Tory went out to the country to meet a dog that has had some bad problems with fighting with another female dog in the past. It was so much fun to see them get along and play games together! So often people give up on their dog being able to make friends. Almost always, with proper introduction and precautions for safety, aggression issues towards other dogs can be overcome. It’s sad that so many dogs have one issue or get into a fight one time and then are deprived of social contact of the rest of their lives. Dogs are pack animals! It is normal and good for them to have other dogs for friends and most dogs can learn to, at the very least, coexist with pack mates.

Our puppy Bob is nine months old now and we figured it is high time he do some obedience practice outside of the comfort of his own yard. Pretty good first try! He tried to chase that bird but that gives a good opportunity to show how you correct a failed stay. Make the dog go back to the same spot and do it over until they do it right. Unlike our Rottweilers, American Bulldogs are not known for being obedience wiz kids, so this shows that any dog can do this with practice!

Should dogs be allowed on furniture? Bobby thinks so! We get asked this a lot and the answer really depends on the owner and the dog. If you do decide to allow it, make sure the dog is respectful, doesn’t get all over people who don’t want them to, and gets off when they are told.

Watching a puppy grow up is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as a dog owner. Our Bobby is 7-months-old now and turning into a big boy! This process happens faster than you think though, so don’t neglect training because they are ‘just a puppy’. Pretty soon those puppy behaviors will turn from cute to unmanageable in a large breed adult.
