Vi har fått en ny ressurs her hos oss på K vet! 🩺💉

Veterinær Tina «slanger» seg rundt i verdenen og har akkurat jobbet et år i England med smådyr. Hun har reist verden rundt og jobbet med alle slags dyr, og har nå bestemt seg for å komme hjem og jobbe litt her.

Tina har ekstrautdannelse i dyre- akupunktur (mixed animals) hos Chi University, og fullfører nå et kurs i ernæring på hund. Hun trives både i konsultasjons- og kirurgi rommet, men har en ekstra interesse for velvære av eldre dyr og dyr med smerter. Undervisning og «preventive care» er også noe hun interesserer seg for.

På fritiden liker hun sport og hest, og kan oftest bli funnet i stallen.

- Chulla vida 🇪🇨

Had an amazing time visiting Quito and tracking/riding through the Andes mountains the past few days ❤️ How is this scenery though?!😍

FYI the first volunteering I did was with , had a few days off 🏄‍♀️ before my volunteering with an organization in the rainforest, then half a week off to explore some more 🏔️ before heading home ❤️ I like to leave some free space for experiences like this that pop up along the way🐴👆🏻🙌🏻

Maybe I should start organizing volunteer/travel experiences like this?🤣 I feel very lucky💕 and realize how much I’ve missed Travelling alone like this!!

- Volunteering in the Amazon rainforest 👩🏼‍⚕️

I’ve always wanted to see what life in the jungle was like and it lived up to the expectations 😂🥵💦🦟

1. Castrate of a male coati - in attempt to limit unwanted behavior (think ma********ng on the cage in the presence of humans😅). Very similar to what we sometimes see in primates who grew up with humans!
2. Deworming spider monkeys (being dewormed 4x a year, as they are prone to a parasite called Prosthenorchis elegans, which can be especially bad in squirrel monkeys). Also I just discovered that this long dingly thing from their hind part is their cl****is (females) 😂
3. Making enrichment for this tayra (while he’s tryinna eat me alive 🤣). People take them as pets to later realize that they are absolutely not suited as pets and then gets rid of them once they get closer to adulthood, as with many other wild animals 🥲 eg coati’s. (FYI he’s just being ridiculously playful and crazy attacking my boots😂)

Just finished up a week of volunteering in Ecuador 🇪🇨 with alongside and 🙌🏻

Together we spayed & neutered 167 pets in two days, and delivered out free parasite treatments to the local community ❤️ What a way to give back while filling up our buckets on the beautiful coast of Olon/Montanita!!

Here is a slideshow of my Funemployment summer around France ✨

I have taken a break from clinics and caught up with my life, after a prolonged period with the feeling of drowning 🏊‍♀️ and never being on top of anything. I guess doing my acupuncture degree simultaneously as my final year in vet school did not help 😅 And taking a proper break after vet school would’ve been ideal. 🌚

I have recharged, got a bit back in shape, finished some books and courses I’ve been dying to get through, and reflected on my past and my future, with some renewed thoughts for the journey ahead 👩🏼‍⚕️

- 1 month in South Africa 🇿🇦

I’ve been privileged to get to spend one month on my favorite continent, working with wildlife and teaching students all things vet med and conservation 💕

It’s been a great self discovery journey, rediscovering who I am besides being a vet - it’s been a year full of growth and learning, and trying to adapt to adulting abroad; where I almost lost myself in the process.

Connecting with young like minded professionals and aspiring vets have been very refreshing, and may just be the reminder I needed to get my spark back.

Forever grateful for the wonderful team, and the amazing students I’ve got to teach and hang out with❤️

I think one of the most important objectives is to make sure you love your life outside of your work too - I’d say this is the only way you can thrive in this tough profession.

Taking a break to discovering how I can do both 🦸🏼‍♀️

✨2024✨ is soon over, and I’m reflecting on my second year out as a vet. From jumping houses for the third time, second job with new challanges, on top of buying 2 scrap cars you can say I was out for a bad start. Realizing that my job would never give any flexibility, or even let me reduce my hours for my health, I decided to leave the UK in May. After a year in England I embarked on a new journey to South Africa and enjoyed teaching and mentoring the heroes of tomorrow. I took the summer off to recover before spending 3 weeks volunteering around Ecuador, finding my spark back. I realized that the only way I could achieve freedom and respect within this profession would be to work for myself, and so I did. “Purple Vet Services” was created in October 2024, and will be my new career adventure going forward. Without these struggles and challanges, I would’ve never reached this realization and taken the step out into the unknown. Very excited to see where this will take me in 2025, so stay tuned and thank you for following my journey, it means a lot!💖💖 #freshstart #veterinarian

A tribute to all vets that are working over the holidays! Never take for granted the sacrifices your vets do for the greater good. This includes spending holidays in the ER instead of with family, sacrificing sleep and own health to help those in need, and working inconvenient times when most people are at home relaxing or embarking on hobbies/activities. It is a passion job and I wanted to send some love their way this christmas holiday 💖🎄 Healthcare workers are our angels without wings 👼🏻

How much carbs are in my pets wet food?

Why do pets need a smaller amount of kibble compared to raw food? I saw this question in a forum for pet owners and figured to make this video 😂👍🏻 Initially this will make them feel more satisfied and hydrated🙏🏻 Remember the water content if you use kibble toppers 🙌🏻

No wonder they cannot lose weight! Some wet food can be lower, but should be calculated to find the one with lowest amount of carbs. Other ingredients should be considered as well when choosing feed. A video on calculating this coming up soon! Most raw cat foods are very low in carbohydrates and makes it a lot easier to control their weight. I have seen good success with this in clinical practice. 🐱 What to keep in mind here is that some cats can be very picky, and transition can take many months. It’s important to never starve a cat, and the weight loss journey should aim for slow reduction of weight over a longer period of time. Nothing sponsored at the end there however this raw food brand is #Rawsafe batch tested!

Labels explained

🧬 BPAs and phtalates are heavily regulated in most countries for childrens toys, however not in pets.. It’s known to interfere with their endocrine system and has been linked to various health issues. 💉 Thimerosal (w mercury) vaccines were in 2001 stopped for use in children under 6 years of age due to upconsentrations. These are still used in rabies vaccines for pets of all sizes/age. 🩸 Red dye 3, together with brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate and propylparaben have been banned in most countries after being linked to cancer. Red dye 3 is still used in pet food and have been reported to cause asthma, migranes, eczema, thyroid cancer and lupus in humans. ❌Ethoxyquin, commonly used in canned pet foods, is banned in human foods even in the US due to its mutagenic potential. BHA and BHT have in numerous studies shown to be carcinogenic, decrease fertility and cause behavioural/learning disorders. These are all unfortunately still used in pet foods, but not listed on the package as it’s often added by the food supplier and not the manufacturer. What else should I have added to the list?💀
