Hey yall, in light of all the buzz around holidays and sales and whatnot, I’d like to remind everyone that myself and Roy Arthur Blodgett host a podcast called Project: Herpetoculture.

The podcast started as something fun and exploratory and has evolved into something of real value and passion. We have big goals for the future of the show and are excited to announce a few things at the top of the New Year, but with that said we can only continue to produce the show support from others that value our work. The cost of 1 cup of coffee per month really helps us do what we do, so if you value the show please consider tipping us with a patron membership.

Over the weekend I took some record photos of my adult Egyptians. While I haven’t measured or weighed each in a while, they are in 32” boxes in these pictures if that gives you an idea.

U. ocellata pair. Probably still a bit too young/small to breed, though I love this stage in their growth. Particularly I enjoy the cleanliness of the pattern on the male.

The first Uromastyx of 2023 have started hatching. These are Moroccan Uromastyx from a clutch laid oddly enough in December.

This 2022 Ornate is looking like his old man only a bit better :) It’s taken years of waiting to find one of his sons that looks like him. Hopefully he can carry the torch.

A hilarious image sent to me by of one of his Thomasi (hatched here) getting intimate with a strip of lettuce! I’ve seen this sort of behavior in other reptiles, as I think we all have, but I’ve yet to see it in Uromastyx until now. Hilarious! Dean makes stunning enclosures for his animals as you can see on his page. Thanks for sharing Dean!

Elegance. Clean and even structure, shiny scale sheen, little to no visible excess body fat…couldn’t be happier with the way this animal has matured. She hatched here 3 or 4 years ago.

Two groups of U. Thomasi holdbacks. The first picture are 2022 hatch and the second are 2021, although there is 1 in the second pic from 2022.

And just like that, xenagama eggs! These were laid by the female I showed digging a nest in a reel a few days ago. If these hatch these will be the 3rd generation of this species hatched at my place. Neato!

Green Ornate vs Blue Ornate comparison of 8 month old CB males. The green male has yellow that’s really challenging to capture, it’s like a highlighter yellow.

This tank of male U. Yemenensis gets better looking every year. I did not hatch any of this species last season so I’m hoping to make up for that in 2023 with a few clutches, this fella better put in work 🙃

This female U. Thomasi I hatched in 2021 has been steadily adding size. She has some strong spinal stripe color and although not seen from this angle, some great blue on her chin much like that of a male.

Moroccan Uromastyx hatched here in 2021. I didn’t expect the face/chin banding in these. Although it’s a cool feature I expect it’ll fade as it matures and develops more color and pattern.

This may be obvious to most but I’ve been thinking about this sort of thing with regard to jiu-jitsu all week. I can’t help but find parallels between martial arts practice and Herpetoculture.

Scale update for The Chop (aka Porkchop aka the GOAT aka The Lizard Wizard aka King Chop). I wear a size 11.5 shoe if that helps with scale. Egyptian Uromastyx because so many ask even when I put it in the post 😂
