I have read this 1000s of times and today what hit me was the word “DISMAYED”: a strong feeling of fear, worry, or sadness that is caused by something unpleasant and unexpected. The disappointed feeling.

Bible scholars say:
God is speaking with tenderness here, telling us NOT to look around as one might do in danger or in a state of alarm.

Joshua 1:9
