We had... A day yesterday 😂
Those of you who follow us in the stories may have seen, yesterday morning we got up early to get to the animal hospital with Remus, only to strand on the side of the highway 20 minutes into our drive. With two dogs, of which one hyper puppy and one in a cast, at the side of a 100km/h road is no fun 🥲
After a good half an hour the car got onto a truck and were dropped off the highway at an unmanned gas station ⛽
Waited there for another idk, long time, for a mechanic to arrive, who wasn't able to fix it at the spot, so, another truck was called to bring us to the garage. (Man we love the ANWB they are always so friendly)
At the garage, the car was fixed. So after 4 hours we were on the road again! To the animal hospital, who still wanted to see Remus today.
Whelp. The car lost speeds again and we stopped at another gas station, waiting for a mechanic. Called the vet, sorry we're stranded again.
At this moment we bothered my dad and asked him to drive to us with my car to switch the cars, so he could take his back home if it was able to be fixed or help with it getting to the garage, so we could still make it to the hospital before the end of the orthopedic vet his work day.
After another hour or so, we were on the road again and finally arrived at the vet at 13.17. we were supposed to be there at 8.30 🥲

After Remus' checkup, which was ok, all seems good enough, we drive back home, super tired.
The rest of the day we scratched our schedule 😅

Remus is sleeping... 😴
So. X-rays were made and it was enough to see what's going on and what needs to be operated on. So no CT scan. His cruciate ligament might be intact after all but his outside collateral ligament is for sure torn. The inside one and the crusiate ones will be checken during the surgery 🩻
If I know anything more I will make another update post today 🍀
I am really thankful in you want to keep Remus in your mind today and send some positivity his way 🌱
The surgery will take several hours.

Baby's first time at the racetracks 🔥
Little Merlijn had a great time playing with the lure yesterday! The first time he was very confused still but was glad to be there, second time he started to understand the game 🥹
I'm so happy how he did! Such a good little dude, not talked aback by the motor at all, just pure fun 😄

A littlebit ago, on my dad's birthday, Merlijn went to the beach for the first time 🐚
It's safe to say he loved it! He can lean quite a lot on Remus and Remus adores the beach so... Yeah 😂
Of course he tried drinking the salt water, weirdly enough he wasn't totally taken aback by it 🧂 and just acted.liek it all was planned 😅 gotta love this 'extra' little dude.
We also met some galgos and overall had a great time 🍀

Just a phone picture of Merlijn acting like he owns the place and Remus doubting his life choices that got him to this place 🤔
I give both a lot of quality time with me alone and especially Remus really needs it. Merlijn is a lot, he is joyful, wants to explore everything, judges things, tries everything and does everything with 200% effort. Including zoomies, barking and chewing 😂 he is a joy but since I'm alone raising him I sometimes am close to losing all sanity. He is an amazing pup though.
Remus also doesn't dislike him but just finds him a bit much, which I can only say is justified.
I'm happy that my parents want to take Merlijn for a day and night every once in a while as the lack of sleep is also not making anything better. I never had these problems with raising Remus and I was in a way worse place back then. Remus just always kind of fit the mood I guess where Merlijn IS the mold ✨
Anyways. Just a phone picture. Hope to be able to share more stuff again soon!

Yesterday we went to look at some plants 🌿

Together with Human's friend we went to Burger's Bush to take a look at if some plants wete already flowering, this is for some blossom monitoring for the zoo so we had free entry 🌸 Human also had to chance to look up some plants for the study. Normally I find the Bush extremely warm but after Suriname it didn't seem so hot 😂
Merlijn stayed in the car for some hours and did extremely well, he had some training before our zoo visit on the parking lot, a lot of smells, cars and hyperactive kids. Merlijn is not officially in training yet so he was not allowed inside the zoo. He went to sleep in the car crate like the best boy until we returned.
The Zoo had an ice age theme going on and we also filmed some animal reactions as there were some interesting ones 🤭
And of course we found cool fungi 🍄

Afterwards we went to eat, play a game and tire out Merlijn, who also decided it was a great day for losing his first puppy teeth! All in all a good day.

