Colorado native and all-around animal lover, Cameron, is excited to share strategies he developed during his own personal journey with dog training. He apprenticed as an associate trainer with Chill Out Dog Training for over a year, and he specializes in aggression and leash reactivity. He finds it rewarding to visibly witness transformative results that are possible with the Chill Out Dog Training approach.

Cameron has always loved working with animals and even worked at an exotic animal store. However, his journey into dog training began when he adopted his dog, Bourbon. Bourbon demonstrated extreme food reactivity after he joined Cameron’s family. In fact, this was discovered when Bourbon bit his owner while attempting to take away his bone. Of course, this experience was frightening to both dog and owner. Cameron wanted everyone to feel safe around Bourbon as well as alleviate Bourbon’s anxiety surrounding food. After narrowing down the root cause of Bourbon’s aggression, Cameron was able to utilize various training techniques to build trust and alleviate anxiety. Through this difficult experience, Cameron learned the skills to help Bourbon build trust and “chill out.” Cameron trained with the owner of Chill Out Dog Training, Scott Ross, and developed effective and transformative skills that provide visible results. Now Bourbon is thriving alongside his owner and is a very trustworthy companion.

When Cameron is not dog training he enjoys the beautiful outdoors of Colorado. Much of Cameron’s time is spent hiking, camping, and soaking up nature. Not only is Cameron an outdoorsman, but Cameron can also be found crafting delicious cuisine. Cameron has an affinity for the culinary arts and the Denver team of dog trainers has enjoyed his delicious delicacies.

Puppy trainings are always full of treats, fundamental skills and of course FUN.

At around 2-4 months is the perfect time to start working on some basic skills like manners and building obedience vocabulary. If you want to up the challenge, go practice your skills out at a park around lots of distractions and activity 😉

When we say “we come to you” for training, that could be at your home, a local park, around the neighborhood…really anywhere!

The best place to train is in the real-world context where you’re experiencing challenges! Consider what your training goals are and choose a spot where we can jump in and see the misbehaviors live!

Taking a break in the shade! We’re often working outside with clients and their pups. Intermittent breaks in the shade help the dogs cool off AND gives us a chance to practice a “chilled out” state of mind.

Practicing sitting calm and composed is a big part of being a chilled out dog. Much of what we do is work on the dogs state of mind. A chilled out dog can walk calmly past other dogs, critters and humans. A chilled out dog, can calmly greet house guests or other furry friends. A chilled out dog ultimately gets to be included in more activities!

We LOVE working out “in the field” to nip leash reactivity in the bud!

But what do we mean by “in the field?”

It means we come to you and work within the context and with the challenges that you are facing. For some this is at the dog park, in the neighborhood, walking by that one house... but WHY?

We believe that results and change happen when we can observe the misbehavior in action and make real time adjustments, corrections and recommendations.

In this video, out “in the field” was walking around this couple’s active neighborhood which offered plenty of teachable moments for the dog and owner alike!

Smile, you’re on candid camera 📸 one of our go-to moves for separation anxiety is using FaceTime or baby cameras to observe the misbehavior in action to make our game plan. Then, use that same setup to start trying new methods for coping with the separation.

If you live in an apartment, condo or any living situation with shared walls, getting the call that your dog has been barking for hours never feels good 😕 By simulating that you’re leaving, you can put structures in place like the kennel, observe if it’s working, and quickly adapt to find the right fit!

Here we started out in the house, in a place command, but found that the crate with the addition of a blanket ultimately seemed to do the trick. We practiced for a short duration then increased the time from there.

We train with owners 1-on-1 to provide solutions to tricky behavior issues, like separation anxiety. We guarantee our results and your satisfaction. Give us a call or send us an email!

We’ve had a few new faces on here, but here’s one you’ll recognize! I’m Scott Ross, the owner of Chill Out Dog Training and a certified trainer (CPDT-KA) with the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers.

With over 5 years of hands-on training experience, I have worked with owners and their dogs to address an array of behavior challenges.

My journey into the world of dog behavior therapy began with my own German Shepherd mix, Gus (he’s out tan dog) who had uncontrollable, severe aggression towards dogs. I had to find a solution or totally change my expectations of having an includable social dog. Faced with a stark decision, I decided to try a new approach to training that included three key elements: walk before you run, high behavior expectations, valuable consequences for all types of choices.

Fascinated by the results, I took opportunities to work with dogs of friends and family and saw that the training was universal.

From there, Chill Out Dog Training was born with the purpose to help serious behavior cases quickly through our 3 element approach, direct owner coaching and owner empowerment.

Outside of work I can be found mastering the art of the grill, battle royaling with with buddies on Xbox, spending time with my wife and dogs, up on the slopes practicing moguls, or I might be at home reading the latest Brandon Sanderson novel.
