😘😘It does our heart good to rescue all types of dogs, young ones, senior ones, scared ones, timid ones, happy and sad ones. This story will make you sad initially, but it has a very happy ending. Heidi who is at the helm of our DAP branch in Canberra sent me a message yesterday about a little old dog called Tony who was dumped on the side of the road.......read on.

Meet Tony ❤ it took a village today to get Tony to us under duty of care. Tony was left in extreme heat yesterday on the side of the road, locked in a tiny cat carrier, it is a miracle he was found by a passer-by in time. He is old and moth-eaten and very, very sweet. Also surprisingly quick, I keep misplacing him 🤣 Huge thank you to Eloise, the vet who checked him and advocated for rescue to take him, Carly who keeps adopting Chihuahuas from us and reached out last night, the pound who just adored him and kept him comfortable overnight🤣 and Carrie who also knew he was meant to come to us. He is under duty of care for seven days while we see if his owners come forward. But for now, he is a DAP dog, and he is perfect.

Croquet has been at the animal shelter since 8/9/2023

Croquet is a beautiful however shy cat. As her days at the shelter go by she is getting more confident with attention and affection from the staff. She is even finding she quite enjoys a good chin scratch.

Despite being shy she is a curious little miss and likes to keep a watchful eye from her condo at what is going on around the cattery.

Croquet would be more suitable for a quiet home as she is not a big fan of loud noises. We believe Croquet will blossom in a home environment away from the hustle and bustle of the shelter. Croquet is a great age to shape into a loving companion and is still very adaptable.

Asha has been at the animal shelter since 3/2/2023

Asha is a stunning little lady who has come in leaps and bounds during her time with us and is now ready for her forever home!

When Asha first came to us, she was timid and overwhelmed. With a warm, loving hand, Asha slowly but surely started to come around enjoy having people around.

With some time, love and care, Asha has blossomed into a sweetheart of a cat who is just starting to come out of her shell and enjoy gentle pats around her ears and chin - who knew pats could be so good?

Asha is truly a beautiful cat inside and out; she is as fluffy as she is pretty! She enjoys snoozing in her big fluffy bed, stretching out on her scratching post and of course relaxing in a nice, sunny spot when the sun shines in her enclosure.

Asha would best suit a calm, indoor-only home with a patient, loving family who would have the time and patience to help Asha continue coming out of her shell.

🏠DELPHI IS LOCATED IN SYDNEY.
🌺Delphi is a 12-month-old Poodle or Poodle cross; we are not sure! Delphi is another dog who has come from a not so good place and is still a little timid, she is getting better every minute though. Delphi is still very much a puppy who loves to play with toys and the other dogs in her foster home. She has not been taken on walks just yet but with time I am sure she will do fine on lead sniffing and enjoying her walks. Delphi has just been groomed, I think it was a first for her and she really didn’t enjoy it very much at all, with a groomer who has patience she will grow to enjoy her grooming experience. Delphi would love a home with a family who have older children and another dog to play with, she is coming out of her shell and will become the best little dog for a nice family. We laugh at her constantly when she looks at us with her cute little face and shows the whites of her eyes! she throws her food and toys in the air and has a jolly old time with anyone who will acknowledge her.

🌺Delphi’s new home will be with understanding people who don’t raise their voices and are prepared to have a very cute little doggie who needs time, training, and lots of love. Delphi is not completely toilet trained just yet but is learning, her coat will grow and require grooming, bathing, and brushing. She is a housedog and must always have access inside and out. We would also like Delphi's new home to be with a family who will not go out to work and leave her alone for hours at a time.

👑Meet Charlie our beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel aged approx. 1 year. Charlie is another of our rescues who has come from a bad situation, due to his living conditions and the lack of human interaction he received in his previous home Charlie is very timid. He is currently living in a home where he is free to go in and out of the house, he has a spot on the couch where he sleeps, sits, and watches everything going on around him. Charlie is nervous but once he gains your trust, he enjoys pats and a soft voice telling him what a good boy he is. Charlie will become more confident as time goes by, but for now he needs a calm environment, without young children, and with people who know how to gain his trust and go slowly with him. Once he has found the right family who know how to handle a timid dog, I believe he will become more confident and an extremely faithful companion. He is fine with other dogs not really taking any notice of them now, he was groomed this week and behaved like a thorough gentleman. Charlie loves to go into the garden having a good sniff, he is also progressing with his toilet training.

