Last one for today and this could be my favourite so far.

2x FMC setups

Ingredients of the “Stack”

Kind of JohnsonSu insipired but read on…

2 layers of chicken mesh providing aeration to the outside of the pile

Black plastic to keep moisture and heat in.

Gap in the plastic at the bottom allowing convection to draw in cool air and vent warm air etc out the top

Stacked yesterday with the following ingredients…

Started a compost stack yesterday.

IMO3 from pile that went for about 4 days was too wet and went a bit anaerobic so I bailed on it.

IMO2 liquid
JMS
Jlf liquid
Jlf solids
Sawdust
Cooked rolled oats that’s been LIMO fermented 7 days
Unfinished compost of kiikuyu grass and other garden waste
60L of food scraps that had been left and turned 50% liquid (oops)
Heaps of “compostable” food scraps bags
Coffee grounds
Crushed old bamboo culms laid down in layers to assist with drainage

Wet down (think the bottom is a bit dry still)

Tomorrow I will drive some tomato stakes into the stack and give it some air tunnels

And then I will re-do my pile of unfinished compost

But will add…
2kg wheat flour
2kg wheat bran
2kg rolled oats
2L waste canola oil from cooking
The rest of the IMO3 failure
IMO2 liquid
JMS
Jlf liquid
Jlf solids
Sawdust soaked in LABS
700ml off funky LABS (left outside accidentally now smells like cured meats haha)
700ml of LABS made from IMO2 and milk
Unfinished compost of kiikuyu grass and other garden waste
Heaps of eucalyptus trimmings
And a half bale of hay that’s been in the chicken coop for about a month
Chicken bedding from nest boxes and under perch

Cover with branches and remaining bale of straw

I’ll scrape some of the Deep litter from the coop just for fun.

Oh and some horse p**p. Will be made into a liquid and used to wet down the mix

Cover with black plastic and wait…

Thoughts? Improvements?

Am I going Overboard? Ofcourse!

Just wait till I go pickup my bulk fish frames and 30t of woodchips dropped off 😂 the madness will only continue.

Ever tried a Fermented mixed compost… stay tuned. We turn our SLOW compost to microbial GOLD in just 20DAYS!

Pretty crazy colours in this little experiment…

definitely NOT the collection you want to see in your IMO1 box… but there may be some benefit to it yet.

Perhaps too much moisture in my rice… not enough air… but will try again and see what happens

This mess was still Turned straight to “IMO2” and will be used for a number of upcoming trials.

A technique used in the past by many, including i’m told Elaine Ingham of Soil Food Web fame.

Buried under an established and relatively untouched Eucalyptus tree to collect beneficial microbes for our plantation of eucalypt foliage plants.

Been a little busy and haven’t been sharing our farming over the summer - but we have been getting smashed!

! Over 1.3m of rain, that’s over our annual rainfall, in the first few months of the year it’s been a nightmare

But we have been working to get our processes nailed - collecting IMO, Making inputs, Composting, Farming Worms oh my

We have recently planted nearly 100 trees and we are now approaching Mid Autumn… so stay tuned for Autumn plantings, garden bed rehab, MORE trees, Microbes and more!!!

It’s been a while so here’s some samples of the beautiful blooms we are growing