How are you doing? ☀️ Enjoying the weekend?
We had our last come together with the Tropical Forestry class yesterday evening/last night, as everyone will now go their seperate ways. Some people we may continue seeing in some Spanish classes and others are off doing internships on the other side of the world 🌎 of course Remus joined and Merlijn came, too. He loved meeting everyone and after one and a half hour or so he had a good sleep 🤭

Today we took it easy, some training, walkies, and naps 😴

I'm so glad we had some sunny weather yesterday, it was much needed!
Can't wait for the days to be long enough so we have light again in the evenings and are able to do long walks later on the day in nature 🌿 (we're not allowed in most nature places in the Netherlands after sunset)

I don't want to say goodbye to the snow just yet! ❄️
Honestly I was so busy and overwhelmed the past few days that I just didn't get to post anything, but of course I still have some cute snow photos I want out here 😌

Today we go to the city center for a photoshoot, we had quite some shoots the past weeks and I'm just very grateful about it as Merlijn grows up so fast 🍀 can't wait to see the results!

Remus is also doing well, we are both tired but good. It's been a bit much lately but nothing we can't handle 😊 wishing you a good day today!

Little Merlijn loves the snow ❄️

Today we had some little outings, to the garden centre and their lunch cafe and meeting up with his little sister and mom for the first time since he went home with us ✨
He did great, better than expected really! At the garden centre they had quite some snow still and he was delighted 😄 does your dog love the snow?

Today we had the first photoshoot of the year 📸
And also Merlijn's first ever 😄 it was a good morning and the boys behaved well.
Merlijn is a bit in a 'some steps back' phase, he is still aving difficulties taking his rest and I still have to create him before he will lay down most days. But he is learning. I think we may need some more structure for a littlebit, which is kinda hard with my situation 🤭 but we will figure it out!
Merlijn does not want to put on a collar, harness or coat. Those are all stupid now at the moment. But without coat it's stupid cold 🥶
Yesterday Merlijn did not want to leave his crate so I left him at home and he is doing exceptionally well with staying alone 🤷‍♂️ so that's something! (And something Remus always had a lot of problems with)
So yeah, like everything in life, some things go well, others not so much 😊 I still can not show any decent photos, laptop still broken among other things. I hope soon 🍀
So here's just a little update post because I'm kind of sad I don't update so often as it's the growth of my dogs I love capturing and sharing (and reading back later). Hope you have a good weekend!

The weather is dry!
And there is sun 😱
Shocking right? It is cold but that's ok with us, we have layers and warm coats 😊 still no camera pictures though, but working on it! Please stand by. In the meantime I'll try my best to post half decent phone pictures every now and then.

Remus and Merlijn did great, Remus is fine with fireworks as long as he's indoors when it gets a bit much and Merlijn didn't care at all and still went out for a potty break at 23.00 😂

Today Merlijn got to see his first competition 🤩
Well, of course big bro Remus joined for support, a littlebit ago had the great idea to ask if I wanted to visit this hoopers competition with Merlijn for socialisation as it was very close by, ye of course! Since we don't practice hoopers I had no idea of the competition so I was super happy with the suggestion!
We went for a couple of hours, Remus and Merlijn were in the car for a bit too. Remus is a bit tired from the past few weeks (I mean, me too buddy), and he already finds the high energy dogs on competition days not too amazing so he was a bit all over the place without focus. When we went back home and Merlijn took a nap I had a nice walk with Remus 😊 now he's reloaded and ready for more playtime 😂
Merlijn did super, meeting people and Zorah, seeing all the dogs, hearing all the sounds and smelling all the smells 🐽
Tomorrow will be a whole other interesting day 🎆