🥒🥒Meet Gherkin our one-year-old, long-haired Chihuahua. He weighs 3.5kgs and is available for adoption in Sydney, Canberra, and the Newcastle area. No interstate adoption enquires please. Home checks are done for all our dogs going into foster care or a new home. When Gherkin arrived into care he was terrified and reactive to all of the new people surrounding him, he still occasionally cowers when an arm is raised too quickly but with love and reassurance, he can now go for a walk without barking at strangers. Gherkin adores his extended foster family (grownups, children, cousins, dogs, the cleaner, babysitters, and regular visitors) he can be territorial but as all of you know if you have had or have another Chihuahua it goes with the breed! Gherkin has almost completely overcome his initial separation anxiety and can now be left alone with his doggy siblings for a few hours at a time. He will need reassurance when settling into a new home environment but with dog company, A MUST!!! love, and patience he is capable of relaxing and self-soothing. He is a very clever boy and has learnt to sit, stop, go to bed, plus ‘quiet’ ‘treat’ and ‘hop in the car’ in a short amount of time.

🥒🥒As well as being handsome, Gherkin is incredibly cuddly, he loves a warm lap and a scratch on the head, he will thrive with someone who is home most of the time and can give him all the love he needs. Gherkin is medicated for anxiety which has really helped him to relax into the pack. He is happy in the car and doesn’t suffer from car sickness. He loves to play with his Pomeranian foster brothers. Gherkin is an inside dog who always needs access to indoors. Her chooses to sleep in his own bed but jumps up on the big bed in the morning for cuddles. Gherkin is house trained and motivated by food.

🥒🥒Gherkins foster family will be very sad to see him go but are excited for him to find his own people. Remember, he must go with another dog similar in size to himself, and we would love to see him go with a Chihuahua experienced family. UPDATE

Nashi is now in care with our friends at Maggie's Rescue as they had an available foster carer. We are so very grateful to be able to work with them to support each other🙌🙌🙌

💗🐕URGENT PUPPY CARER NEEDED PLEASE🐕💗

We have a 14 - 16 week old French Bulldog mix puppy coming into care tomorrow on an urgent basis. She does not have a name yet, so we have named her Nashi 🐶💓

We understand that she has lived with another dog and a cat previously.

Basic requirements in foster home

🐕 Sydney-based carer with access to a car to get to our rescue vets in Beverly Hills as needed.

🐕preferably a foster home with at least one other well-adjusted dog who can be a role model for Nashi

🐕 A home with a secure garden or courtyard is preferred, it's important that Nashi has a safe and secure outside area for toileting and exploring until she is fully vaccinated

🐕 A carer that is kind and gentle and has the time to work with Nashi.

Nashi is at a very important stage of her life, so she needs a foster home who will be committed to Nashi's ongoing puppy training using only force-free, reward based training methods. Support can be provided if needed, but experience with raising pups is preferable

🐕 a home with children over about 10 years of age would be ok provided they are gentle and respectful of animals.

🐕 A home that will permit her inside at all times, sleep inside and cuddle on the couch of course.

🐕 a home where carers are not away from home for long periods of time as she is only young she will need to be fed 2 or 3 times a day.

🐕 Good communication: we always seek carers who are easily contactable and can efficiently provide regular updates as needed.

We will, of course, provide any support needed, including vet treatment at our expense

CAN U HELP?
We are looking for an urgent foster carer/ potential adopter preferably with bird experience for this beautiful alexandrine parrot!
This sweet bird loves nothing more than to sit on your shoulder and have a chat with you. Birds require just as much care as cats and dogs and need A LOT of enrichment. Their diet's are mostly fresh fruits and veggies mixed with an appropriate pellet mix. they require different sizes of branches and some foraging toys.
We are unsure of the birds age and s*x but our vet's believe it to be quite young.
