VT Dog Rescue We rescue mixed breed dogs of all ages from high kill shelters in the South, rehabilitate and place them in loving homes.
(39)

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue. While there are many canine rescue organizations, our focus is on saving the underdog. The dogs who are passed over simply because they are not perfect. These dogs may have lost a leg or are shy. An underdog may be an older dog who is not as active as he used to be or one with a heart murmur. Dogs who have had a rough start in life but against all odds, ha

ve retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love unconditionally. We believe the underdogs deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

Greta's foster mom just shared "she has learned to self-entertain when her human is away." Go, Greta!

Greta was saved from a Mississippi shelter after becoming urgent and is now happily in Vermont waiting to find her forever home. She is two years old and weighs 50 lbs.

Greta is energetic, loves to play with other dogs, and would do best with a fenced-in yard and a solid routine. She is most active in the morning and again in the evening and requires a daily walk or a game of fetch to burn off some of her energy. Leash walking is a work in progress.

Greta has done well in the house, roaming free with no destructive behavior, as long as she has plenty of toys to entertain her. She is partial to her stuffies and loves to run around shaking and playing with them.

Greta sleeps soundly through the night and has had no accidents in the house. She can get scared of loud noises. Greta is learning that hands are not for mouthing, and for that reason, we feel she would do best in a home with older children.

Some of Greta's favorite activities are riding in the car, snuggling with her foster mom and canine foster sibling, and living her best life as a champion ball chaser. This pup is super smart, food-motivated, and wants to please. Greta's determination has served her well as a survivor as she continues to work on her basic skills and manners.

Meet Lolli, the Energetic and Loving Terrier!

This playful 6-month-old spayed girl is searching for an active, experienced family to call her own. Lolli is full of life and loves to run, jump, and explore. She's an intelligent pup who is eager to learn and bond with her new humans.

Ideal Home Requirements:

No cats or small animals: Lolli has a strong prey drive and would be best suited in a home without them.

Fenced yard: A secure outdoor space is essential for her to burn off energy.

Another playful dog or doggy daycare: Lolli would thrive in a home with a canine companion or enjoy attending daycare.

Very active family: She needs lots of exercise and would do best with owners who enjoy walking, running, or hiking.

Children in home are 10+: Lolli is still learning manners and may be a bit mouthy or jumpy, making her a better fit for older children.

About Lolli:

Endless energy: Lolli is a high-energy dog who loves to play and explore.

Some training done: She's already crate-trained and eager to learn new commands.

Loving and affectionate: Despite her playful energy, Lolli is a sweet and loving companion.

If you're an active family looking for a loyal and energetic companion, Lolli might be the perfect fit for you!

Happy Halloween from our pack to yours! The American Veterinary Medical Association shares the following:

Costumes and masks, lights and decorations, and a constant parade of strangers coming to your door— Halloween can be a downright spooky experience for pets. You can protect your pets by taking these steps to reduce the risk of them being hurt, poisoned, or lost.

Don't feed pets Halloween treats. Raisins can cause your pet’s kidneys to fail, and candy may contain substances toxic to pets, such as chocolate or xylitol (a common sugar substitute found in sugar-free candies and gum). Often, you won’t be able to tell what a treat or piece of candy contains just by looking at it.

Make sure your pets have identification (microchip, collar, and ID tag) that will make it easy for someone to contact you and return them home in case they escape through an open door while you're distracted with trick-or-treaters.
Keep lit candles, jack-o-lanterns, and other Halloween decorations out of reach of pets.

Keep all human costume pieces away from pets, along with glow sticks, decorations, batteries, and other holiday items. When chewed, glow stick items can release liquid that tastes really bad and can make pets drool excessively or act strangely (though it isn’t likely to be harmful). Other costume parts and decorations might cause choking, internal injury, or illness.

If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it follows these guidelines:
Fits properly and is comfortable

Doesn't have any pieces that easily can be chewed off or cause choking
Doesn't block your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, mouth, or movement
Take time before Halloween to get your pet accustomed to the costume, and never leave a costumed pet unsupervised.

If your pet is wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite, put them in a room away from the front door during trick-or-treating hours, or provide them with a safe hiding place.

Keep your pet indoors.

Brynn will be soaking up the sun for as long as possible as we head into the colder months!

Brynn is in Vermont and incredibly sweet. Initially a bit timid, she has blossomed into a well-adjusted, happy 8-month-old puppy who loves being around her humans. Brynn is house-trained, crate-trained, and gentle with children. She is still a puppy and has a lot of energy to burn. Brynn would do best in an active family that would include her in their adventures. If the household does have children, they must be older. She is food-motivated, which will make training easier, and she's incredibly agile. To learn more, apply today https://www.vtdogrescue.com/application

Here's an update from Sophia's foster mom: " She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She gets along well with dogs. She is learning all the basic manners in her foster home and doing very well. She even met some chickens and a horse! She is in the adolescent phase, so she needs a routine and occasional reminders of the expectations."

Charlie is the silliest cuddle bug and we adore him 💚

He is roughly 4 years old and 60 lbs. He loves other dogs, is great with cats, and is the sweetest boy with humans. He loves car rides and goes for walks 2-3 times a day! He is housebroken and has no problem spending time in his crate, he currently sleeps through the night in his without making a peep! His foster shared “ Charlie is the goofiest sweetest boy and by far the easiest foster we've ever had. He blended seamlessly with our little pack and has done well meeting our friends. I have no concerns about him with people of any age as long as they are okay with him nuzzling into their chest to ask for affection.”

Greta's foster mom just shared "she has learned to self-entertain when her human is away." Go, Greta!

Brynn is full of energy and enjoys playing with other dogs. Brynn would thrive in a home without cats or with a very dog-savvy cat.

Brynn is doing exceptionally well in her foster home. Her foster mom shared, "Brynn is the sweetest puppy. She adores everyone and is great with other dogs. She's a perfect blend of puppy energy and snuggles. She enjoys cuddling on the couch with a chew toy or Kong, as well as going on outdoor adventures and has a nose for finding apples along the way. She loves walks on the bike path or in the woods, but if she sees someone on a walk, she must greet them. She'll sit with the hope that they'll come over to say 'hi.'"

Brynn is house-trained, crate-trained, and gentle with children. She is still a puppy and has a lot of energy to burn. Brynn would do best in an active family that would include her in their adventures. She is food-motivated, which will make training easier, and she's incredibly agile.

She was found, along with her siblings (10 total), abandoned under a shed. A good citizen contacted the local rescue in Mississippi, and they were all rescued. Believed to be a hound/bulldog mix, we expect Brynn to grow to be around 40-45 pounds.