There photos are made in different areas. I'll try my best to describe what's to see on each of them 🌿
1. Remus in the Ovia Olo forest, wearing his shoes, harness and goggles, trying his best not to be stung or bitten by things 🤭
2. Fungi and/or moss, I'm still not sure of the bigger green splotches are fungi but for the sake of this description we'll roll with it 🍄
3. A natural beehive in a tree near the kreek of Ovia Olo
4. Forest at JSOOC, Zanderij
5. Some snake that was judging us from a tree at the Brownsberg. We actually stopped to look at some big tree species when this little one was spotted 🐍
6. Air plants. In the Netherlands I pay for these. In Suriname they're about everywhere.
7. Bird nests in a mango tree in Ovia Olo, but these nests could be found in plenty of places! Such architecture 🪺
8. Moth of some kind that looked a lot like a leaf. Was very patient with me trying to take it's picture.
9. Photobomb by a hummingbird while photographing the sunrise at Brownsberg.
10. Mangos. Manjas in Suriname 🥭 not ripe yet, but when they are, so so yummy. Way better than the ones we have in the Netherlands.

A nap in the jungle 😴
During the days in Suriname Remus was smart enough to take naps while we're we're putting up transect lines. He wasn't allowed off his place and it was hot, sweaty and when walking it took quite a lot out of him so I'm so glad he was comfortable enough to nap in the forest! 🌿
I made sure he'd have a spot with as few insects as possible 🐜 and would put down his blanket.

We had an excellent sleep 😴
Remus still continuing it though 😂 today we go back home, there's a lot to do still and tomorrow it's time for school again. I feel like I could sleep all day!

On another note it's Sinterklaas today in the Netherlands, normally I love to do some present giving and taking pictures of Remus in Sinterklaas style but today I won't bother 🤭 I do give some souvenirs here and there though! So it's almost like Sinterklaas, right?

We're having a hard time adjusting to the weather, Remus is snuggled in a sweater underneath a blanket on the couch and I'm wearing my biggest cozy hoody 😊

Smelling ALL the smells 🐽 on the NTFP (Non Timber Forest Product) market today!

We went to Paramaribo for some looking (and buying) of Surinamese forest products. We also went to some souvenir shops to look at differences (packaging, marketing, prices and such) and had a nice rest and lunch before heading back to camp.

There was a possibility to stay in Paramaribo longer, and go back with a taxi or bus, we choose however to go back with the rented bus and be back earlier so we hopefully can enjoy this evening looking for some wildlife! 🐍 Who knows, maybe we find something!

All and all the day is good so far 🌿

The past two days Remus did great in the field. Yesterday afternoon he truly amazed me, tackling the fallen trees and branches like a champ. I feel like we're both slowly starting to get used to the rythme and the heat here, the climate sure is something else to what we're used to!
Yesterday evening we even had a little outing to wat h a football match ⚽ and it was nice to have a change of scenery. I don't know much about the sport but it was just nice to have a little outing with the group and it sure was gezellig 😄

Today we take it easier, we just went to the supermarket for food, where in the way back I snapped this picture with my phone. This afternoon we'll have some more study related things to do, but for now we take some hours rest. Remus is sleeping in his cooling vet next to the fan and I'm about to read a little and eat a bowl of rice 🍚

Tomorrow the plan is to go to Paramaribo for some hours, looking at the non-timber-forest-products they sell there and in the evening we'll have another lecture or excursion!

Remus - the movie 🎥
Oh how fun I had creating these 😂 also proving me that AI surely isn't capable of taking people's jobs (yet) 🤪 Firstly the generator didn't understand that a Windsprite was a dog breed, Silken Windsprite of Longhaired Whippet also didn't work and as I shared in the stories I had plenty of dogs with funny hairdo's popping up 💁 apart from the hair I had creatures, weird humanoids, extra legs, huge ears and whatnot appearing in the images! Also the generator seems to be have a problem with Remus' name. But overall I think these came out quite well! Which one is your favorite? 😄 please let me know in the comments!

Today we have the last classes before leaving on our study trip in two weeks. Human won't be attending any tests probably due to lack of classes followed, better use the time to get up to speed again! We had some problems the past few weeks but are trying our best getting everything back on track 💪 We still have a lot to do before our travels, fingers crossed everything will go well! 😊
