Pond top tip 💡

Fertilising your pond plants can help in the battle against algae. In the summer 🌞 the growth of submerged and marginal pond plants will be at its highest.

The growth 📈 of these pond plants is very useful as it extracts nitrate and phosphate nutrients from the pond water. If allowed to accumulate these nutrients would encourage excessive growth of unsightly algae.

Pond plants 🌿 can deplete limited trace nutrients such as iron and potassium.

Dosing the pond with Tetra PlantaMin will replenish these nutrients giving lush plant growth and deprive algae.

With the Tetra Pond Test 7in1, monitoring the seven most important water values in your garden pond is as easy as pie.

Determine the level of CO2 and nitrate in your water, the pH value, the KH and GH, as well as toxins like chlorine and nitrite.

Tetra makes it possible in three simple steps:

1. Dip a test strip into the water
2. Move it two to three times and tap off any excess water
3. Read off the most important information about the water values in only one minute.

Stop guessing, start testing – with Tetra Pond Test 7in1.

Plecos and dwarf catfish like Otos (Otocinclus) can bring a lot of benefits to a tank. Not only do they bring interest to the bottom and sides of a community freshwater tank, but they also help towards keeping algae at bay as part of a clean-up crew.

When selecting one for your aquarium, make sure you find out what size it’s going to grow to and whether your aquarium can accommodate it. Some can grow very large!

Otos like the one pictured here are a great choice for small tanks as they stay small and won’t outgrow your tank.

You should supplement their diet as algae in the tank is not sufficient nutrition for them on their own. It is vital to feed your plecos or otos sinking plant-rich food such as Tetra Pleco Veggie Wafers to ensure they have complete nutrition available to them.

Top tips for preventing your tank from getting as dirty in the first place.

🐠 Avoid overfeeding your fish as this will pollute the water.
🐠 Grow more plants in your tank as they compete with algae.
🐠 Remove any dead leaves on your plants before they have a chance to rot.
🐠 Don’t overuse your tank lighting, as this will encourage algae growth.
🐠 Build a clean-up crew, such as a few shrimp or assassin snails. Check that they won't be eaten by any fish in your tank before you buy.

👉 What are your top tips for keeping tanks clean?

Pond top tip 💡

It is important to prevent your pond from becoming overstocked with home-reared fish.

Cut out as much submerged vegetation as possible, as this is where many fish lay their eggs.

If allowed to persist in the pond, the mass of eggs can lead to pollution of the water.

Though most of the eggs will not survive, a few are likely to. These survivors will almost certainly be drably coloured and might interbreed with existing fish.

There are many guides online for rearing goldfish eggs and fry indoors if you want to have a try.

One Ocean,
One Climate,
One Future – Together.

🌊 Ocean dead zones have quadrupled since the 1950s.

These low oxygen levels lead to a reduction in fish growth, impaired fertility and migration to new habitats where they are more vulnerable 🐠

What can be done? Reduce carbon emissions and pollution.

Digestive Health is important for fish too!

📈 Most of our fish food contains prebiotics to stimulate growth and the metabolism of health-promoting bacteria in the intestinal tract, by acting as a preferred source of food for useful bacteria.

💧 This not only improves the digestion and health of your fish, but it also creates less waste and water pollution.

🌿💧 Did you know that you can reuse your old aquarium water to water your indoor and garden plants? It is rich in nitrates and phosphates which plants will love.

Not only is it an eco-friendly solution, but it also helps you save water and reduce your operating costs 💰

Tetra’s popular Pond Test 6in1 got an update! 🎉

🧪 From now on, you can additionally determine the level of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in your pond water.

But why did Tetra make this adjustment? A healthy level of carbon dioxide in your garden pond is required to generate good plant growth.

🌿 The plants, in turn, produce oxygen (O2) which is vital for your pond inhabitants. In interaction, these two values – CO2 and O2 – are necessary to maintain the biological balance.
