I SAID WHAT I SAID. BUT HEAR ME OUT.
Now, Iâve coached heaps of puppies and people and bearing in mind we know what we do in puppyhood directly impacts the adult dog they grow in toâŚ
âŚwe need to be focusing on the important stuff, the stuff that builds a bond and their confidence. I donât just mean the puppies confidence either! So many people feel theyâre failing after class, because their pup (or them) can't focus theređĽš
We need to normalise that puppy class isn't right for all puppies! The priority should be to ensure our puppy makes the best possible progress, and skills are broken down and are easy to follow, so puppy parents can replicate it at home.
Otherwise whatâs the point?!
Puppy classes should not be sending people home feeling like they've failed.
People should feel like theyâve got a SUPER PUPPY!
Did you do puppy class with your pupper?? Howâd you go?

đž "Should I take my new puppy to the dog park?"
Hereâs the truth: Dog parks can be overwhelming for puppies because they often involve:
Unpredictable interactions with unfamiliar dogs.
Rough play that could scare or hurt your pup.
Risks of injury in a crowded, often uncontrolled space.
A safer way to socialise your puppy:
Arrange one-on-one playdates with calm, well-socialised dogs.
Choose smaller, quieter spaces for short, positive experiences.
Gradually build confidence with controlled social interactions and new environments.
Your puppyâs safety and confidence always come first. Start small, go slow, and help them thrive.

Training doesnât have to be a formal event! I find it hard to make set times for things, so to make it easy, I try to just reward sht I like as it happens.
Peanut, is a counter-surfing pro! Instead of constantly battling this, Iâve turned food prep time into a fun training opportunity.
Now, whenever food is in the kitchen, we make it more profitable for him to keep those sneaky little paws on the floor. I donât give a sht if he sits either, but he has chosen to do this as he waits anyway.
For this to work though, you must also commit to keeping those worktops clear or blocking access.
If life is super busy and you think you might accidentally leave a toast crust or two⌠just keep it easy and block access entirely. Baby gates or keep the door closed. (We are open plan so for me this wasnât an option.)
It takes time, but the little victories are worth it. Each snack on the floor reinforces his good choices.
By integrating it into our daily routines, it makes it easier for me and consistent for Lilâ P
Getting a new doggo is hard, what do you start on first, will I do the right thing? But keep it up, dog peeps! Youâve got this.

Meet Peanut
I thought this had cross posted from Insta!!
MEET PEANUT!!
We welcomed this little fellow into our home on Saturday.
We have very little info on him. Other than, heâs approx 18months old, mixed breed. Heâs teeny at 13kg. He came into the pound with another dog and no chip.
Lots of emotions here. Especially when we opened a box with Jacks mat in it and he climbed in and sat on it. Bless him.
I hope we can do this beautiful timid little soul justice.
Heâs a counter surfing, death farting, zooming, teenager. The tv blows his mind, as do sudden noises and his own reflection.
Heâs super smart, a problem solver, scared of hands, a keen explorer.
I look forward to our life together.
And so it starts again đĽ°đ
At 4months old this was only Gypsyâs second lesson but we'd been prioritising all the key life skills she needed, and settling in public is a lifeskill!!â
â
If youâre unsure when to up that level of distraction for your dog, this is a good benchmark⌠wait until they bounce back to it automatically, as soon as youâve thrown a snack off it.â
â
Teaching your dog to settle, for me, is key life skill.â
â
Practicing that skill and slowly raising the level of distraction, should be in every dogs 'training curriculum'.â
â
You will then be able to take to more places, like cafes, picnics etc so that your dog knows whatâs expected of them. The mat is out, we settle there and get rewarded for being a champ! Easy peasy!â
â
Settling on a mat is mutually exclusive to jumping up, running at the front door, becoming over excited, stealing food from worktops and the list goes on...â
â
đŹLet me know what you think in the commentsâŚâ

