Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue SWFL House Rabbit Rescue is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of domestic rabbits through education, advocacy, and adoption.

We strive to elevate the status of domestic rabbits to the level of other indoor companion animals. Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue was founded in 2015 with a mission to bring "Respect for Rabbits.” We strive to elevate the status of domestic rabbits in our society to the level of other indoor companion animals. Our rescue works with local animal services, community members, and rescue partn

ers to rescue rabbits from abuse, neglect, hoarding, and abandonment. We are dedicated to saving the lives of domestic rabbits through exceptional education, advocacy, and adoption. Thumper and Sandy are once again available for adoption. They were returned to FANS a few weeks ago through no fault of their own. Thumper is a lover and is a bit of a lap bunny. Sandy is a little more laid back and just likes to hang out. They are both litter box trained (as much as a bunny can be trained) and fixed. His new family said Anden has been sharing his room with Louis since he came to us. 🤩Kinsley is my daughter, she is the one who saw the Facebook post, contacted, with my help, the woman who saw him roaming outside. She’s the one who gathered the supplies, and actually captured him. I am very proud of both of them.❤️

🚨🚨Please consider signing this petition to end the sale of rabbits at Petco stores. A link to the petition can be found at the bottom of this post. Most of these pet stores do not look out for the best interests of the rabbits. They are only trying to make a profit off of them and don't consider the type of home the rabbit will be sold into.

Anybody who has ever been inside a pet store and seen a rabbit in there knows just how neglected they can be in these stores. They are almost always imprisoned in cages that are not the proper size to allow the rabbits space to stretch their legs, may be living in the same space as other small furry animals, and rarely get the sort of diet that rabbits need in order to get all of their nutrients. And don't forget that the rabbits will be on display right next to those tiny, tiny wire cages for sale that are nowhere near large enough for a rabbit to spend their life in, encouraging this type of environment to new rabbit owners.

Pet stores like Petco tend to sell rabbits to first timers who have no idea about the commitment they are entering in to when they take the rabbit home. They do not educate the new owners about the proper way to care for a bunny or give them warning about the vet costs that come with owning a rabbit. Pet stores will advertise rabbits as easy, first-time pets, but anyone who owns a rabbit and properly takes care of them knows this is not the case.

Selling rabbits in stores like Petco is just a recipe for giving a rabbit an unpleasant life. When the stores sell rabbits like this, it is extremely common for the rabbits to be dropped off at rescues/shelters or just abandoned outside to fend for themselves.

We got a message from a very worried shopper at Rural King that saw him in a cage. She thought his legs might be broken.
