The Super Friends acting like some wild maniacs today…
We get asked a lot about playing tug with dogs. Is this ok? Will it just teach them to take things away from you? Playing games like this can be fun for the dog and are fine as long as the owner controls the action. You have to be the referee and it starts and stops when you say. If you play tugging games correctly you can go a long way towards establishing a good “give” command that will work later when they have a hold of a shoe or something else they shouldn’t!
Tory walking like the perfect little angel she (usually) is. Notice how the leash is not tight. You want to have slack in the leash the whole walk unless you are giving a quick tug to direct or correct. If there is constant tension and you are just in a tug of war with the dog both you and your pet will just associate the whole process with stress. If you are having trouble with this with your own dog let us know!

“Excuse me, you have my toy…”
Tory’s first swimming lessons… it’s a little scary once you get in the middle of the river and can’t touch bottom but you do what you gotta do to get that ball!
We often get asked where the dog should be during a walk. Ultimately unless you are trying for obedience titles there isn’t a requirement to be super dogmatic about this, but Tory is giving a good demonstration of a reasonable goal for most owners. If you can get your dog to walk right even with your side with the leash slacked like this you are likely to be able to avoid other issues like reactivity to dogs or people on the walk. If you are having any problems with this let us know!
Our buddy Durzo needed some practice not showing barrier aggression when people are at the gate to his yard. We’d say this is a pretty good job.

Bailey doing a good job with her leash walking…. She stayed with us the last week to work on this and a couple other issues and did great!
Lizzie doing a good job with some basic obedience…
Three minutes with another dog distraction accomplished no sweat, a little sample at the end here… Good job Rocky!
Rocky has to be able to sit still for three minutes to pass his next obedience test. This is tough when you get bored with it after three seconds, but he’s trying…
Sitting still is just the hardest thing for Anna, she has so much energy! We are proud of her for getting so much better on her stay despite how bad she wants to wiggle around.
New puppies we got to see this weekend, half siblings of our Sugar (same mother).
