Dexter!
Dexter in need of home or rescue!
1yr old neutered Belgian Malinois
Dexter had high ball drive. He is learning to โoutโ or drop the ball in reward for having another ball thrown. This is helping him with his resource guarding greatly. He knows sit, goes into his kennel easily, is working on his recall, and we are starting positive reinforcement food work with him. He is crate trained and as far as we are aware was house trained.
Dexter is learning the process of positive reinforcement training and it is a slow process. His previous training was ecollar only based (negative reinforcement and positive punishment). This has caused some confusion and frustration for him as his experience with training has been one where lots of aversive methods were used. Dexter has been cautious towards training but is coming around. He is learning that training can be enjoyable and fun.
Dexter is very reactive towards kids and can not go to a home with kids. He is an active boy and loves to play. While we are taking things slow Dexter is eager to participate and definitely longs to be able to have a trusting relationship with a handler. He has not been evaluated for tug work or bite work but I expect he would excel with some training in bite sports as well.
He has not been evaluated by us with other dogs. Previous owners said he did well at dog parks but we prefer a stronger relationship and higher obedience before beginning work with a group. I would say he would most likely be dog selective and not ideal with small animals or cats.
Current on vaccines and heartworm prevention.
The days are getting warmer so it was time for early morning games of fetch before the afternoon heat!
Running of the puppies! The boys were well ahead of them so they were very safe!
A little fetch at the end of the day! A beagle, a chihuahua, 2 shepherds, 5 Labradors, and a very fast Malinois!
Zazu doing a bit of retrieval work at the pet store! Heโs always so happy to be working!
