Well, hello! Happy Monday?

What a week, yeah? I know I’m not alone in struggling when plans change, and the fact that it’s taken me years to figure out my next steps professionally probably should not have been a surprise to me, but I’m also impatient to a fault, so like… we contain multitudes 🫠

Like:
1) I’m sad, frustrated, angry, and disappointed about the election.
2) I am now more determined than ever to live into my values because how else do we fix this??

And so:
The second half of my plan with Spotted Dog Studio is to offer business services. I’m open to artist commissions and writing services, but I also want to help people grow businesses that align with their life goals and values.

Because:
1) I think it’s pretty freaking important.
2) I’m kind of good at it 💁🏻‍♀️

All that to say- hit me up if you feel stale in your business bones and you’re not sure what you need to do to realign and grow ✨

Also this is Colby, he’s a dog walking client. 10/10 good boy and his feeties smell like Fritos 👌🏻

Hurricane Milton bears down on Florida as I type, with most of my loved ones in its path.
As a former Floridian, I know these storms well. But they’ve taught me that we all face our own storms - personal, professional, and literal.

This isn’t the post I planned for relaunching Spotted Dog Studio, but it feels right. My journey has led me to realize the importance of standing up for what we believe in, supporting each other, and creating positive change.

This is what I’m here for😍
If you have a vision for your dog’s cake/photoshoot/birthday party, I’m your person!
Truth be told, if you want something plain, or don’t have any ideas, or come to me saying “my dog loves to play, what kind of special cake can you make them?” We probably aren’t a good fit. I need specifics. I want details.
The best cake magic happens when you have a direction or a vision in mind, and we can work together so that I can bring that vision to life!

That’s what happened in this case. Momma sent reference photos of all his favorite toys, and a cake idea she’d seen and we were off and running! I just love how the photos came out and I loved working on this!

When you’re just a girl who loaves toast the most 🥹❤️
Happy decade to Jessie, who’s just the cutest little peanut. Her momma said a slice of white bread is her absolute favorite treat and I love her 😍

This week has been a hectic one- closed on the sale of my house Friday. Baked over the weekend, and then set about decorating cakes for the week only the hear water running… the drainpipe for my washer had gotten backed up and drained all over the kitchen floor 👌🏻
Thankfully my persistence in finding a private landlord has paid off and it was dealt with quickly but sheesh that’s a lot of water 😅
All’s well that ends well and all that ❤️

Happy National Dog Day 💖
These two are my heart.
Butters (who really only goes by Hammy) just turned 11 in June and this dog is such a sensitive soul. He’s slow to warm up to people, is easily unsettled by change. He’s a momma’s boy through and through since day 1, although it took me until he was around 5 to warm up to him, honestly. He has IVDD, so we deal with occasional pain flare ups, and all of that combined means he’s a high needs dog. He is also the *sweetest* boy and he has such a gentle nature. He is always by my side and I know he helps me regulate just like I help him. I jokingly call myself his emotional support human, but he really is the best buddy and I love the connection I have with him.

And then there’s Havarti! She’s my first dog! My best girl 💖
I was an absolute puddle the moment I held her. She is sassy and spunky and she’ll be 12 in October… I’m still waiting for her to slow down! This girl is clever, expressive, happy, playful… she will fetch a ball until…well, I haven’t found the limit yet 😂
She’s always up for an adventure, loves exploring, swimming, and is generally very social. When she rests, especially near me, it feels very sweet and special. She’s *such* a good dog. She’s also the girl who inspired my logo so I feel like she’s the real HBIC 😂

I’m so happy to celebrate them both today- they are such a big part of my life, as I know yours are to you! Happy furiends!

These are from last week, yet again, because I forgot to take a single picture from my projects this week 🤪
I finally have *all* my stuff at the new house (not just my work station, since that was priority #1) and it feels really good to be settling in. I feel pretty caught up on emails and messages and the projects that are midway I’ll be getting back to tomorrow morning. All that to say: reach out to me again if you feel like you should have heard from me!

✨New Home Base✨

Perhaps it’s been obvious that I’ve been going through some changes in my personal life. Now that I’m getting settled in a new space, it feels appropriate to share that for the first time in my life, I’m going to be living (and working) alone. Separating after a 20 year relationship isn’t easy, and the moving is one of the more stressful events we can go through, so finding moments of peace and respite lately has been difficult. But I know they’re coming. I’m finally getting settled in a new space, all my own, and I’m at once excited and deeply exhausted.
If you’ve waiting longer for a reply, or had trouble reaching me during this time, I apologize, and I hope to find myself back in a routine again once the dust has settled.

Thank you for your patience, and your patronage as I navigate this part of my personal journey.

‘Twas an intentionally light week since the holiday interrupts the flow of business AND because I’m in the process of selling my house and there’s quite a bit to do related to that process. I sure did enjoy these cakes though, I always love the painted designs so much 🤗

These treats are headed out to celebrate the life of Ichabod Dane, a Great Dane who made it to 10 years (!) and who’s time on this earth is coming to end. Friends, I never take these jobs lightly. In general, making cakes and treats to celebrate your pup’s birthdays and holidays is light hearted and I love getting to work with y’all on the perfect design to express your dogs personality and reflect your relationships…but the jobs where it’s meant to honor their life really hit me in the feels and I’m always so so honored to be a part of helping you celebrate not just a milestone, but their entire life journey. Here’s to Ichabod Dane, I know his memory will be treasured forever 💙💚

Last week was BONKERS busy! The thing about running a business is it’s always something. 😂
Changing the structure meant letting go of the platform I’d been using for years and knew like the back of my hand (bye bye Shopify!) in favor of doing things manually…which got old REAL quick so now I’m bumbling through learning a new system that I just *know* will be fabulous but I’m not there yet 🫠
(If anyone has tips for hmu)
All in all, I took on 12 orders last week (😱) and these are a few of them! I’m booked up until mid April and it’s a very good feeling! If I can get the order taking and paperwork part streamlined, my plan is to be able to take more orders each week (going from 8 to 12-16, ideally) so fingers crossed that works out soon! I don’t like telling people no 😭

Ps, how much to we love the fabulous 😍😍😍

Another full week! It’s seeming like 8 orders a week is a nice rhythm for me. It’s gives me time to give each order the attention it deserves and I’m happy with what I’m able to provide as a result. If you have any questions about the process, let me know!

A story of a little spotted dog...

In 2011, Havarti (the sweet Spotted Dog our little bakery is named after) was born and from the second she and her human met, there was something special there. A former “cat person,” Jen Mello fell under Havarti’s spell, and now here we are with 3 dogs and a dog bakery. Jen previously baked for humans, and while that was fun…the chance to bake for our beloved dogs seemed like the perfect way to combine all the best parts of life. We believe there are good dogs everywhere. We want to help you celebrate them.
