Kahlua is a male Moluccan cockatoo who is approximately 31 years old. He came to stay with us in hopes of finding a home that can love him and give him attention while respecting that stepping up and being handled is a bit scary for him. Kahlua previously had a female avian mate who passed away many years ago. He has shown that he does like human companionship. He was with the same family for many years until his human female caregiver passed away after a long illness this year. As a result of his owner's long term illness, we aren't certain that Kahlua was able to receive much out of cage time and attention.

Despite all that Kahlua has been through, he is very sweet for the right person. He loves head scritches, attention, and playing with toys. He has discovered that he loves pumpkin birdy bread treats, fruit, and nuts. He has also converted to a healthy pellet diet. He is very gentle and has not attempted to bite or be aggressive with humans who respect and read his body language. He is scared of some males.

Like all cockatoos, Kahlua can be loud at times; but it is limited to short bursts when he wants attention or breakfast is late. Becaues of this, Kahlua will need to be in a freestanding home, not an apartment or condo. Kahlua will need frequent toy replacements (he loves his toys) and a human who can establish and stick to behavior boundaries, reward good behavior, and keep him on a schedule with predictable structure. They also need to understand he will need time and patience in order to be handled.

Kahlua had a full check up at the avian vet and is very healthy. He had previously plucked out his chest feathers. He has not exhibited any plucking activity since he has been with us in foster care.

Buckle’s wondering if those snacks are for him…

Buckle has been with us a long time and still looking for the perfect forever home. He would prefer a quieter home with a woman caretaker. Does this sound like a good fit for you or someone you know?

Cookie is a friendly and sweet cockatiel. She can be a little unsure when coming out of her cage, but once she’s out she doesn’t want to go back in! She loves climbing and walking around, but even more so, sitting on your shoulder to be high up and in search of a head scritch.
