Growing up and always living on properties, that my beloved pop worked on as a gardener and butcher, sowed the seeds for my love for the country life. We were not wealthy, and technology was nearly non-existent, only a radio in the morning and the TV on at night. My time was spent outside playing with the cat’s - dressing them up as I only had one doll!!! They would be dressed in old baby clothes
to join the tea party, not so sure the cats loved it, but when your arms are jammed in a baby dress you can’t go too far!! We always had orphaned lambs to feed and usually a rabbit or two and I was always getting in trouble for bringing home unloved or injured animals! As there were road trips picking up goats, chooks, ducks and anything else that needed my love and care! I don’t think I can ever remember a time that I have not had an animal in my life and to me the three things I could not live without, other than my family of course! - would be animals, plants and space. I could go the rest of life without having my hair done or buying a new dress, but I think I would be truly sad if I didn’t have a menagerie of animals, or be able to look out the window and see roses blooming in my garden. So, 8 years ago we bought our completely bare 25 acres and, in that time, we’ve put up the big shed that we lived in for 4 years, built the house and are now landscaping the garden. It’s been a long hard journey, and we’ve always struggled finding the time to spend on the property as we’ve worked multiply jobs just to pay for the things we needed to do on the farm. Now for the first time in what feels like most of my life I am just working one job, the kids are nearly finished school, and I feel it’s time to try to do something special with my little piece of the world. So ‘Angels in Overalls’ here we go!! My goal is the sell little bits of the things that I love; a few eggs from my beautiful girls, some homemade soaps from the herbs and flowers we grow, maybe some jam and honey, and to share ideas and recipes made with our produce. This is the start of the journey and as the time goes on hopefully you will see ‘Angels in Overalls’ grow; see pictures of the new animals that come to live at Dunbar Farm, and enjoy our journey of the simple life in our beautiful country of Australia.
