Spark’s otter toy was filled with a zillion little plastic balls! We had to say goodbye to Otter today. She had a good run, and her child lives on. ❤️❤️

My neighbor’s daughter, Eleanor, is selling puppy cookies at Charron Vineyards. Matilda has tried (broke in and ate two trays) them and approves! She gives them five paws 🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️

A lovely run today on the AZT in Sonoita. Brisco and Trigger were great running companions. Also saw a cute little patch nosed snake! Great day! ❤️❤️🐍

Yesterday’s drop-in rally class was a little different. With students wanting to play in other sports, we are now offering a first of the month drop-in obedience class.

Yesterday we did send to tables, change of position (advanced dogs did it at a distance), stay while other dogs practiced recalls, the AKC heeling pattern and more! Everyone really enjoyed it! ❤️❤️

Today at Rally Drop-in we’ll be doing obedience drop-in. This is to help our more ob focused folks get practice in. Any level of ob welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity to practice.

Going forward we will be offering ob drop-in the FIRST Monday of each month 3-5 pm. Every other Monday will be our standard rally.

Everyone will have an opportunity to work on whatever they wish

At an MSSA trial in Laveen. Cody ran open. The sheep are tough and need a super detailed dog. Not Cody’s strong suit. A lot of the open dogs struggled. I think Cody is sitting in fourth. Brisco played the n Open today since he’ll move up from Nursery in May. This is a piece of his run. He worked really hard, but the sheep were looking for any excuse to break, I called my run on the third escape. He handled the escapes really well, but I didn’t want to keep exposing him to sheep this committed to leaving. He did exceptionally well with these sheep.

So, I receive this text from my neighbor, asking me to convey tomorrow’s plans to Matilda.

Matilda, not having other plans, decided to take my neighbor up on the offer and showed up at her house at 7 am. She showed up, all by herself!

From there she went with my neighbor and her daughter, Eleanor, to a coffee truck in Sahuarita, where she had a pup cup.

From there she went to the vineyard and hung out with Mickey (neighbor’s dog).

She went for another car ride to pick Eleanor up at school, had more fun at the vineyard. She went home with the neighbors where she helped Eleanor with her homework, played outside in the snow, and even took a nap.

At 8 pm, I arrived home, Sara popped Matilda outside and she arrived home minutes later, all smiles wanting dinner!

Cody was semi-retired from herding. She’s 10 and a half. Because of several factors (early spay - before I got her - small bones, and poor foot conformation) she frequently finds herself foot sore after herding. She also has a much broader interpretation of my cues than I do, which means she puts the sheep where she knows they belong, verses where I think they belong.

For these reasons, she only trials a couple times a year for the past year or so.

She a trooper, though, and a fun pup to work with. To prolong her healthy working life she’s on supplements to help with her feet, and she gets a nightly foot massage.

This is her face as she gets her massage 🙄🤣❤️. Goofy beautiful girl! ❤️❤️

Tagg started rehab this morning. She’s a bit too enthusiastic about training again! We’re reintroducing the pivot bucket.

Spent the last morning of 2024 out with friends and dogs and sheep in the beautiful Sonoita grasslands ❤️❤️

Our run lasted 30 seconds. Working at distance is hard for young dogs, and when I asked Brisco to flank and the sheep skittered instead of moving off him in an orderly fashion like he expected, Brisco made the puppy decision to blast off in pursuit of the criminal sheep. There was no visible grip that I could see, but that behavior does not get rewarded. So I called our run. This will likely fix itself with maturity.

Matilda likes to go for walks with the neighbors. She isn’t allowed down by the sheep because of a long criminal history involving them. So, she sits at the top of the driveway and stakes out the neighbors, and when she sees them she goes past the sheep and goes with them on their morning walk. When they return after their walk she either comes directly home or hangs out at their house in the event something better is happening there. If it’s not, she returns home.

The battle rages on 🔥🦦

Luna has moved into my gold program for sports dogs. This was the maniac cattle dog with human and dog reactivity stemming largely from over arousal (bat sh*ttery). She’s come a long way and now we’re moving forward, putting her crazy to work! ❤️❤️

To make Tagg’s house arrest less boring, she gets to come downstairs and be tethered to the table where I sit. She still has complaints!
