we can always use additional foster homes or volunteers!