đPUPPY BITING! HELP!!â
â
Tag in or share with someone who has a new puppy and needs help with their adorable little Land Shark đâ
Is your puppy chewing up your boots or using your hands and feet as chew toys? It hurts right!?
Now, a level of puppy biting is normal, they need opportunities to chew to help with teething, but excessive puppy biting is usually a symptom of something else.
One of the most common reasons I see is a tired puppy.
If your puppy has episodes of frenzied biting and redirecting them on to a toy or chew doesnât work, then itâs very likely their sleep routine or food is out of whack, and needs adjusting.:
đ´ NAPS
A puppy should be resting 20+ hours a day! Yep you read that rightâŚ20+ hours! But if the house is busy, they stay awake to join in the action and quickly become that over-tired bitey pup. But getting them to nap is hard right? They often need their own quiet bedroom to be able to settle.
Plus...
đś CHEWING
Chewing soothes puppies, and if they are also teething, it is essential they have plenty of chewing opportunities. Making sure they chill before you put them down for nap helps massively.
You need a settle routine, one that becomes the cue for nap time. I have the perfect one in my Super Puppy Club, my clients say it makes a huge difference when their pup gets quality naps in!!

FLOPPY EARS HELP SNIFFING!
Thereâs a reason for floppy ears!
Did you know that floppy ears are believed to be floppy to help dogs smell?!
âHuh?â I hear you say!
Itâs true! When a dog has their head down sniffing, their ears fall forwardâŚ. and those big ânose curtainsâ act as a fan to funnel the scent up to the nose area.
(Which is called the rhinarium! Imma say that word again and again because I love it).
Which is why most of those dogs weâve bred to primarily use their nose for us, like beagles, bloodhounds or vislas have floppy ears.
Itâs no coincidence that the 2 come together.
Ps that doesnât mean that pointy ears canât do scent work!!! All dog snoots are superbly powerful.
They can detect a teaspoon of sugar in 2 Olympic size swimming pools⌠thatâs with or without the ânose curtainsâ đ¤

đžHarnesses = The sworn enemy of loose lead walking!! Right?đ¤
đThe Epic Saga of harnesses turning dogs into Olympic standard pullers goes onâŚ
đšPulling: Itâs All in the Harness:
Yup, itâs official. Harnesses are equipped with secret codes that instantly transform dogs into pulling experts. Say goodbye to training or consistency â itâs all in the harness. The rest is just doggy magic.
đšSafety, Schmafety:
Safety? Bah, overrated.
Please, tell me more about harnesses being the sworn enemy of safety. I mean, who needs a harness that doesnât twist your dogâs neck into a pretzel when they dare to move?
đšFreedom from Fun:
Of course, letting your dog explore without the fear of choking is way overrated. I mean, itâs way more important to stifle their curiosity and why not throw in heeling for the whole walk too? We all know that walking with comfort and joy is just a cover for world domination.
đšPositive Vibes? Nah!
Loose lead walking with a harness, yep, thatâs defo a gateway to world domination. Your dog will instantly morph into a tyrant, totally ignoring you or snacks. Who needs teamwork when you can have a power struggle, right? đ
đNow that Iâve unveiled the real story behind harnesses, go ahead and spread the word. Let everyone know that itâs not about comfort, safety, or positive reinforcement â itâs all about your dogs secret pulling agenda and world domination. Share with fellow dog lovers who like a wee dose of sarcasm! đžđ¤ˇââď¸đ

GET A CALM DOG ANYWHERE!
With our dogs we often inadvertently create or only train calm at home⌠but as soon as the dogs is outside thatâs (OFTEN HIGH OCTANE) PLAY TIME.
Because of this, I see many dogs who are unable to relax or calm themselves when out and about. They have just one mode when outdoors⌠MODE:ON!
The idea of taking that dog or puppy to a Cafe or public place where they need to be calm, often fills their human with dread.
But this doesnât often need to be a big dog training exercise. If you want things to change⌠Simply start practicing calm outdoors with your dog. If you have a puppy, do this as part of your weekly exercise too.
That could be as simple as picking a spot on your walk, where you just sit down with your dog or puppy and relax for 1minute then calmly move on.
My top tips for this would be:
đDo it on the way back home after energy has been spent and sniffing has been done.
đAt the start always select the same calm spot. Achieve calm there before adding another calm spot.
đReward highly for calm.
đDonât use a circular route or every where will will be ânewâ. Practice after you double back to an area theyâve already explored.
đRelax yourself too! Donât try this if youâre also finding it difficult to chill that day too. I hope this is helpful.
