Dinner is served… through #scentwork container practise 😋 what do you do when you eat raw? Eat from a spoon like a gentleman of course!
23 containers, 5 hides
We’re working on excellent level container searches which consists of more and different types of containers and food distractors.
There are a couple of challenges in this line search:
- Number of containers
- varying size/type of containers
- Distractors like food, smelly shoes, bluetack, qtips and toys
- a hide on the floor between the containers
- open door on one end to let the breeze in
- hide in the first container
- me walking up and down the containers to set up the camera
Here, the goal was to see how he performs in all those challenges and what we will need to work on more.
I know he has a tendency to blow past the first container so I was not surprised he missed the first one (something we need to work on more). But what I discovered was that when there are objects of different heights, he skims past the lower ones and focuses on the bigger more obvious ones. He missed the one in a little pouch twice .
So it’s something we need to work into our training more and it’s something to remember in a trial setting too!
Dancing practice! Very early days where we are testing our moves to the music. Can we match the timings? Does it flow nicely?
My space is a bit small so we are limited but it gives me a good idea on how the bits and pieces will look and if we need to add, remove or change anything. 💃🏻
Rufus’ Excellent Interior Scentwork Search
A snippet of our excellent interior #scentwork trial video
So many learning outcomes from this. During the search I just remembered having a plan to clear the area before we moved onto the next one. (There was another corridor on the right to search) So I knew I wanted to be detailed and needed to manage it that way.
I didn’t fully understand why Rufus was following the odour the way he was but I was aware enough to know that he was on odour and the only section he has not properly checked was the top shelf section.
But after watching the video, I realised of course! The vending machine was on and it would have been sucking air towards it. This was run at night, the temperature pretty cool and still, so the odour would have been falling. The team before us would have also been working the area so the odour would also have been pushed around and caught on the lattice and floor.
During our last excellent search I wasted too much time and didn’t manage us as a team properly. But I possibly over compensated on this search by over handling 😅 I’m glad I have a video to learn from.
So many firsts for us during this search. Higher hides, big group of spectators, food distractors and being brave enough to clear the first area when you don’t know if there are 1 or 2 hides in there. But we did it!
Guys!! We’re finalists in @ziwipets tricks comPAWtition and today is the last day to vote! If you have 1 minute to spare please vote for us.
Although hooman says I have too many treaties already, I disagree. Plus, you can NEVER have too much Ziwipeak! How else will I learn to improve my drawing skills?
If you vote you also go in the draw to win some of your own treaties too!
